I would help people, even if it did not make me feel better.
Should have replaced the $300 with 3 $1 notes :v: And obviously kept the rest.
Have you ever heard of "altruism?" Like maybe how it doesn't exist? Search it up. For every donation, every act of good will, every anonymous aid there is a selfish motive behind it. Example: I donated $10 to the Salvation Army today. Why? Because it makes me feel "selfless," it makes me feel that I'm a benevolent, kind-hearted member of society. My peers will look at me and say, "Wow, that guy is pretty cool, he's willing to give money to children in Africa because he cares!" Wrong. I don't care. Why would I care about some kid I don't know? I'm doing it for myself, and myself only. http://bartwilson.blogspot.com/2005/10/does-altruism-exist.html ^ Interesting Article. Go write an essay on it.
Or that's just because you're angsty and pessimistic. You're saying people do not care about the human race? I don't donate to feel better about myself, I donate for the good of mankind. Also, a quote from your page that sums up my retort to people that have your mindset:
A successful businessman -- or even the teenage child of moderately prosperous parents -- would have trouble picturing himself in the situation of being homeless, yet many do help the beggars on the street. The businessman -- or the teenager -- never anticipates being in the opposite position of the bum on the street. Something is driving him to make the decision to give money to the beggar or to donate time to help at the shelter. The recognition in the community is almost never enough to motivate someone to selfless action. So what does motivate someone to do a good deed in secret? Arguably, the positive feeling of having done something good may qualify as a reward, but isn't that the same as altruism?
It wasn't really his.
Who cares what motive you have for helping people, the fact is you're helping them, which makes the person feel better. I like to do little things for everyone, it makes me happy knowing my friends like me and can depend on me to help them. You can call me selfish, sure. But I'm still helping people.
You did well, those 300$ might mean a new ipod for you but might mean that the old man can eat this month. Who knows. I applaud you.
Honestly, I'd have kept every penny without thinking twice.
+1 OP is kind hearted idiot.
Gotta say that i would have kept the money.
What kind of retarded lunch lady confused a $10 bill for 3 quarters.
look closer
On Friday on the bus, the door closed too soon when a girl was getting off, and her school bag got caught in the door. The Bus driver started to drive off without knowing this, but i said "backdoor" didn't hear me. I raised my voice a little. "Open the backdoor". Didn't hear me. I was kind of getting fed up. "OPEN THE BACKDOOR!" He finally heard me. He opened the door, and fortunately the bus didn't move very far, so i handed the girl back her bag. She smiled and said "Thank you". I was going to make a thread, but i didn't think it was worth one, but i'll just post it here.
Good Karma Earned (Angel Vault Boy Img here) [editline]05:56AM[/editline] It also could have been a Welfare stamp. So whoever said that he could eat this month is probably right.
Good job mang.
You rang?
why is everyone rating the OP dumb i will fight you
I think it's more or less because if you are stupid enough to lose 300 dollars....... You don't deserve it back.

Go write an essay on it.
I guess I'm mentally challenged because for me doing good things is my only nature as I just can't bring my self to do evil things, and when ever I do nice things no matter how minor I typically don't think about how good it felt or anything, it just feels like what i should naturally be doing. If anything I feel happy for the person not for my self because I did what was right in my opinion. Of course this thread isn't about me and my minor shit but my point is, altruism exists stop being a cock about it the guy feels good cause he made someone else happy. [editline]08:39AM[/editline]
I think you don't understand the meaning of altruism. Your thinking of psychological egotism.
pretty much that
If there was no address or any way to find out whose it is on that envelope, i would most likely keep it.
WHAT HOw could you return 300 bucks
Ask him if he'll sex you.
I would have keept it.
Or you could have taken the real money out, put play money inside it, then give him the envelope. You said he was older...so how would he know the difference?
That guy sounds like a prick. Shoulda kept it.
Maybe he just couldn't spare the money? [editline]05:18PM[/editline] It's the act that counts.
This goes along with my hypothesis that all human actions are based on self needs. If you think about it, everything we do is our choice. If you chose to do it, then it is satisfying your gratification in some way or form, whether you realize it or not. It gets kind of confusing, especially with things like "I didn't want to go to school, but I did." Well that person chose to go to school because they found that it will benefit them more than not going, probably in the sense that their parents punishment is not worth it, keeping up with school work, or simply for their own education. If you see any flaw in this idea, please say so. I feel it is very iffy but find it difficult to point out any errors. [editline]01:51AM[/editline] OH SON OF A FUCKING BITCH THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS. Oh well. At least I know I was onto something. Not to sound all-mighty but this does happen a lot with ideas of mine. But I'd rather have found it to be true than to be false. Odds are I'm not the only one to think of my ideas, or to have thought of it first. [editline]01:52AM[/editline] You like doing it. You like doing it. You are selfish because you only help people to make yourself feel better.
The problem is that your dwelling on why someone does something 'selfless' If they did it for themselves then why not, they worked for it.
What a disappointing ending.
POLITE/NICE/FRIENDLY I rate you heart.
dumbass you should have just given him the money and kept the envelope
Wait wait, What?
are you out of your mind
I should change my avatar to a gaybow to just to get gaybows.
