It doesn't matter. A lot of people in the Army say clip when they have a mag. My dad picked up one of my friend's m14 (which he used a little bit in Vietnam and used the m1 carbine in Korea) and sayed "you got a clip?" to him and my friend said "its a magizine". My dad responed, "It doesn't mean shit, if u said that to my friends, they would probably shoot you since you havent been in no war where people die in front of your eyes. Death doesn't care about your grammer and sure hell neither the soldiers you are with." If you corrected a soldier about his clip being a mag, he'd kick your ass. Thats what my dad says and he fought in Korea and Vietnam

And no, the MP40 fires 9mm rounds, and that's a mag from a P226 which can also be chambered in 9mm if I'm not mistaken
