These are just ideas I am putting on the table of philosophy. As far as proving or disproving anything, you really can't. And, Kybalt, not guy, my sweetyheart ily
Which doesn't mean it's right. It's like believing in Rossel's teapot (I think it was that one)
I don't care that you believe in unicorns or whatever, but the problem is that you believe you're right even though you know you're illogical. This is extremely dangerous when it comes to logical reasoning and rationality. This isn't about you being right/wrong about a god, it's about how you've broken your brain.
I may be irrational. But in my mind I am not wrong. You are.
I don't let God interfere with my thinking and reasoning. I don't let my religion interfere with my personal thoughts.
I don't let God interfere with my thinking and reasoning. I don't let my religion interfere with my personal thoughts.
i hold an belief that i accept as being illogical/irrational. however i do not let it interfere with my logical reasoning and thinking.
I love how you say religion and faith in general aren't totally illogical and go against all the good, logic, reason an adaptable and changeable set of beliefs are for(atheism/agnosticism). Religion is illogical, but in no way asking for bashing. Shouting your biased opinions about it and denying common sense over it, like you are is begging for bashing.
When did I ever say I am religious? Because I am not. I just get sick of people who try to bash people due to their religious beliefs, come on, their beliefs have no effect on you.
I don't let God interfere with my thinking and reasoning. I don't let my religion interfere with my personal thoughts.
Then why did you create this thread even though there's hundreds of them, all going this exact same fate? This isn't the goddamn scene in Triangle where the stabbed girl crawls into a pile of her own corpses.
I can never tell theists and trolls apart in these kinds of threads.
When did I ever say I am religious? Because I am not. I just get sick of people who try to bash people due to their religious beliefs, come on, their beliefs have no effect on you.
they do when religious people vote for religious candidates into office that press on their religious agenda or make decisions that are affected by religion. how many atheists hold a high public office in the USA? or anywhere really for that matter?
I don't let God interfere with my thinking and reasoning. I don't let my religion interfere with my personal thoughts.
What's your stance on evolution? Homosexuality? Secularity?
I don't let God interfere with my thinking and reasoning. I don't let my religion interfere with my personal thoughts.
You don't let God? He's God, he can do whatever he want, yo.
When did I ever say I am religious? Because I am not. I just get sick of people who try to bash people due to their religious beliefs, come on, their beliefs have no effect on you.
The Pope telling Africa not to use condoms because they are a slight against god. Mass organized religions factioning off in to radical extremist groups and killing innocent people. How easily abused and manipulated religious power can be. These are a few of the ways people's beliefs have affected me. I'm not saying abolish all religion, or kill the believers or anything, I'm saying all and all, religion has done much more harm to the world than it ever did good.
It doesn't necessarily make it logical to refuse to believe in either. I think that something had to create the matter in the universe, give it the energy it has. My logical answer to that is a supreme being of sorts.
Why do you need to know the answers to those questions? Why can't you simply accept that you are ignorant, or discover the truth? Why fill in the gaps with fictional nonsense?
Because I am sick and tired of seeing ever mention of God get flamed to a pile of ash by atheists who had no reason to do it.
I'm sure your deity can defend himself against Facepunch Atheists.
Because I am sick and tired of seeing ever mention of God get flamed to a pile of ash by atheists who had no reason to do it.
my reason is that it scares me that people who have power over me believe in something that is illogical, therefore i worry that their choices may be corrupted by this? is this really such a jump? [editline]6th November 2010[/editline]
What's your stance on evolution? Homosexuality? Secularity?
oh shit here we go
I'm sure your deity can defend himself against Facepunch Atheists.
I'm sure he can. But that's not what I meant, it bugs me to see people interjecting and trying to manifest there beliefs into other peoples lives. And my stance on evolution, I believe in evolution more than Adam & Eve that's for damn sure. Homosexuality: Stay away from me and I'll let you do what you please. Secularity has no place in government.
they do when religious people vote for religious candidates into office that press on their religious agenda or make decisions that are affected by religion. how many atheists hold a high public office in the USA? or anywhere really for that matter?
Oh, sure. Because some idiots have religious beliefs, that must mean that all people who have religious beliefs must also vote for people just for religious reasons. They must all be told how wrong they are by me because I dislike their choice in candidates. :downs: You shouldn't be bashing their religious beliefs, rather, you should be bashing them for what they are doing with them. You are assuming that all religious people are exactly the same and all act in ways that interfere with your life, what they are doing isn't because that is what the religion says, they are doing it because they are idiots.
The Pope telling Africa not to use condoms because they are a slight against god. Get your generalisations out of here.
Please tell us your definition of hypocrisy.
Extremism either way is a terrible thing: Evangelistic Fundies - We all know how that ends up. Strongly-opinionated Atheists - Whether you realize it or not, trying to "prove those disillusioned bible-thumpers wrong" is actually the same as forcing your own (non)beliefs on them. By trying to make them realize that "there is nothing to believe in," you're effectively attempting to convert them to your own ways.
Jsut get the fuck out of here, you are being a prick.
Dougz, he is right in his own beliefs. I could give hoot in hell less over anyone else opinion posted. And that doesn't make me right or wrong. If someone tells you something that you don't like, you can tell that person to jump off a cliff. It's your belief. You don't have to stand by and listen, nobody is forcing you to think about this, or believe in that. Me personally, I'm a Lutheran. I tend to ignore many of the religious bashing threads. I have no right to question that. What makes a person happy is something I have no right to interfere with. I won't bring it up in conversation, nor will I do anything to hint at converting them. It's what they believe. When it comes to bashing, I sympathize with OP. I will not convert you, I will not even bring up my religious views in a conversation, and I will not make a thread about why Atheism is a first class ticket to hell. But as a trade off, as a sign of mutual respect, I ask all FacePuncher's that do not believe in God or religion as a whole to stop going out of there way to prove to other believers how wrong there beliefs are.
Secularity has no place in government.
You're against separation of church and state?
what the flying fuck
I think I messed up my definition of secularity, give me one second.
Oh, sure. Because some idiots have religious beliefs, that must mean that all people who have religious beliefs must also vote for people just for religious reasons. Why bother arguing about religion on Facepunch? No-one's really going to change their mind. E:
they do when religious people vote for religious candidates into office that press on their religious agenda or make decisions that are affected by religion. how many atheists hold a high public office in the USA? or anywhere really for that matter?
Why does it matter how many atheists hold an office? You'd assume their views would be the same (by default) as any candidate who's views/policies /aren't/ influenced by religion.
Oh, sure. Because some idiots have religious beliefs, that must mean that all people who have religious beliefs must also vote for people just for religious reasons. Don't come off all smug and smart after all I did was prove you wrong in how others religious beliefs actually affect my life. I gave a couple examples and all you did was try to make me out to be demonizing religion. Stop arguing, you're bad at it.
Got it, alright, I am for the separation of church and state. Religion has no place in politics is what I meant, my bad folks.
Theism means you have faith in a supernatural being that you can't prove exists. This is irrational, flawed thinking and discards logic. That's why I bash theism. Because it makes otherwise intelligent people crippled in reasoning.
Doug, you're as thick as an osmium planet, you believe that it's illogical, and due to it's illogicality, it is unfalsifiable, which is illogical in itself. Your stupid and 'white knight' approach to the, 'U CAN PROVE IT RONG BUT I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE ALLAH AKBAR' argument is utterly mentally deficient. IF YOU KNOW ITS WRONG, AND ILLOGICAL, THEN IT IS IN FACT, WRONG AND ILLOGICAL, AND NO AMOUNT OF WHITE KNIGHTING WILL SAVE YOU FROM THAT FACT. Got it?
