Art is entertainment in the form of beauty "the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance."
Google Jenny Saville then justify your definition [editline]18th July 2011[/editline] Yi Chen - Bubbles Expression of ideas and emotion through visual media?
What would I use it for? Something that expresses itself through aesthetic arrangement. I also don't think the term is particularly useful other than colloquially--if you try to nail down a formal definition of "art" you get a bunch of jerkoffs who think everything that doesn't meet their arbitrary standards "isn't art" versus a bunch of jerkoffs who think that calling their video of them stomping a frog to death "art" confers a degree of respectability on it. I don't like either type of those jerkoffs and I don't think that debate even deserves to be dignified with consideration.
Yeah. Just because something is art doesn't mean it has innate worth.
An expression of what you feel, think, desire... Its saying something by non conventional means, such as talking.
Just like something being "natural" doesn't mean it's necessarily good.

Thus Jenny Saville feels that violence is of more than ordinary significance and produces artwork regarding that. Furthermore, it is actually technically brilliant and ignoring the subject you can see the skill displayed
I saw an image that sums up what I imagine art to be quite well a while back, lemme have a quick look... Here we go -

Writing on walls is done for attention and validation though, which is pretty much the same thing as critical acclaim (and the main reason for art for thousands of years).

It is by every person defining art for him or herself that a holistic definition can be given: A sort of collage of answers, rather than one true definition. That's why the topic is "What does art mean to you?", rather than "What does art mean?" More or less what I'm saying is I agree with you, TH.

A couple of good documentaries to watch would be F for Fake and Exit Through the Gift Shop.
The manifestation of your imagination.
Great art is simply creating something to get your point across, how realistic it is doesn't matter.
Someone pissing on a stage is definitely NOT art.
Someone pissing on a stage is definitely NOT art.
Art is opinion. In the opinion of the pissing person it is art, in yours it is not, and that doesn't mean it's not art. It's not really my cup of tea either.
Art let me dive into my subconscious and find out the sick fuck I really am I mean just look at this stuff
Art is anything that moves someone, whether it be the mona lisa or a city bus.
Art is whatever you want it to be and whatever you want to be art is art
i took a shit today
I never really got why people think art is so meaningful, same with music. Except for Highway Man. I always shed a manly tear.
I don't understand art at all.
Art is something that I like just a bit, but I've never been good at drawing, so I always go back to poetry.
Any type of idea or emotion being expressed in something other then just words. So books, paintings, movies and videogames are all art. Some people say porn can't be art but I disagree with that.
A drawing
Anything that can convey emotion is art to me. Take Firelake for example, it conveys feelings of sadness, therefor to me it is art. I don't consider art to be a complement. "This is art!" means absolutely jack shit.
mayhem is the best art
Original and creative work of any form.
