I am serious about getting tested for Aspergers syndrome

ADD is real, I just think a lot of people are falsely diagnosed with ADD as in "Well we can't find a problem, but a lot points towards ADD, so it may be that." And they just assume it is ADD and/or just want to make money selling you pills you don't need.
Diagnosis I've come to is that I'm just intraverted. I don't reckon I have anything like this because I'm fairly sure I know how to function and have conversation fully. A lot of the labelled symptoms and the test can't really diagnose fully I think and I'm just not very social. I don't think its a labelled condition doing this, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extraversion_and_introversion#Introversion
Hello facepunch.
My name is James and I'm doing computer science at Portsmouth university.
What started this inquiring thought that I may be slightly autistic is the crop up of a new group coursework we have to do in one of the units. The specification says we have to work in groups of 3-5 and I strongly want to do it by myself, and I really do mean strongly. My reasons for this is that I could get it done by myself in maybe 3 hours without having to mess around with anybody elses opinions or thoughts and that my mark would be representative of MY skill, this is a degree in computer science, not fucking team work, I was raging when I got back to my room after my lecturer said I can't do it by myself so much that I was able to get a new record on my powerball... anyway, I digress.
I googled the whole autism thing since I know it's something to do with communication, I found something called an Autism Spectrum Quotient and decided to do the test Here.
My result was 35.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_Spectrum_Quotient#Use_as_a_diagnostic_tool in the wiki article to get an idea of what this means.
So of course, based on that I thought that I should investigate further and so I did.
I looked at This Article on aspergers syndrome.
Some things I noticed from the wikipedia article which apply to me.
- atypical use of language
- limited empathy with their peers
- poor communication skills
- obsessive or repetitive routines
- difficulties with social adjustment
- difficulties with independent living
My post may seem well structured but it is because I have read over it and made sure that it makes sense, I often say strangely structured things in conversation, as for empathy with peers, I often understand what they are feeling but I don't feel that they understand what I am feeling. I feel so separated from everyone to the extent that I have seriously wondered how people like the same movies and video games as me.
I have been at university since the end of september now.
I haven't been out socially once.
As for the whole obsessive thing, I spend 8+ hours on my computer a day and I do a lot of programming, I know a very large amount about computers, all self taught. As well as this I can solve a rubiks cube, do some pen spinning stuff and for no particular reason decided to learn swedish several months ago, which I am doing fairly well with. I love to self learn, the only reason I'm here is to get a degree which is essential for any good job these days in the UK.
I share a kitchen with 7 others and I haven't had a conversation with any of them longer than 5 sentences despite living here since the end of september.
I feel like an alien here and I want to go home. I hate the whole make every meal wash everything up sit in my room (maybe a tad lazy), sleep, go to class etc and I don't want to go out socially.
I'm 19 years old facepunch, please don't treat me like a child, I want help and I want to know what to do, I don't want to keep wondering whether I'm autistic or just plain shit at socialising.
Thanks and sorry for the wall of text, the gist of it is that I fit criteria for aspergers, I got an ASQ result which confirms it and I want to know what to do. Thanks again.
I too have Aspergers Syndrome... Goodluck! =P
Okay, this is annoying me. Aspergus and autism are NOT the same things. Go to a doctor. Also, they do have many drugs and medications for these conditions, do your research before you go claiming shit.

Asperger syndrome is an autism spectrum disorder
As you so aptly put it, do your research before you go claiming shit.
Aspergers is a form of autism.
The test gives you an autism spectrum quotient, and aspergers is an austism spectrum disorder, so the test is eligible for a tool in making early diagnosis decisions for aspergers.
Oh, and its aspergers nor aspergus.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome#Medications
No medications directly treat the core symptoms of AS
Medications for aspergers only hit other parts of your personality which can effect the way you interact, so really, there are no medications for aspergers.
I have Asperger's Syndrome, and I'm pretty lucky because I am super-high functioning. When it comes to being social, I actually don't do too bad.
does insomnia count?
does insomnia count?
No, what the fuck?
I think I might have a cold.
does tonsilitis count?
I got a 33. Apparently I was diagnosed with AS when I was a little kid but I'm not sure if I have it now. I think I'm just lazy when it comes to socializing, I'd rather sit here and browse the net than go out.

I used to be really awkward and didn't want to socialize with anybody, but now I have more friends than ever.
Nah it's just called anti-social.
Aspergers is made up bullshit in my opinion for most people
Well, you are sincerely wrong. First, aspergers is not only bad social life, it is an entirely different way that your brain works. That proclaiming that aspgerers is bullshit would be classified as idiotic. You have no fucking idea on how much people with Aspergers struggle through their daily life and you sir, are an asshole.
Kasp, he isn't saying it is bullshit. He is saying that a lot of people claim assburgers and dont have it and use it as an excuse.
Lol i am very unsocial.
I made the test
i got 12 as score.
Gz

Oh, yes I have always relied on wikipedia for the best of my information. I happen to be closely involved with someone who has both the disorders, when doctors diagnose they can be seperate. And he sees both a psychiatrist AND take several forms of medication intended for people with aspergus and autism. So please, when trying to prove a point find a better resource than wikipedia. Thanks.
I can put one think simple for you all, Autism is a neurological disorder which varies from high to low brain activity (or stupid to smart if you want to :downs:). And Aspergers is on the high side of Autism which means that you might be very good at something or very smart. And on another note, many people with Autism don't think and do things like a "normal" person do.
I has assburgers syndrome. Oh shit here comes another one...
[sp]It's from The Retarded Cop "Assburgers"[/sp]
I do actually have Asperger's. It kind of explains why I use smileys like this :smug::hf::q::fh: often. And some times I feel like slapping someone for fun. I never do it though, thank fuck.
Then when you're diagnosed, what happens? You walk into a job interview and say "oh by the way i'm disabled with asbergers syndrome"

that's not having assbergers thats being normal
except for the smileys but that's because you're a dumbass not autistic
Well, if you do have Asperger's it really doesn't matter much as long as you are aware of yourself. The main thing is that a lot of aspies act really weird a lot, like flailing around, rocking, or other things like that, and they don't realize it. Some of them have horrible social skills, but for some of them, they can be fixed. Once they realize how weird they really are acting from other people's perspective, they can mostly fix whatever problems they have.
I actually have Asperger's myself, and acted REALLY fucking weird for the first 10 or so years of my life, and I literally had maybe, 3 friends max, and I was the laughingstock of all my classes. I was always extremely depressed and I had a lot of emotions bottled up (well, I was abused and my brother tried comitting suicide so that didn't really help at all) so I just expressed it through, well, being really weird and nearly everybody thought I was annoying. At some point when I was 10 or 11 though, I realized why no one liked me, and I imagined how it looked from their perspective. After that, over the course of maybe a year, I started gradually forcing myself to improve out of necessity to the point where I'm almost normal. Whenever I tell some of my close friends that I have it, they always say "You don't even act/look special ed." I still do have some small things that are weird, like my fear of mirrors (it doesn't really even make much sense to me, I'm not even bad looking, but it literally ruins my entire day if I catch myself in a mirror or other reflective surface), my extremely limited diet (bread products mostly; I eat zero vegetables), and some of the time I just act awkward around specific people for no logical reason. I do consider myself above average intelligence in a few ways that I never see in other people. (My view on technology for one. I don't really ever talk about any of it though to anyone, because most people just dismiss anything different as stupid.)
So in short, as long as aspies are aware of themselves, they should be able to fix whatever problems they have, socially speaking. Some of the time of course, there is absolutely nothing they can do, but generally speaking, you can improve if you try. So even if you have it, don't worry too much. If I can improve, I think anyone should be able to.
I know a kid with a bad case of aspergers, and it's very obvious.
There seems to be a lot of "If you think you have it you have it" situations of aspergers these days :/
I am medically diagnosed with Aspergers. I'd recommend testing.
Asperger's is a "get out of jail free" syndrome, like ADHD. It is just an excuse for weird antisocial kids, claiming they have asperger's so they don't have to be responsible for why they're afraid to talk to girls. Since Asperger's is treated symptomatically, it is almost impossible to tell whether you do have the syndrome or not. People like Ulillillia (google him) have Asperger's, not you.
I have Asperger's, and I can assure you that being afraid to talk to girls is the least of my worries.
I know at least 10 people with assburgers syndrome. They are all rather antisocial, and they're always referring to their assburgers like their assburgers made them the ruler of the world. They believe everyone around them to be dumb and slow, and they generally excell in terms of education and intelligence, but fail socially. so yes, i think you have assburgers
Asperger Syndrome is a very misunderstood disease. It may also suffer depression as a result of extreme anxiety or lonelines. I think they may give rise to the larger problem of how to manage Aspergers syndrome behavior. Try to consulting them before concluding yourself.

I have AS (diagnosed in 2003) and I almost only see it as a good thing.
They say AS people more often gets into universities, jolly good, I was planning to become a scientist anyhow.
I have aspergers.
I have a fascination with history (And as a result i have collected any history book i could get my hands on)
I rarely communicate outside of the internet because whenever i am out and about people think i'm retarded or something.
On the internet i have met people who i talk to (oftenish), these include several americans, a Swedish chap and an eccentric Japanese person.
The only toys i have ever played with are knex and lego. With them i tend to build mechanical things such as guns or clocks or mechanical hands.
analysis has been my solution for social awkwardness/anxiety. i just analyze the shit out of my fears, the way I handle social situations, the way other people act, the way other people might view me, etc. the more you think about stuff, the more it makes sense. I also try to remember that there's nothing at stake and it's okay to make a dumbass out of yourself, because nobody can do shit about it
another thing that's helped me a lot is recording my voice and listening to it. I've had a huge fear of my own voice for a long time (sounds retarded, it is). understanding my own manner of speech is a huge help. i'm thinking about doing video-tutorials to teach people stuff about music and/or computers - I think it's a really good idea for anyone, because if you think you sound dumb, you can just delete it and start over
I scored 11 and I'm terribly shy. wat?

I might start doing this as well. I've been having a lot of trouble making any sort of tutorial because of my fear of narration.
I have apprently got 'assburgers syndrome' but i think i'm just a shy person I know someone that has aspergers syndrome he acts NOTHING like me, he always talks about one thing, always has the same apperance and on a completely unrelated note cannot run (fast) at all dispite not being fat.
Here is test scores.
Agree: 4,12,23,26,41,46: 1 point
Disagree: 8,10,15,30,48,49: 1 point
Score: 12
I got a 18
I have it too.
No shame.

more people get diagnosed with ADHD more than ADD though. that seems strange
maybe is all related to that computer study where the human mind is being conditioned to act like a computer to gather one piece of info at a time then leave it... seems strange but it might be true.
Friend of mine has assburgers. They taste like shit
