I don't think it's as populated as if you compare to a few years back. If you, however, manage to make it epic I think I'd be cool.
No I think he would be the cool one actually.:smug:
Discount to any facepunch users that show up. :v:
The last few posters above me are insane. No one would pay 10 bucks to play a game for an hour. NO ONE.
ur mom is insane for letting you live and raising u because ur so stupid, ugly, fat, etc
Expensive. But brilliant nonetheless.
I'm thinking of getting some other electronic buisnesses to advertise. Like ATT to advertise there internet connection and maybe ATI or Nvidia to advertise their cards.
Not to be mean but I doubt it would work, most people interested in games already have systems and would rather play at home, and rewarding them with prizes would probably leave you with little profit.
Sadly, this is true.
Any ideas on how to find out how many people would want one in my area.
Target audience is obviously young kids, adolescents. Go out and ask them.
But charge like a $10 entrance fee for the tourny would pay pay for prizes, the more people the nicer prizes.
My advice is start small, you don't want to spent a fuckload of money on equipment then realise that nobody in your area is interested. Also, get a few computers set up with Nvidia 3d Vision, that would be a BIG pull.

It needs to be dark with neon lighting and backlit keyboards, that's how a gaming cafe should be. Also you need to have a very good ventilation system, it will get very hot and stuffy in there.
And I wont forget cleaning. :downs:
Its a good idea in theory, but by expierance of Xbox Live people love to kill other people and talk smack to strangers who can't hurt them personally. People prefer to play games with people who are their friends or people that can't see. If you want to do this, and you would like to include multi-player games at the location, make sure you don't select ones where 1 dude could own everyone around him and your other customers who are playing with him become disatisfied and walk away. People have come slowly less social since the days of arcades
I worked in a gaming net cafe once it was pretty nice, had like 50+ high end computers and food and stuff. Most of the money came only came from the regulars, aka "the guys that comes 8 in the morning and leaves 8 in the evening". One day a fight broke out and the regulars decided to leave for another net cafe. Our cafe had to shut down because lack of funds.
So OP, will you be selling drinks, snacks or food? If you are, get somebody to make some for ya. And if you are making a drink for the customers, don't make some shitty coffee. Make something nice like adding whipcream to coffee, add tapioca balls into the drink. Make something orginal. [editline]01:17AM[/editline] Also, fix chairs that are broken or at least those that has serious problems. I hate LAN shops with more than half of the chairs being broken. [editline]01:18AM[/editline] Also, make some brochures and give them out. It helps. [editline]01:19AM[/editline] And you may also want to get new games that are hyped, for example L4D2. And don't always go for L4D, CS, DOTA, try other games as well. [editline]01:21AM[/editline] A clean place is also important. And make sure that the LAN shop isn't too bright or too dark. And if possible get some headsets for computers, or consoles
QFT. Just be careful with sloppy guys spilling their latte/bawls/monster all over the keyboards and stuff, make sure you can place a cupholder, preferrably to one of the sides of the monitors or something. A cool idea I saw in an internet café around my city not so long ago, is that they have a bluetooth spot, so that you can upload the pics/music/whatever from your phone to a fileserver and then you can access the uploaded content, without having to plug in your phone to the PC or installing any software beforehand. I thought it was pretty cool, people mostly use that to upload phone pics straight to their Facebook accounts and stuff without using their phone internet access.
gawd, i hate little kids at cafes. "BOOM HEADSHOTSHOTSHOT"

If Facepunch member's get a discount, the secret password is "Suck Hezzy's cock" . :ninja:
My local one got shut down because of a fight :(
Not to be mean but I doubt it would work, most people interested in games already have systems and would rather play at home, and rewarding them with prizes would probably leave you with little profit.
I know plenty of people who love games but lack the hardware to be able to play them well.
Do it! I had a local one called cyberzone, which introduced me to hl2 awhile ago (i played hl1 but never knew a 2nd one came out) Sadly, the place was sued and had to close their shops in my area. Some mother of a kid sued because they let him play m rated games.
Not to be mean but I doubt it would work, most people interested in games already have systems and would rather play at home, and rewarding them with prizes would probably leave you with little profit.
The most well-known and one of the few internet cafes in my city gets at least a hundred customers a day.
Do it, I have a local place called The Matrix pretty fun place a total of 3 in the city. Depending on the location they got PC,360 and PS3.
Most places are sponsored by a major company. i.e, Monster, Razor, Alienware, etc.
Most places are sponsored by a major company. i.e, Monster, Razor, Alienware, etc.
Yea, getting some sponsors could majorly help you pay for all this.
I like the washable keyboards, Sponsors are a must but I'll have to do some research, and now I'm thinking of seperate login accounts. A Everything account and a 17 and under account so I wont get sued.
You best have a lot of money to start out, my friend just started one recently (not open yet) and he already spent over £20,000 in the first day of setting it up, just for the computers, not for anything else.
Oh wow thanks for that. I will make sure. I knew it cost money but now I know roughly the cost for computers.
