Isn't the habanero dangerous to eat?
Maybe if you're a pussy. But capsaicin was developed as an irritant so mammals would stay away from capsaicinoids. I guess evolution didn't think that modern humans would eat then just for that reason.
[release]The burning and painful sensations associated with capsaicin result from its chemical interaction with sensory neurons. Capsaicin, as a member of the vanilloid family, binds to a receptor called the vanilloid receptor subtype 1 (VR1).[42] First cloned in 1997, VR1 is an ion channel-type receptor. VR1, which can also be stimulated with heat and physical abrasion, permits cations to pass through the cell membrane and into the cell when activated. The resulting depolarization of the neuron stimulates it to signal the brain. By binding to the VR1 receptor, the capsaicin molecule produces the same sensation that excessive heat or abrasive damage would cause, explaining why the spiciness of capsaicin is described as a burning sensation.
The VR1 ion channel has subsequently been shown to be a member of the superfamily of TRP ion channels, and as such is now referred to as TRPV1. There is a number of different TRP ion channels that have been shown to be sensitive to different ranges of temperature and probably are responsible for our range of temperature sensation. Thus, capsaicin does not actually cause a chemical burn, or indeed any direct tissue damage at all, when chili peppers are the source of exposure. The inflammation caused by the burn or physical abrasion that the body believes it has undergone can potentially cause tissue damage in cases of extreme exposure, as is the case for many substances that trick the body into inflaming itself.
[/release]
Capsaicin increases heart rate, can effect breathing, and activate mucus membranes. So I guess if you have heart problems and or breathing problems you should stay away from the Bhut Jolokias. There have been people hospitalized by them (or at least people requesting to be hospitalized by them).
Bhut Jolokia - 1,000,000 scovilles.
Pepper Spray - 6,000,000 scovilles.
pfft. go eat a bhut jolokia and report back
Bring habaneros to lessen the effect of the jolokia.
Bring habaneros to lessen the effect of the jolokia.
Clever.
haha I see what you did there. You quoted my modest joke and said `clever` to impersonate a pretentious dick.
Do it bitch, habenero's ain't hot.

Do it, easy 10 bucks for a quick bit of food... Maybe have a glass of milk on stand by if your not good with hot food.
Where the hell are you guys getting your facts from? The habanero is a general term that applies to hundreds of different peppers. Some of them are EXTREMELY hot, enough to burn your skin just by touching them. Some habaneros are among the HOTTEST chili peppers in the world, i.e. scotch bonnet and the naga jolokia.
In other words, don't fucking do it or you'll experience incredibly bright, scorching, intense pain, pain that will make your vision black out and seconds feel like hours, more pain than you will have ever experienced in your entire life. You can lick the pepper and your asshole will be on fire for the next couple days or so, disregarding actually consuming the fucker.
Prepare yourself good friend.
Be sure to have lots of bread handy.
Or saltine crackers.

Not by a long shot. Generally when someone says they're going to eat a habanero, it means they're going to eat the common one.

I'll just leave this here...

Yeah, when I say "the moon is beautiful" outside people get confused how I can see what's happening around saturn.
An attempt to look like you're smart is not worth losing all your credibility.
I ate a habanero chilie whole once, a bird eye one. The word hot does not even come remotely close. It felt like my mouth was literally on fire.
I would eat a fucking piece of glass for $10

Doesn't pure cap physically hurt you?
Doesn't pure cap physically hurt you?
It could probably do some serious damage considering some people who eat bhut Jolokias feel as if they need to go to the emergency room.
Do it you woman.
Doesn't pure cap physically hurt you?
Capsaicin can cause serious damage to flesh even when dilute. It is an irritant that needs protective clothing, goggles, and respirators to be handled.
