when religion stops causing wars and senseless death and destructionI'll stop bashing I also limit my bashing to the internet. In real life I have friends who are Jewish, Christian Muslim, and Buddhist.
I only have semi-christian friends. And even those aren't THAT christian.
yes ok lets just ignore the icky parts. what the fuck kind of logic is that.
Once again, Christians don't have to follow the Old Testament law. Just saying.
I like how the OP has a hammer and sickle avatar. :irony:
When religious people stop creating wars and protesting anything they think is anti christian and take responsibility for all the deaths their religion has caused then I may change my mind. Oh and also admit that their book is only scraps of all the writings that were destroyed when the library of Alexandretta was destroyed. Meaning they aren't following the entire bible (not like they don't do it anyway)
I'm a Christian myself, and I pretty much hate anyone who forces their beliefs on anyone, or fights for it's cause or whatever. I hate militant theists, like Westboro Church, just as much as I hate militant atheists, like Richard Dawkins. I believe that you are not a better person for believing in a god, or not believing in a god, or believing in the FSM, or whatever. And if you think you are just because you believe in X or Y, you're pretty much trash in my eyes. Religion isn't the problem. Militant religion is the problem.
Once again, Christians don't have to follow the Old Testament law. Just saying.
Ehhhhhhhhhh Matthew 5:18-19: Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or tittle shall nowise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. Luke 16:17: It is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. Luke 5:17 - Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. Genesis 17:19: And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him. Exodus 12:14, 12:17, 12:24: And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever. ... And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever. ... And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever. Leviticus 23:14,21,31: It shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations. Deuteronomy 7:9: Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations. Deuteronomy 11:1: Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, always. 1 Chronicles 16:15: Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations ... an everlasting covenant. Psalm 119:151-2: Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth. Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever. Psalm 119:160: Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.
What? Shut up.
Uh.. he said Christians don't have to follow the law but they do.. therefore they can't ignore certain passages they don't like. I'm not a Christian.
Hnnng must. Denounce. Scripture. Without reading.
Look, I don't care if you believe in a giant floating man with a white beard that lives in sky city. I don't like the institutions of religions. Churches and priests. They always seem to fuck everything up. I just don't believe in a higher power.
I used to be a pretty solid christian. Then I started to doubt my beliefs (I think the internet had a lot to do with this) and eventually I pretty much stopped believing in God. So I became an atheist, but one who defended religion a whole lot. Then I stopped bothering defending religion because it's really kinda hard sometimes. I don't ever attack "normal" christians for their faith (one of my best IRL friends is a christian, oddly he's the only one among his friends), but if someone says something online that I disagree with then I will make my point of view known. I've never really argued against a christian about belief in real life (I live in the UK, we have less of them here.) I asked my mum about this the other day, and surprisingly she revealed that she didn't have faith in God either any more - yet she still believes that abortion is wrong. It's strange how many vestigial beliefs you can keep carrying after you lose your faith. I would never argue with her about it either.
Hail Satan
Freedom of speech means sometimes the asshole(s) win. Don't like it? Too fucking bad.
im sorry i hurt your feelings op :(
The First Amendment protects a lot of things: 1) It protects your right of religion 2) It also protects my right from religion 3) Most importantly, it protects my right to criticize religion If you have an issue with criticism, I suggest you try out Sharia theocracies. They also believe very strongly against the concept of criticizing religion.
"dear world if i want to believe a wizard created me to watch me jerk off and masturbate and shit all the time and then to later judge me based on how much i did DON'T CALL IT STUPID BECAUSE IT IS WHAT I BELIEVE AND IT DOESN'T ~HAVE~ TO BE TRUE OR FACTUAL!!"
ITT Angsty teens attempt logic, and fail.
I could have been born in any time period anywhere in the world and could have had parents that brainwashed me and indoctrinated me into any other religion, even the thousands of dead ones, but THIS ONE IS THE TRUTH DO NOT TELL ME OTHERWISE HOW COULD IT NOT BE I FEEL SO SPECIAL WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT [editline]6th November 2010[/editline]
ITT Angsty teens attempt logic, and fail.
itt hypocrisy
My favorite thing is the atheists who bash christianity nonstop but as soon as someone says anything bad about islam they jump into politically correct mode and start labeling everyone as islamophobes and racist against little brown people. Also the atheists who claim that christians are forcing their beliefs on them when 90% of the time its the other way around, with atheists trying to force their nonbelief onto other people.
Coming to facepunch asking for religious tolerance is like going to the middle of a lion cage and asking the lion not to eat you. It's all going to go wrong.
when religion stops causing wars and senseless death and destructionI'll stop bashing
When humanity stops trying to blame all it's problems on religion, I'll renounce misanthropy. Honestly, I'm pretty sure the people that caused those things would've done it whether or not they were religious, religion just happened to be there to use as justification. It's like when Jack Thompson was going around bashing video games for causing school shootings. School shootings happen with or without video games, and getting rid of video games, something many people can enjoy without going batshit insane, would not end them.
Misanthropy is awesome, 1strandomman :) keep that shit up - we should start a misanthropy custom forum.
I agree. Believe what you want, but don't act like you are supreme to all others because of your beliefs. Not sure you should go to the internet to ask for tolerance though.
No matter how many times everyone says that, some Christians will still act like they are the greatest existences ever.
IMO vocal atheists who go out of their way to bash anything religious related are just as bad as vocal religious people.
Those ain't atheist, they are anti-theists
Theism means you have faith in a supernatural being that you can't prove exists. This is irrational, flawed thinking and discards logic. That's why I bash theism. Because it makes otherwise intelligent people crippled in reasoning.
And everyday these theist motherfuckers make life more difficult for the education system by trying to replace relevant modern information with a christian way of life. ITT: 'GOD EXISTS!!1 FUCK SCIENCE, IT AIN'T PROVE SHIT!!! FUCKING LIZARD MEN KIDNAPPED MY FAMLY!!11' It's like a really bad disney movie.
There is no fucking need to bash religions.
Ever heard about The Catholic Church?
holy fuck do you understand what logic is and isnt. logic is a science. the belief in god is unfalsifiable. this makes it unscientific, and therefore illogical. any questions?
By that logic, not believing in God is illogical.
By that logic, not believing in God is illogical.
no because believing in things without proof is illogical
no because believing in things without proof is illogical
I have proof.
