It's not just being a nerd but it's blurry in telling whether its nerdiness or what. But I don't think I have this. The conclusion I came to was just being an introvert. But then, there are all sorts of levels of this stuff, I often have trouble understanding people (I hear them, but I don't understand what they've said until I think it through in my head) and I'm obsessively paranoid at times. But for a condition like ASD's there's always going to be middleground. Being autistic just means you have a high level of autism I would think.
If you do have Asperger's, your life isn't gonna be ruined by it. [editline]04:42PM[/editline] Give me some credit here my brother is autistic.
I took the test, got an 8.
Aspergers is just an imaginary disease, just like ADD.
I don't mean to be a dick or anything but symptoms of aspergers is also a sign of a weak social life, as cliche as it sounds just get off your computer time to time and go out with friends. Sure though, go for the test, your call. Sorry if that advice sounded offensive
Your Avatar is creeping the fuck out of me.
If you do have Asperger's, your life isn't gonna be ruined by it.
Most people don't even remember they have it half the time.
i suffer from asparagus syndrome.
I think that its bullshit. Man they have made up mental illnesses for things that normal teenagers do anyway. Every teenager breaks rules and defies authority but since I'm a ward of the state they made up a cute little thing called "Conduct disorder" Which I have. I just don't like to follow rules but since the state has their eye on me it's their job to find something wrong and fix it. Even if there is nothing wrong. [editline]02:36AM[/editline] Yes they even have cute little diagnosis's for adults too.
Hey guys. Asperger's is a real syndrome. With real symptoms. It's not made up.
Hey guys. Asperger's is a real syndrome. With real symptoms. It's not made up.
Listen to this man. He has the title Dr in his name. Therefore he knows all.
I got nine on the test. Hell yeah.
Aspergers is just an imaginary disease, just like ADD.
Just like I've said before, if you ever met a kid who really has ADD then there is no way you would be saying that.
I scored 7, so I am in clear waters? I have literal irl aspergers. I seem p. normal myself, apart that I'm gay, I stutter my words occasionally and I'm an MMO player. Been in various special ed classes since 5th grade. I'm now a senior and am soon going to graduate high school (US). I have been in classes with somewhere near 100+ other teenagers with aspergers and I'm highly certain most -if not all- had never had a girlfriend/boyfriend or anything related to a relationship apart from animated cartoons from japan, or close family members. I don't even take standard autism medication anymore. Just large dosages of anti-depressants and others for my ADD-like symptoms. [editline]07:53AM[/editline] btw, all the stereotypes are true.

Oh, and it actually is a real disorder. Not really a disease much, it's a lingual and sensory disorder that impairs our ability to be social (which co-related to dozens of symptoms which cannot be found in any other existing disorder). It also impairs our ability to do every-day tasks unless forced or pushed to attempt struggling things. extreme clumsiness relates to slowed brain activity gained at birth. I don't feel like digging up the links now. but MRI scans display many many qualities in the brain which make us different. anyways... It's awkward how different everyone is with it, yet we all get along so well. People with aspergers usually are addicted or 'attached' to things some typical people would find strange or different. Such as playing video game genres you never heard of, specific sections of space flight, or warhammer 40k. I sometimes force myself to be social among new people because it makes me feel good afterwards, I try to dress normal and hip, and I keep myself reasonably health: These are all qualities I see most of us lacking. I guess I like being different among the already different people.
READ THE DATE - Currently I'm not bothered with getting diagnosed or anything, I don't really care if I have it or not anymore. Diagnosis I've come to is that I'm just intraverted. I don't reckon I have anything like this because I'm fairly sure I know how to function and have conversation fully. A lot of the labelled symptoms and the test can't really diagnose fully I think and I'm just not very social. I don't think its a labelled condition doing this, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extraversion_and_introversion#Introversion Hello facepunch. My name is James and I'm doing computer science at Portsmouth university. What started this inquiring thought that I may be slightly autistic is the crop up of a new group coursework we have to do in one of the units. The specification says we have to work in groups of 3-5 and I strongly want to do it by myself, and I really do mean strongly. My reasons for this is that I could get it done by myself in maybe 3 hours without having to mess around with anybody elses opinions or thoughts and that my mark would be representative of MY skill, this is a degree in computer science, not fucking team work, I was raging when I got back to my room after my lecturer said I can't do it by myself so much that I was able to get a new record on my powerball... anyway, I digress. I googled the whole autism thing since I know it's something to do with communication, I found something called an Autism Spectrum Quotient and decided to do the test Here. My result was 35. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_Spectrum_Quotient#Use_as_a_diagnostic_tool in the wiki article to get an idea of what this means. So of course, based on that I thought that I should investigate further and so I did. I looked at This Article on aspergers syndrome. Some things I noticed from the wikipedia article which apply to me. - atypical use of language - limited empathy with their peers - poor communication skills - obsessive or repetitive routines - difficulties with social adjustment - difficulties with independent living My post may seem well structured but it is because I have read over it and made sure that it makes sense, I often say strangely structured things in conversation, as for empathy with peers, I often understand what they are feeling but I don't feel that they understand what I am feeling. I feel so separated from everyone to the extent that I have seriously wondered how people like the same movies and video games as me. I have been at university since the end of september now. I haven't been out socially once. As for the whole obsessive thing, I spend 8+ hours on my computer a day and I do a lot of programming, I know a very large amount about computers, all self taught. As well as this I can solve a rubiks cube, do some pen spinning stuff and for no particular reason decided to learn swedish several months ago, which I am doing fairly well with. I love to self learn, the only reason I'm here is to get a degree which is essential for any good job these days in the UK. I share a kitchen with 7 others and I haven't had a conversation with any of them longer than 5 sentences despite living here since the end of september. I feel like an alien here and I want to go home. I hate the whole make every meal wash everything up sit in my room (maybe a tad lazy), sleep, go to class etc and I don't want to go out socially. I'm 19 years old facepunch, please don't treat me like a child, I want help and I want to know what to do, I don't want to keep wondering whether I'm autistic or just plain shit at socialising. Thanks and sorry for the wall of text, the gist of it is that I fit criteria for aspergers, I got an ASQ result which confirms it and I want to know what to do. Thanks again.
I like how the name sounds like Assburgers Syndrome. I feel bad for you dude...good luck with that.
Enjoy.
They don't taste so nice but thanks
14 overall. I was diagnosed with Aspergers when I was about five years old, maybe I've mostly grown out of it now.
I took the test and got a 4. I guess i'm extremely un-autistic.
READ THE DATE - Currently I'm not bothered with getting diagnosed or anything, I don't really care if I have it or not anymore.
Do it anyways, I get paid a fuckton by having asperger on my CV.
I really can't remember what the place was, however there was several people there who specialize in mental health problems. I went there twice for about 2 hours each time, at the end I was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome. There is however no real treatment for it, you just got to live with it as best as you can.
I feel no empathy towards you. Oh fuck now I have Aspergers! :downs:
I've got a friend with Aspergers syndrome. I don't think he looks at himself as anti-social and is not sad about it. If you have to get checked you probably don't have it.
Agree: 6,9,12,18,19,43: 1 point Disagree: 29,30,49: 1 point Score: 9 Derp.
asberger's syndrome is real but it is not an excuse and geetting tested will do nothing but affirm you are a faggot and give you an excuse to be one but i'd say half of the "aspies" on the internet are just socially awkward and are trying to find a reason to be
hey i posted this in the gmf it's my opinion read it

I was proffesionally diagnosed and i score a 4 so yeah these tests sure are accurate.
