Saw this play a year ago and it was amazing. I love everything about it.
Just back from seeing Skyfall, saw the trailer for this. Looks pretty good, although maybe I'm just biased from my irrational love of Anne Hathaway.
this should be added into the OP it's the full 10th anniversary concert [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMmF9el0S7k[/media]
One of my favorite movies. Saw it at school once, hoping to one day see the whole movie.

I'm so fucking excited, this is probably the best musical out there and honestly the cast for the movie seems really good as well. I kinda doubted Sasha Baron Cohen as Thenardier but he did a great job in Sweeney Todd so I think he'll do fine. [editline]30th November 2012[/editline] Also I'm not sure how I feel about Anne Hathaway as Fantine, I mean she's a good actor just not exactly who I pictured for her.
I just got cast as Thenardier in my school's production of Les Mis, so I'm excited to see what Baron Cohen can do with the role!

the soundtrack is out now, it's just selected songs though. i'm gonna wait to see the film first
holy fuck that was a good movie
And reviews, [url]http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/les_miserables_2012/[/url]
Jackman wasn't that good, and several key songs like "One day More" were extremely sloppily edited together. 8/10 movie. [editline]25th December 2012[/editline] A proper Valjean is this guy from the 10th anniversary cast, he plays the Bishop in the movie. [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL-FyKkdxw4[/media] Jackman plays a really confused guy for the whole movie. [editline]25th December 2012[/editline] This is how One Day More should sound. Instead, in the movie the editing for it is just soooooo bad. The songs get cut off in areas with people singing between cuts, it's terrible. Other than that, most of the songs weren't that bad. [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IddP8AAIGTQ[/media] [editline]25th December 2012[/editline] I hope the dvd or bluray releases fixes the editing. I don't know what it was about this movie, but they just edited it together really poorly.
I don't know how I feel about Baron Cohen's take on the character. I've only heard "Master of the House" and have not seen the movie, but I simply found him flat.
That was pretty incredible to watch. My mom and I cried when we saw it.
Saw it this morning, theater was still packed. When I Dreamed A Dream started the theater was dead silent Also Jackman's performance could have been better
My local paper film critic gave it 1 star
[QUOTE=Sir Drone;38986979]My local paper film critic gave it 1 star[/QUOTE] Oh fuck him. It's not that bad. It's a mediocre executed film, but the problem lies in some bad casting decisions and the fact that the editing could have used another month. One day more is fucking terrible and Jackman shouldn't have been cast since his voice is nowhere near what the character should have had, but really, on a grading scale, it would get a C+ or a B-. It's not a bad film ,it just really needed more polishing. [editline]27th December 2012[/editline] Also, Marius in this was fine, he just couldn't hit that many high notes. [editline]27th December 2012[/editline] Like really, most of the issues with the film are simple cast and editing problems, the pieces are all there and it's decent. They just didnt put them together that well. [editline]27th December 2012[/editline] [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuitI-aoC6I[/media] Seriously, I hate their version of One day More. It doesn't fucking flow at all.
Apparently the first cut was 4 hours long, then they chopped it down to 2h45m, then down to 2h30m. Might have been why the editing is bad (haven't seen it myself but I've read a lot of complaints about this).
It's not just that. The sound is unbalanced all over the place. The opening act should have been much louder and really, it could have been better if there was a set orchestral pace. the free flowing orchestra is good for singular pieces, but as with One day more and other multi set pieces, it just suffers from it. [editline]27th December 2012[/editline] I just really really don't like how Jackman played Valjean as a really confused guy whose never really confident except at the start of the movie. [editline]27th December 2012[/editline] And Who am I was fantastic in the movie. I just really hate how Jackman is so fucking hit and miss in this movie.
I'm going to see the new movie tomorrow.
Saw it with a ladyfriend, seemed not too bad but not amazing. I never read the book or saw any of the other adaptations but it had a big feeling of stuff being left out. [editline]28th December 2012[/editline] Fuuuuck, double post.
I really liked it. One thing that you really have to get used to with musicals is that different productions will always tell the story a bit differently. I've seen Les Mis four times, including this movie, all with different actors etc, and they were all different. None were better, just different. Although the editing was kinda janky.
The lighting was nice except in the daytime white elephant scenes, where it was overbright
I feel like there were [i]way[/i] too many camera cuts in the beginning of the movie and were distracting, but it got better after At the End of the Day. Other than that I thought it was good, except for Hugh Jackman :v:
Just saw it. I liked it even though it dragged on a bit. Also, that girl who played the girl who liked the guy cosette liked? Jesus, she's pretty.
[media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBU1PCIqO-8[/media] my favorite part of the movie. sacha baron cohen did a good job imo.

Samantha Barks I'm assuming.
-snip-
having seen the theater production, a lot of the songs seemed soulless in comparison. especially Master of the House holy fuck
