I would like to know what rifles you are equipped with and what accessories, if any. Sounds silly, I know, but I find the logistics of the different positions/branches and how they arm them quite interesting. I've been told that the M16A4 MWS isn't nearly as common as it should be for the Marines, that a lot of the grunts are still using A2's. Can anyone comment/confirm/deny? Thanks in advance. One more thing, my friend has made a 96 (I think? maybe a 98) on the ASVAB, and is going for Nuke in the Navy, and he is totally convinced I can do as good if not better than he did on the ASVAB. Should I take it and just see what becomes of it? I have two chronic illnesses so I'm not sure they would even take me anyway.
Talk to a recruiter, they'll give you a practice test (which is fairly accurate; it was for me at least), and they will be able to tell you if your two chronic illnesses are wavier-able right now or not. a 96-98 on the ASVAB is almost the highest score you can get on it (99 being the highest, as it is a percentile based scoring system which also breaks down into line scores which decide which job/rate/MOS you break down into). Its a piss easy test, if you payed attention in school and didn't messed around/learned basic algebra. Also what are your two chronic ailments if you dont mind me asking?
@ camwi As an Army grunt at Fort Campbell I was issued an M4 with 4x Acog, surefire tactical flashlight and a Peq-15 infared/laser system. I found a forward hand grip in my platoons supply box and slapped that on the front end as well until I was transferred as an anti-armor rifleman to my platoons weapons squad and given a pos m203 to lug around.

Most Marine Riflemen use M16A4s. Almost all now days come with an ACOG. And then usually, we all had PEQ-15s or PEQ-16s. PEQ-16s have a built on flash light, so some of the guys who had the PEQ-15s got issued Sure Fire Flashlights. The weapons platoon guys usually get priority with the M4s. Mainly, because they have to carry around other shit like Mortar tubes, SMAWs, M240s, etc. After them, the officers and squad leaders get the M4s.

The CF is a ultra-rare strain and is around the 2nd or 3rd rarest known, both of which cause me Chronic Pain that I take Methadone for.

Main reason being it will effect your ability to be fit for full duty and they don't want to spend the cash to take treat your medical conditions.
It's just a military thing. It is rather unexplainable.
It's not just military. There's something that goes on when a group of men with a mission get together. Broke Back Mountain Phenomena. I'm sure there's a psychological explanation for it.
any of you guys been to 29 palms? What's it like there?

I can get off the meds, but it would take some time... I'm also not a normal CF size person, I'm 6' 2" and 215 lbs. Dunno if that effects my ability to be "fit" or not.
any of you guys been to 29 palms? What's it like there?
Fucking hot, depressing, and even more fucking hot. It's in the Mojave Desert area, so daytime temps run in the 100s normally. Night time temps drop down to around 60s. 29 Palms was notorious for being an Army base before, and then the Army deemed it unsuitable to train at. So the Marines picked it up and built it up. The ranges are fucking long, hot, and rocky. Range 400 is infamous for being the longest range out of all the training sites in the US. That range sucks big ass. That was the only time I felt so dizzy from heat exhaustion, I almost passed out on my face flat. I believe it was like 5 kilometers of range we had to go through. We were all loaded down with so much ammo, that some people were dumping it so they could run faster. I fired so much, my metal broom stick handle on the front started heating up, too hot to hold. Bottom line, it's Satan's asshole.
I heard its only a 2 and a half hour drive to vegas though. that's a plus I guess
All ya'll fuckers comin' out of ITB as E-3's. I got out of ITB an E-1, and just became an E-2 a month ago. Now to wait for me to get NJP'd, as per proper 0331 procedure.

I don't know what it is, but the weapons platoon guys are always the mosty rowdy muther fuckers for some reason. See video above. Almost all the guys are all weapons guys. It gets pretty hard to keep partying at Vegas on a lowly E-3 paycheck.
0341 "Tube Stroker" here. 81's. Went through Parris Island; stationed in Cali now. Most boring job ever. I spend more time doing 0311 shit than anything usually. I'm a SAW gunner in that regard. More boot than the boots on my feet, of course.
Alright so I'm 17 and would probably consider myself to be in good shape and plan on joining the army. Can one of you suggest what I should do to prepare myself for boot in general/have a workout regiment?
One, never call it boot. It is Basic or BCT. Two, work on your pushups, situps, and 2 mile run time. For further questions, it would be good to post them in here: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1250383
military things
ok
I'm in the army, in probably one of the cushier jobs, albeit somewhat relevant in today's politics. 14E, however operating as a 14H I work with PATRIOT, ADA systems

Also, 5 days away from becoming an NCO
Longest one we had was only around 25 miles or so? But it sucked, because they helicoptered us out at the bottom of the mountain and we had to go up hill. After that, it went up and down, up and down. Took all day. The whole company was strung out over a mile. Then after, the commanding officer wanted to do the obstacle course. It sucked, but after it was all over, he brought us all beer. One of the best beers I've had; only took 1 beer to get me buzzed, because I was so dehydrated.
