My favourite sea critter is the snapping shrimp
I use to have a Tiger Pistol Shrimp. It went MIA and I never found it's body. Poor little guy. I could hear it snapping at night and he'd shoot at curious fish. The fish were to large to take down though.
All hail our squishy overlords!
I'm a marine biologist and I approve this message. I've seen a video of a male cuttle fish stealing a girl from the Alpha male cuttlefish by disguising himself as a female in heat. He seduced the alpha until he was comfortable letting "her" get close to him. Then he snatched up his damsel and fucked her right then and there.(mated moreso) Intellect beats brawns into the gene pool.
The cuttlefish is a spy.

I wish I was covered in 359DPI screens :frown:
I'm reminded of a certain (failed) character from the Venture Bros. I can't find a good clip to show though.
Crows and Ravens are also frighteningly smart. They have the biggest brain to body ratio of any bird (I think). [editline]25th November 2010[/editline] Someone should make a thread about them, too.
My favourite sea critter is the snapping shrimp
This one is pretty damn cool.
Male Cuttlefish can change colors to look female. They do this to make larger males have sex with them, and let them finish, leaving the females up for grab. :science:
The Mantis Shrimp demands a little god damned respect around here.

This guy can kill you.
That's a mantis shrimp, not a pistol shrimp. Mantis' have claws like a praying mantis with an incredible strike speed. People have had them crack tank glass while attacking their own reflection. That is a Tiger Pistol Shirmp. (the species I owned) They have the cavitation bubble claw that stuns prey. They are also symbiotic with Gobys, often found living in the same borrow. Go ahead, try being racist towards Cuttlefish. Make fun of them for being black, because guess what... now their white.
That is a pimp ass fish! I have learned so much.
[img_thumb]http://www.thatcutesite.com/uploads/2010/07/octopus_cute.jpg[/img_thumb] Octopus are cuter :3:
Octopodes aren't as cool as Cuttlefish.
Cuttlefish are also delicious.
Cuttlefish are also delicious.
You eat these magnificent creatures?!
You eat these magnificent creatures?!
How else is anybody going to gain their knowledge?
They bear a striking resemblance to Reapers.
You think cuttlefish can outsmart me? Maybe... *Sniff* Maybe... I've yet to meet one who can outsmart PISTOL SHRIMP.
They bear a striking resemblance to Reapers.
Ah yes. Cuttlefish.
You eat these magnificent creatures?!
I haven't ever eaten one, and I don't plan on it. Even if they are tasty. I would much rather keep one as a pet than eat it.
It's really good. I saw a cuttlefish when I was diving in the Philippines. Those things are awesome.
I've only seen their bones washed up on the shore, give them to my bird to chew on.
More like cuddlefish.
