Overall, I really liked it, it was a lot of fun to watch.
I did think that it was too gloomy and atmospheric in the beginning, though. They made a real location, the exterior of the cabin, look like a set. The ultra low budget original did a better job of being natural as the characters were on their way to the cabin. The third act in the remake was very different than that of the original (I have not seen Evil Dead 2, but I'm assuming that the remake's third act was more in the style of the sequel than the style of the original). While I loved the over the top blood and action of this remake's final act, I felt that they could have had made it more surreal, like the original. Things like blood inexplicably coming out of the light sockets, filling up a lightbulb, and dripping onto a film projector was great. Then again, in the remake, they just had it straight up rain blood, that's pretty damn surreal, so I don't know.
Both movies are fun to watch.
And this is probably eons late, but a Q&A with Bruce about the movie before it was released.

He's a goddamn comedian, I love it :v:
I realize this thread is a bit old but I do have something to say about this film:
I seriously fucking loved it.
The story is great. Think of the fear circulating through mia's mind when she is haunted by these demons WHILE going through heroin withdrawal. That factor alone makes the story priceless for me.
Reason #2 why I loved this film. THE ENERGY. The dark creepy energy of this cabin, in particular the bath/shower room and the kitchen is amazing. The sounds and music to go along with it made it just that much better.
I could just be in love because me and my friends smoked 2 chronic joints right before we went into the theater but that just made the energy so much more real.
Before you ask, I saw the 3 originals by the age of 6 and loved them dearly.
SEE this movie. You will gain an appreciation for the creepy energy of weymouth, MA where the film takes place.

Not to mention the ending where [sp]Mia shove the chainsaw in the demon's mouth while saying "Swallow this!" and fucking SHOWER the place with its blood with a rage scream[/sp] was fucking awesome.

I'm pretty sure the film takes place in Michigan, seeing as they specifically mentioned MSU, Flint, and one of them had on an MC5 (Motor City 5) shirt on.

That absolutely made the movie for me. I already enjoyed how much it was ramping up but the sheer length of that scene was just fantastic.

Negative. The 5 kids are from Michigan but in the film they have traveled to Weymouth Massachusetts to detox mia.

"Evil Dead : Five friends become holed up in a remote cabin when they discover the Necronomicon and unwittingly awaken a dormant demonic presence living in the nearby woods in Weymouth, Massachusetts."
Finally got around to seeing this, I must have seen a different film from most of you because i thought it was seriously piss weak.
Stilted acting, characters I dont give a shit about (literally only remember two of their names), bad-convenient-plot advancing points and an over reliance on gore out moments all the while taking its self a bit too seriously, which then doesn't gel when it tries to make homages to the original....
Its not a BAD film, but its nothing engaging really either. The only really good thing I can say about it is that it was nice to see a big budget hollywood film finally get back to prioritizing real sfx over CGI.

I didn't. The cabin and the forest was completely underplayed compared to the original.
