Odd future, Rage against the machine NWA, we got it all...
Where?
my town actually recently got a concert venue. unfortunately it's quite small right now so it's mostly showing metalcore and some art rock stuff(what an odd combo)
but i live near Athens which has a huge alternative rock scene(also, my friend played wiffle ball with Jeff Mangum, the frontman of Neutral Milk Hotel)
Atlanta's mostly rap i guess, but i don't really pay attention to Atlanta.
[editline]11th May 2011[/editline]
of, and we have of Montreal
Odd future, Rage against the machine NWA, we got it all...
NWA is definitely not from LA
[editline]11th May 2011[/editline]
In other news, there is no "music scene" where I live, at all
Mostly metalcore and deathcore shit. :smith:
In my local area (Providence/Southern MA), the only scenes that really manage to thrive are the hardcore and punk scenes. Shame for a bluesman like myself.
I'm fairly sure we don't have one. Either that or I haven't looked hard enough. Local bands don't really exist here unless they're fronted by teens from my high school.
[editline]v[/editline]
Well shit. I forgot I can hear Country Thunder from my house. :v:
So basically, garbage music.

I thought there were more classical musicians in that area of Massachusetts. The All-State Orchestra of 2009 had most of the wind players from southern Mass (I think. I could be wrong. I'm not a wind player).
In my area it's just me. I don't think there's any other musicians at all in my town.

Not really my music scene so I wouldn't know sadly.
As far as I know, me and my friend are currently the entirety of the music scene in my town. We're pretty much the only local band here.
Oh, an insanely good math band that plays around (mostly western MA). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkZs8JVyPOg , videos from when they were in CA.
Eagle Statue, one of my favorite bands.
[hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHtSOK_SL_Q&hd=1[/hd]
Not my favorite song. Also the girl sounds funny in the recording, but oh my god she sounded orgasmically awesome live. I wanted to propose.
Lots of shitty generic *core bands
Columbus OH, Pretty Awesome, Some Pop shit and a lot of Indie Rock / Alternative
Well I'm in Austin so...
kansas city
everyone here is a fucking hipster
Lots of shitty generic *core bands
this
but I'm okay with it
Edinburgh's pretty damn good for underground music, it's pretty shitty for more established acts.
Venues: Banshee Labyrinth, Sneaky Pete's, Opium (load of shit), Liquid Rooms, Voodoo Rooms, student unions, Roxy Art House, Studio 24, loads of pub venues.
Too many locals bands pop up and die out for me to keep track. A Torn Mind and Sectioned are personal favourites though, worth checking out

Lots of bands that sound exactly like YouMeAtSix with shredding solo's. Lots of breakdowns and swinging their guitars around their necks.

I live near those guys, my friend has a friend who knows the singer, cocky arsehole apparently
But yeah here there's a bit of everything, but it all sucks, particularly the wannabe metal bands
Madonna was born in my home town.
In my current city we are pretty diverse. I know kids that do hardstyle work, post-rock, hardcore, thrash, and I'm thinking about starting an electro-rock project with a few friends of mine.
lol shitty dubstep
anyway I live in the hipster capitol of the world. we created hipster. We are hipster
that aside, all of the fucking great music from here came from the bigger brother, Minneapolis. St paul has been left in the dust. a joke. a sad joke
[editline]13th May 2011[/editline]
however, we are fortunate in that we have the only real metal venue between the two cities so I got that on my side, though ironically all of the actual local metal bands are Minneapolis based
I feel relieved to know my town isn't the only one with shitty "core" bands.
The music scene in perth is awful. There's the people that know shit all about music and listen to radio music, there are the people that know about music and listen to shit nobody cares about to claim superiority when they're just listening to 80's metal and bragging on about it, and theres the emo/scene kids that go to a place called "HQ" to mosh to shitty "Hardcore" bands with their earlobes stretched and black eyeliner ans shit and I FUCKING HATE IT
I am yet to meet someone else who has listened to a pink floyd song other than "Another Brick in the Wall" or as they call it "We don't need no Education". It's painful
you need to find more old men with ponytails, those are the prog guys
[editline]14th May 2011[/editline]
or any indian kid that plays guitar
or sitar :science:
my town right now is a shitty fucking indian reservation.
the only "music" scene here are faggot kids who think they can be the next lil wayne or 50 cent
yeah just shitty gangster rap
fuck
Perth, Australia has a pretty fucking awesome scene considering how dull the rest of it is. Some great acts come from here.
Perth is also home to a major local scene, which has produced nationally and internationally renowned bands like Eskimo Joe, John Butler Trio, Gyroscope, Birds of Tokyo, End of Fashion, Little Birdy, Jebediah, Sleepy Jackson, Karnivool, Institut Polaire, The Panics, Ease, The Waifs, Tame Impala and several drum and bass acts, like Pendulum and Greg Packer.
Not a bad list. And there's a pretty popular venue for underground metal bands just down the street from me. I'd say we have a pretty good track record seeing as the rest of the place is so dull.

Um. Didn't notice this post. HQ is what I was talking about, nothing wrong with it, I've been there a few times and I'm not a scene faggot!
Although I will agree, the ridiculous amount of 40-year old men with Disturbed t-shirts is pretty disturbing.
Gotta give the place credit, we've produced some pretty good bands (Well, I just fucking love Karnivool)
[editline]14th May 2011[/editline]
Actually looking back on your post it's pretty ignorant. You should get out more, I don't know what you're talking about. And you can't really call the scene here shit when we have festivals like the Big Day Out and Soundwave.
Non-existent.
It's about 40% electronically produced music, 30% metal and 30% indie bands
Swedish traditional, alot of folk, and some rock. Me and a guy is trying to introduce some blues to it aswell!
