I prefer to spell it marihuana, I dislike lowercase Js, as I find the subscript extension harms the line of a sentence. Etymologically, the spelling is acceptable. http://books.google.com/books?id=VTYBbGybtNEC&pg=PA142&hl=en#v=onepage&q&f=false
Yeah okay, you're not writing an essay dude
It's not often one has the chance to choose between alternate spellings of a word. I like to take advantage of it to pick the one I like.
You could call it cannabis rather than sounding pretentious.
Marihuana refers to it specifically in the context of being a drug. Cannabis is the name of the plant. I prefer to be precise so as to avoid confusion.
This isn't the place to start this argument. Keep it in the news section please. This thread is about advice to people who are new to marijuana, let's not get off topic.
Also trouserdemon, why would that stop you from wanting to try it, isn't that study based on long term use? It's not like you take one hit then suffer phycosis.
I'll try it when I'm not in the high risk age-group.
But still, it was a long term study on regular uses, which im sure you would not become. Do you drink alcohol? cause thats meant to do damage when you are in that age group as well.
If you want to argue about the study or the issue please go here http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1065304-Cannabis-use-raises-psychosis-risk My friend/dealer said they can hook me up with [strain name]. Is it any good? Something to understand about strain names is that dealers will make the names up or just not know what they are talking about. They may see something that has a lot of crystals and call it White Widow. A lot of times names are made up to sell their product. Asking if a certain strain is good is really hard to answer because there is low chance that what you will be getting will be that strain. This is of course untrue of places like California because they are more reputable because of the large chain of medical marijuana dispensaries. If you want information about strains, go to the link below. http://www.marijuanastrains.com/
I'm going to use that pepin, adding that to OP and the other entry you posted
Feel free to add this as well. You don't have to quote me because I think it would look better as just a single FAQ. What is the best way to not smell like I've been smoking? How long does the smell last? Open air, spray, changing clothes, showering. As far as your mouth goes, brushing your teeth and lips, gum, food, and most of all time. There are a lot of factors in how long you will smell like weed, the biggest being where you are smoking it. If you're hot boxing a small room, the smell is going to stay on you longer then if you're traveling on a nature trail. What this pretty much means is that if you are really worried about smelling, hot boxing an area would not be an ideal decision. You also have to take different kinds of weed into consideration. Some stuff smells stronger and will linger on your a lot longer than other stuff. Just as a little story, Meader took the roaches of his joints and would reuse them in the next joint. After a large number of generations the joint was extremely dank. The issue with it though was that it stunk and the smell lingered so very easily. This wouldn't be a big deal if it wasn't for the fact that you could get in trouble with the college just for smelling like weed. If you're smoking outside, there are still a few tips that can help reduce smell. Blow smoke away from people, in a direction where it won't come back. If your body doesn't come in contact with smoke, then only your mouth will smell of smoke. It's always good to carry your stuff in a plastic baggy or some other kind of container. Smell really isn't that much of an issue to worry about, it should be gone in around half an hour, but at times it can linger pretty badly. If you're worried about the smell, following the above advice will help reduce the chance of the smell lingering. The different levels of highness This is how I'd categorize it, other people may do it differently. I like to think of it in plateaus. You can't really mistake a different plateau for another. Sober - You feel relatively normal. You don't feel any different. Buzzed - You aren't feeling as normal, you may be getting some minor effects. You know that you're feeling something, but it isn't affecting you that much. Half High - You feel pretty impaired but not to its full extent. It's a good step up from buzzed, but you couldn't really say "woah I'm high". You could probably say "I'm feeling it, but I'm not high". If you want, you could also call this really buzzed. High - This is where you feel the full effect of the drug. You can't really mistake the previous levels for being high because it is obvious to you that you are high. Although you are pretty high, you are comfortable with it and it feels pretty controllable. Uncomfortably High - This is where the effects are out of your comfort limit. You still feel as though you have some control over high and that you are somewhat grounded. Too High - This is where you don't have control over your high and the effects are very overwhelming. This is where many people are likely to start freaking out and think they are dying. Many people enjoy the thrill of being too high, but it is often difficult for newer smokers to enjoy it. Personally, I must say that my best highs have been when I've been too high. Is there a difference between being high and being stoned? Yes there is. A good point to realize though is that high can be a specific term, and also a general term. It's not that uncomplicated as you can usually figure it out from the context. Also realize that some people may use them interchangeably. High - You feel more energetic. You want to do things. The effects are usually more in your head. The sativa strain will usually make you high. Stoned - This is pretty much the opposite. You don't really want to do things. You could sit and stare at the wall and still have a great time. Couch lock may happen. The effects are usually more in your body. The indica strain is more likely to cause this. What causes the different highs? There are about 66 different cannabinoids in marijuana. The most well known is THC and this will usually cause a head high. But the other cannabinoids also have a big factor in it. Usually a potent strains with a lower amount of THC will produce a body high and will make you stoned while strains with high THC will produce a head high and make you high. It's also good to point out that sativas usually have a higher amount of THC while the opposite is true of indicas. The answer is the different ratios of the active ingredients. How long will the high take to wear off? That depends on how much you smoke and a few other factors. The usual high will last from 1-3 hours. Your first time may last longer, potentially up to 7 hours. It's difficult to say, but the 1-3 hour time frame is most reliable. Also realize that you only stay at your peak for so long before coming down, so you could potentially have a 4 hour high, but you may just be buzzed at the 2 hour mark. Will I be safe to drive if I'm high? I wouldn't advice driving unless you are used to how being high feels. You want to be comfortable with it. If you don't feel safe driving, don't drive. If you are too high, it might not be a good idea to drive. Most people can drive pretty easy. There are actually studies that show people are better drivers when under the influence of marijuana. As long as you are aware of how the drug affects you, feel free to drive. Just as a little story, my first couple of times getting high I got this huge delay effect. Someone would say something to me and I'd go to say something in response, and then I'd see myself responding about five seconds later. Playing beer bong was very interesting because of the delay, it was like I would go to throw, and then see myself throw it five seconds later. It is safe to say that it would not be safe for me to drive with that kind of effect.
Aww shit, first time I smoked was with friends in a jacuzzi late at night. I was sleeping over at K's house (he lives with his grandparents), and K's dad walks up to us chillin' in a jacuzzi, and my friend C gets out and talks to him, and when he sits back into the jacuzzi he has this fat joint and I'm like "bro I ain't never smoked" and C's like "aw shit nig you haven't hung out with us in a while man moving made you all goodie goodie 'n shit". Four of us toked, then I basically sat there with it and smoked the rest of it while they all talked and shit. Feels good, just do it with friends in a controlled environment.
This is a newly published study, demonstrating increased prevalence of psychosis among people with no predisposition to it for those who had made use of marihuana. This is not old news.
Look, dude. You're coming into a forum full of well educated marijuana enthusiasts who are smart enough to ignore biased and incorrect studies based on skewed and incomplete data. Do you smoke weed? No? Then why are you posting here, trying to incite an argument? I simply do not understand why you're being such a dick. Stop trying to piss us off. I'm not pulling the "UGUGHUHGUH WEED IS THE BEST SMOKE WEED ERRDAY 420" card. There are health risks to smoking marijuana, just as much as there are health risks to drinking Diet Coke. That is to say, very minute and insignificant risks. You're not changing anyone's mind by bringing a narrow minded argument based of false data to a group of well educated stoners. I was fucking stoned as shit. I got couch lock so hard.
I think the thread title should be changed to something like "Smoking weed for the first time? Ask your questions here" The current title may deter people away. I'd like it if we closed first time threads because there are too many of them.

I've always wanted to try weed, but I would wait till I'm out of high school.
Probably not a bad idea Weed sure hasn't helped my academic life
I've found it hasn't hurt. I always use it as a reward. Like after a hard day at work, smoking would be a nice reward. As soon as I finish the homework, smoking would be the reward. The reward gives me an incentive to work harder, and to feel like my work pays off. I've also used it when writing up essays. I don't know if it makes them better or worse, but I do usually get good grades.
Hell sometimes I get stoned and just think for like essays and stuff. It's really useful actually.
well I need to prioritize more
But I had the chance to try weed, I so would.
Is there any decent american online headshop, like everyonedoesit.com?
I bet there is, how is that even a question
Okay so I am probably most likely gonna get banned for this but.. Stop. Just what the FUCK? Facepunch ACTUALLY has a section totally DEVOTED TO DRUGS? What the fuck are you guys thinking? I might not be a fan of some of the drugs that are talked about here but I like the people and I don't give a shit what they do as long as they don't hurt themselves and shit. Quit shit talking my bros, man, its disrespectful. And its harshing the mellow.
