Create a planet and invade others V7: Shenanigans...IN SPACE!

I'm going to think of this as a good thing. Now I can redraw the people living on my planet.
Those necks...
It will be a fresh start for all of us. I've designed a new planet for my Tau, and I hope to have more turns to build up my forces, rather than half of this thread being Necron and the other half being Tau.
Also, Lugia, since you were the 1337th poster, you should think of a new title for the next thread.
1337th poster? Fuck, were did you saw that?
OH, SHAT.
JUST SAW IT
Can we make it a rule that you can't just resurrect your old planet in the new thread, you have to make a new one?
Oh yeah, and the sun needs to be a whole lot bigger in the next thread. Considering the fact that in this thread my planet, which is meant to be tiny, is about three quarters the size of both the suns...
Agreed. I'll likely Add that rule and a few others.
Also Lugia you're 1337th post, page 34.
We shoud make ONE sun at the CENTER of the map with orbit lines, fartest planets should be colder and nearest hotter and no planets should occupy another's orbit.
You want to do a lava-filled planet fucking away from the sun?
NO.
Actually I'm planning to make a much larger map with several suns and limited planets in each system
Therefore Internal affairs will be much more important and not as many races outside that system will be meddling with another system's affairs.
I'm also adding Asteroid fields where you can mine to make stuff, and other rules with will affect combat and perhaps make it fairer.
It's kind of like a mix of common sense and statistic.
[editline]26th June 2012[/editline]
Oh yeah and each of the systems has some empty space between them.
I'm thinking that could be useful for something.
The only thing I disagree Is the combat and the several suns thing.
Shit, sometimes, facing a fucking overpowered enemy Is fun.
Actually the only thing I intend to put a limit on involving weapons is proportional to the range of weapons. Not the weapons themselves or their power, etc.
[editline]26th June 2012[/editline]
And It'll be for the better of combat in this game.
It's very one dimensional as it stands.
Also more than one sun prevents clusterfucking around resources and people fucking with everybody else's business.
"Also more than one sun prevents clusterfucking around resources and people fucking with everybody else's business. "
Dear, THIS IS FUCKING SPACE!
As the "Lore" says so, factions are ALWAYS engaging war for resources.
Ah, 'yeh, I quite agree with the range thing aswel, my Knights, for example, they won't shot from a sun to another.
But also, we should add a "fuel system" like I said previously... Or at least a limit wich certain sized ships can travel per declare.
I've basically invented a basic system
There's two types of travel.
There's Warp Mode and Propulsion Mode.
Propulsion mode is normal thruster propulsion, limiting travel to 20 pixels per turn. Though, the ship can engage in any activity the same turn
Warp Mode is travel utilizing the ship's warp engine technology, supplemented by the ship thrusters.
This allows ships to travel long distances in one turn, but after exiting warp, they must wait 1 turn to initiate certain systems like weapons, and other advanced systems.
Speaking of weapons, Projectile/beam weaponry goes out to 200 pixels, and missiles/rockets/torpedos travel out to 300 pixels, but those are a whole other story.
Yikes, I don't know about a 20 pixel limit for one turn. That means large ships can't even travel their entire length in one turn, but they can do all kinds of other crazy stuff, like destroying half of a continent. How about something more realistic, like no more than 1/3 of the map size in one turn, for both "thrust" (local systems) and "warp" (system map).
They can traverse almost this thread's entire map length that way.
The new map is 3x bigger.
Well more like 2.5x
I can increase the distance but the whole point is to make it so travel takes time and things need to be planned.
They can traverse almost this thread's entire map length that way.

Well, maybe a fifth? It was just an arbitrary number. The point is that the previous proposal is far too restricted and unrealistic.
Unrealistic?
It took the voyager 40 years to get ALMOST out of our solar system at about 14 kilometers per second.
1 pixel per turn would be more realistic but this is a game.
what about 50 pixels? That would make combat a little more symmetrical as to the weapon ranges.
Unrealistic?

50 Pixels is still really small. We need to be able to effectively travel fairly quickly but not be able to jump clear across the map. If this were an RTS, I'd entertain the thought, but it's a public roleplaying game. We can't have a million declares of "My fleet moves another inch towards the next planet over."
50 pixels is for MANUAL PROPULSION.
Warping will be nothing special.
Warping will be basically moving like in this thread. The only limit being that you can't initiate any weapons or super systems until next turn.
We need to be able to effectively travel fairly quickly but not be able to jump clear across the map.
AKA warp.
Propulsion would just be using the ship's regular thrusters, and face it if realism is at stake, I'd take the 50 pixels.
There's only a 1 turn limit to use warp again,
I never implied those little 50 pixels is the only form of travel available, and as far as I'm concerned the only reason a faction's ships wouldn't have warp is if they didn't want to have warp available yet, I.E. an early space age civilization.
Wouldn't it be a little stupid if some ship you're about to ambush can just instantly flank you and then fire, taking any position that favors them they desire?
50 pixels at a time would balance out the way combat is done, since you can't just warp around during combat (Especially because of that limit I would put in place.)

What's the good in making a new thread if everything's going to be just the same?
Not many people are contributing, and I personally think this thread is long winded.
You guys don't know what "not many contributions" really is. There has been at least 1 new post every day, usually more.
Back in the day, we might get 4 a day with luck.
Still, I want to use a new thread, complete with that Galaxy Map system with some slight changes.
I call it, since I was supposed to make the OP for this one but Mr. Face shamelessly snatched it from under me! :v:
I already called making the new thread.
:v:
[editline]27th June 2012[/editline]
Is this thread dead?
I'm calling next thread.
Also Lugia you should pick the next thread caption since you were 1337th poster
[editline]27th June 2012[/editline]
Also banana what do you intend we do with that map system?
I think having our ships be little green dots over a picture of some galaxy is a little underwhelming, even if they get to be seen in battle.
[editline]27th June 2012[/editline]
There is SO MUCH MORE to this game than just the battles by now.
I'm willing to give the galaxy map a try.
Also, greg said he had an iteration of the galaxy map that he had planned out, but never told us.
Please, let's not make CPIO V8 an annoying rule stricted game.
We should use common sense In combat this time.
If I knew, the victims decides what happens to their ships when attacked... Rather than the attackers.
And the "systems"? Wich of those we should use?
If we're using the galaxy map, we should make an ORIGINAL galaxy.
It shouldn't be a doubt that Orion, Milky-Way and Andromeda were already explored and possibly stripped out of resources.
The Milky way is 50,000 Light years across...
It's impossible they would have been totally stripped. That's stupid.
I'm all for the galaxy map, but I'm not saying I want to make it a rule oriented thing.
It's just that this common sense with everything is bullshit because people were crossing the whole system and then firing their entire fleet's guns in 1 turn.
That's when the distance limits and energy levels comes In, they will not only provide a more realistic gameplay but It will prevent overpowered fleets to raise hell In half a turn.
Distance levels will still be overpowered themselves if you allow them to traverse half the galaxy.
My "galaxy map" system was already posted a few pages ago.
It basically works like sins of a solar empire, but the sectors are the same size as in bananafoam's system.
Might still post my example declare of it.
Also, you guys REALLY should not start to think up your own threads and rules.
Instead, discuss them here. Maybe even make a vote.
Also, I vote that the TPN and the Cartesians claimed most of the map for backstory :v:
(We had a plan to do so anyway)
Me and Banana Are already coming up with a rewrite for the rules accommodating the new system we're going to use (Which is his system, but anyone go ahead and post your iterations and stuff)
Wait what? You've just decided on your own to use that system?
I know I'm not participating if we use it, that's for sure.
It's cool and all, but it's too different.
No, Me and Banana Decided to do a Co-op on the new thread, but by all means we're still open to suggestions.
It's just that we've modified the system a bit and It actually looks pretty good,.
Shit , I missed a lot.
The funeral is tomorrow, I'll be back on Sunday.
I wouldn't be too against the whole limited movement thing but I know for damn sure that I'm not going to measure out 50 pixels every time I want to move but I do agree that combat as it stands is basically whoever puts themselves in the best position.

aww yeah. Well if we carry on the rule that you have to be a whole different planet and race then I've got a plan, actually wrote a sort of backstory and all. Involves Gito being split into 3 major corporations.
