I always preferred the US version due because I grew up watching the Drew Carrey show which had Drew and Ryan on it.
I give Drew Carey a ton of credit for not being afraid to push the envelope and try things that nobody else would at the time. Remember the pop-up episodes? Remember that episode that was done entirely in one take?
hey has anyone managed to find a home version on ebay?
been looking high and low but just can't seem to find one
Well, I just watched an hour of Whose Line Is It Anyway thanks to this thread. Drew Carey's Improv-a-ganza isn't the same :(

It will never be the same but I still think it really has its moments. Jonathan Mangum is hilarious.

I just urinated with joy.
I just saw that, I can't believe it! Best news I've heard all year.
If Colin is just fucking with us, entire Internet will be pissed off.
Wayne Brady isn't black. At least not on the inside.
If/when it does come back that's going to be amazing, but they're all old now and it's sad and junk. Except Wayne Brady because he doesn't age.
It doesn't matter if they're old. If you're funny you're funny.
That said I'd like to see a lot more new cast members. You can't keep going on with the same thing, you can never recapture the magic and should try. Keep the old ones around and throw some new guys in to make it fresh.

PS
It's confirmed. There's an official press release. Aisha Tyler (From Archer) is the host
Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles, and Wayne Brady will appear in ever episode plus a different guest comedian each week.
Sounds good to me, those were my favourite cast members.

They might be a bit old, but watching some of the later shows (like Improv A Ganza and Green Screen) Colin and Ryan definitely still have what makes them hilarious.
Unfortunately, I don't think Colin will be break dancing in Greatest Hits though.
They better not let Charlie Sheen on.
oh my god
oh my god
OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
My life has meaning again
I wonder why there's no Drew though. Will miss him and the jokes they made about him
He was like part of the family. He was part of the gang. It was great laughing at his expense or watching him crack up. He never intervened too much either.
But his improv sucked.

His improv from behind the desk was usually pretty hilarious.
Taping of the first episode today!

Also, notice how in the 3rd image Aisha Tyler is wearing a Mass Effect Normandy jacket... odd. :v:
Man this is gonna be so good.
Notice how Aisha (the host) is wearing a N7 hoodie. :v:
wait oh late.
Whoa, the guys have some right modern get-ups this time around. Should be interesting, though I miss Ryan's shoes and Colin's shirts.
I like how the stage is quite the same. I think one of the things wrong with Improvoganza was that it was a big fancy glitzy stage. This is quite similar to the old stage

it looks EXACTLY like the old studio
everything is the same exact size/the seating is even exactly the same.
So here's my experience:
Got there a lot later than I wanted to, my friend was in a cooking competition and I had to wait for her to finish (she ended up winning first place). The two people behind us were the last ones they let in, the rest were on stand by if there were extra seats so a few of them got in. We were lucky though. We were seated at the top of one of the staircases, so we were right behind Aisha when she filmed the openings.
The fourth actor they had for improv was some young girl I'd never heard of, she kind of sucked, but she wasn't used that much. I found out that the people they bring on stage are planted in the audience beforehand, one of them I knew worked at the studio, it was pretty disappointing but I kind of expected it. The special guests they had were Lisa Leslie, a WNBA player, Wayne did a song about her, the other was the kid in the wheelchair from Glee. He participated in two of the song games and was in Helping Hands.
Aisha Tyler was actually really funny when she wasn't being recorded. She'd entertain the audience during breaks, she actually talked to my sister when she was preparing to open the show. As the host she really didn't say much other than the introductions and reading the scenes, so she might not be great on TV. It was only the second day of filming so she might have just been warming up to it, not sure though. I hope she did more at the other tapings because she's got the potential to be funny, just not as good as Drew getting made fun of by the cast.
They had two new games, one was where they took two purses from audience members and performed a scene with what was in it. It wasn't that funny, I doubt it'll even get used. The second one, Colin Wayne and the girl went into another room and laid on a mat with a bed outlined on it. Then a camera that was above them was projected in front of us to look like they were standing up as they acted out the scene. It was actually pretty hilarious how awkward it was for them trying to move.
They did the green screen newsflash game and showed a dental procedure, Colin could barely figure it out because all you could hear was the audience's sounds of disgust and shock. It was pretty terrible, drilling and shots and stuff. Like to the point that it wasn't even funny.
They filmed enough material for two episodes while we were there. It was about two and a half hours of filming the actual games, which was great all the way through. The last hour though they had us film the shows opening and credits about 10 times each, then redid a bunch of introductions. That was pretty exhausting, most of the audience was exhausted from clapping on command for an hour. I had an idea of how tapings work but I didn't expect it to be as tiring as it was. The guys made it fun though. There were a couple of times where we had to laugh and then applaud for camera filler, the stage manager (old British guy you see in a lot of the bloopers on YouTube) would tell Ryan to say something funny, usually he'd just reply with "Fuck you." or "Go fuck yourself" which was hilarious.
Despite some of the dumb stuff it was a really great experience. I expected most of the troubles with watching it live so I'm not upset. I expect the series to be just as good as the original when it airs.

From the monitors of what was being filmed, it looks almost exactly the same, the angles and everything. It was pretty much an identical set.
If you guys have any specific questions I should be able to answer.
Oh man, that's awesome! I have a few questions.
Did they have the game where they lie down on their sides, and it was filmed high up facing down so it looked like they were standing up?
Did you find that the parts where they were playing the games from the original show funny, or even as funny?
Did they wear more formal clothing than what was seen in the Laura Hall photos?
