The Messenger ships make their departure, scouting out the area around them.
Advancements:
2 Medium ships are being made (8 turns)
I think we should expand the map and move some planets further apart, it's getting a bit crowded, territorial borders can't really be made, and we don't really have a lot of room for battles.
I can make a quick example of new space and new planet placing, but I also have another idea.
How about creating a wormhole in the center, which then leads to a new map? Could be interesting.

I kind of like those ideas. I had a hell of a time placing my new planet.
Alright. Here's what I think would work. Rate agree/disagree if you think we should use this map, and tell me if you think I should move something.

I've got no complaints, there's a lot more room now.
Moved some things to match original position.
Same as last time, rate agree/disagree to use or not use.

How about we use multiple star maps? Like each planet has it's own Solar System and we use one big map of the Galaxy. Battles can take place inside each Solar System or Solar Systems elsewhere. Like here's an example of Station X-67-din a star map:

And here is the zoom of the Station in the star map:

Notice how the station is actual size to the ships. You can make the planet pretty big so it shows off the actual size. Most of the turns will happen inside the "Planet Mode" rather than the "Galaxy Mode" and fleets of ships outside of the "Planet Mode" are displayed as square icons on the "Galaxy Mode" map. Fleets can fight each other outside of the "Planet Mode" in generic space. I'll give an example of that if you want.
That sounds awesome. One problem though, most planets are anti-aliased, so we can't really size them up. Also wouldn't mind an example of fighting outside of planet mode.

Well, I don't understand why people keep making their planets anti-aliased and keep using photoshop and stuff. It's called MSPaint for a reason, and I hate to sound like an elitist shithead, but you shouldn't be allowed to use things like Photoshop to compensate for not drawing good enough in MSPaint. People need to stop using these special effects from outside MSPaint and just learn how to paint good. I used to use MSPaint like shit and my ships were mediocre at best, but I watched how others made theirs and followed and bam, kickass ships.
And also, here's an example. My fleet and, let's say, a Cartesian fleet meet in outer space when my fleet is away from my home planet in open space (for whatever reason) and so is the Cartesian fleet. The dark red arrow signifies that they are attacking me.

The you zoom into a close up screen, much like you would a planet, that shows the ships of each fleet. Then we fight simply by common sense.

You can do the same with planets, and planets can retaliate with orbital defense. Therefore, ground battles can be fought in a similar manner as well when someone invades a planet.
I like it, but we should keep this system as well, same planets and whatnot.
Kind of like the main system.
We should also consider maybe using some of the old systems that we had just with a few planets that taken out due to those players that owned them not playing.

Units completed: Small shard.
Research In-Progress: Planet Shard growth (Same as how tyberium spreads, just alive) Allows the takeover of unused planets.
Research takes 5 turns
A sudden whining noise is heard from DE-598B and the planet starts to shake. It splits open and two perfect halves slide away from eachother. In between the two planet halves sits giant machinery. The DE-Ghost-1 and the DE-Fox-1 also separate and reveal two engines. The machinery inside the DE-598B lights up, and a long, blue chain connects to the two ships, and their machinery also lits up. A monotone buzzing noise is heard from the machinery on both ends.

So are we using the new map or what?
I'm not opposed to it.
I find It a bit weird and maybe... Hard to use, but...
It's realistic and shit.
Tho, I've restricted myself to using MSPaint since greg told us that Is hard to clean using photoshop.
I'll make my motherfucking Force Beams by myself and MSPaint, not that GIMP anymore.

How about instead of using the current map for battlespace we do a Total War type thing where the area of engagement becomes a new, empty map, where there is a lot more space to fight. It'd add maneuvering tactics too since there'd be flanking space.
After the battle is done, one of the belligerents can draw the aftermath on the primary map or such. Debris, etc.
After all, I'm pretty sure it was established that our ships are just enlarged for sake of detail. It's not like our planets are the size of our largest ship.
For aesthetic detail, you could maybe draw a huge looming version of the nearby planet(s) and such.
Not only would it save clusterfuck but it would raise the planet clusterfuck threshold because more planets could be placed in.
Delcare.
Hmm.. Sounds great! I''ll try this..
Thanks for sharing!!!

Sensing the sudden stop the bomb detonates filling the field with a blinding blue light, Traces of an unknown gas soon begin to leak out of the force-field as it weakens from the explosion.
With no signs of the blue light subsiding a Vega Vessel approaches and scans the dense cloud.
That's kind of BS, I contained it with a superweapon for christ's sake.
Anyway, as long as it doesn't endanger me or anything I'm fine with it.
[editline]6th June 2012[/editline]
Also, a leaking shield? Really?
[editline]6th June 2012[/editline]
Other than that, awesome sprite.

Oh, no need to worry, its nothing dangerous.
Also, thanks to this thread I have actually been getting heaps better at this kind of stuff. I'm hoping to move onto larger scale spriting projects like planets next.

The aqoustans have released their satellite, Loki-25A into orbit. It is picking up data on nearby planets, the sun, basically everything.
A shining light appears on top of the antenna on the DE-9000.
The entire ship lights up from the glow it projects.
A beam is fired at the intruding Small Shard.

[Keep out.]
Right before the frequency turns into static, Haeven's global account balance is raised in order to allow for another Small Chard to be built.
The DE-Fox-1 disengages from the Planet Central Core to clean up leftover plasma from the explosion.

So I guess we're not using the Galaxy Map then?
Why does everybody say my ideas are good but then they never implement them?

I really like your idea, but the question is who would implement it, and then who's going to want to move their planets and stuff.
We need some sort of vote on it, I suppose.
(Also greg, I noticed how you shielded my ships. Thanks, I guess, hah.)

Hey, do you mind if I crystalize your planet?
