Memrise.com - This site is making me bilingual and expanding my vocabulary god dammit

Man, I speak six languages already, I dunno what to learn now.
Actually... fuck it I'm learning Kazahk.
I don't get how anyone is "learning" a new language. This won't teach you the basics or the grammar so it's nearly useless except for expanding your vocabulary and improving your memory.

But it's great for my English and I still love it

Learning other languages starts with words and sentences.
Stuff like "как дега?", which means How are you?
This is how I learned French and a bit of German. Then, you learn the Grammar with another service, like lessons on Wiktionary, or whatever that site was called.

You gotta start somewhere. If you can learn basic words and communication, you will have a lot easier understanding when someone else is talking the language. It will make the last bit of learning a hell of a lot easier.
Admittedly Rosetta Stone doesn't teach German grammar as good as it should do, but it did teach me how to use Ihr/Ihre/Ihren correctly.
Is the site down for anyone else? It hasn't timed out, it just keeps loading without refreshing any content :suicide:
Heh, searched Klingon on this for shits and gigs, its on there, but a very basic 30~ word course, still gonna do it just for fun :v: Also gonna use it for a bit of French practice, maybe screw around and learn a few words from other languages.
by the way this isn't really how language acquisition works.
you can definitely use this to practice and to expand vocabulary of languages that you already know somewhat, but you won't learn a new language just from doing this
I can pick up on the structure of any language in just a few minutes of listening to it, I just have a lot of trouble remembering what words mean what. This site is really helpful for people like me

It's exactly this for me.
I know the basic structure for German, French and Spanish, but I know fuck all vocab. So this really helps.

This isn't very helpful..
What happened to Duolingo?

DuoLingo?
this is exactly what I was thinking. DuoLingo was supposed to be a bit different from this, but I think I'll try this.
Duolingo never sent me an invite.
I started using it for Mandarin since I'm going back to China soon for college in Hong Kong.
They speak Cantonese in Hong Kong though
Damnit, You people make my meger english and french look bad
So I'm listening to that cute German voice telling me how to say all those interesting words.
Then on the next word this god damn low quality ear rape old woman voice says SCHWARZ with all her guts. I freak out.

You're on the basic program, aren't you?
She's on quite a few words, and I was using headphones. Needless to say, I had the same reaction :v:
This will be quite helpful for my French, although I already know a lot of the words so far (manger, boire, etc.)

This place is nice for grammar and some more vocab.

I was getting basic Swedish words, then this.
Also only one in ten seems to have audio.
Anyone else getting problems with the Next/Continue button?
Edit:
Oh my god this is fun! I'm learning Danish and wanted a more fun way to learn. This is fantastic, thank you!
Edit:
I've learnt 47 new words and I had a little greenhouse with them all sprouted but it so freaking hard to find it again. Navigation is so hard. Must be a bug that it doesn't add certain courses of the same language.

Yeah I'm doing Swedish too, is there any way to put audio up there for people to use? I would do that for the ones that don't have it
23 hours left to harvest, then it instantly went to "130 words ready to harvest"
After one day, 100+ words in the garden, 50 in the greenhouse waiting, certainly quicker than Rosetta Stone for vocab.
Forgot about this and missed harvest on 300 words. Too bad you have to wait until the next day to harvest again.

Yeah I just remembered mine today, all my plants were dead :(
I was actually pretty surprised at how much I managed to remember though.
Learning Swedish vocab at the moment, like 10 words a day.
I'm progressing.
[editline]15th March 2012[/editline]
I think I should do more of this a day :v:
Been using this for a while, doing the Russian 1000 vocab course, it's great if you know a bit about grammar already.
Im finding the Knowledge section more fun, i am currently learning reptiles, dinosaurs and cheeses
This site is pretty cool because all the vocab we learned in 3 years of spanish at school was "here is my driver's liscence" and "pass the tacos" but not anything useful. (that's why I quit spanish.)
