The Great Gatsby
I read that in AP History junior highschool year. OH GOD THE ORDINARY AND BORING.
one of the greatest books ive ever read ever.
Lolita.
I don't normally post in piece of shit threads like this one in piece of shit subforums like this one but I'll do it this time because I'm such a nice guy. Books: There are no words to describe Naked Lunch. Bizzare, vulgar, disgusting, violent, incomprehensible, insane, hilarious, satirical, challenging and brilliant from start to finish. Burroughs is God. A seminal piece of beat literature and an absolute must-read. This and Naked Lunch are the best the movement(if you could call it that) has to offer. There is nothing out there like The Master And The Margarita. Read it. Everybody and their dog has read this but I don't care read it again. I absolutely detest sci-fi nerdshit, except when it's done by Dick. Compelling stuff. Honorable mentions: Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas(Hunter S. Thompson) Crash (J.G. Ballard) Empire Of The Sun (J.G. Ballard) 1984(George Orwell) Howl (Allen Ginsberg) Graphic novels: The best comic book ever published by either of the "big two", maybe even the best comic book ever published period. Didn't read any of Gaiman's books, but Sandman is god-tier. If Transmetropolitan is what Hunter Thompson would write if he gave a shit about comics, Preacher is what Burroughs would write if he gave a shit about comic books. One of the best horror comics of all time. Delano and Ennis' runs are probably the best, but it's all pretty great. Alan Moore's work on Swamp Thing(the book Hellblazer spun out of) also comes highly recommended. The only Batman story that matters and alonside Watchmen, the only superhero story that matters. Frank Miller has been dead to me ever since Holy Terror came out tho. The only proof anyone should ever need that there's much more to the comic book/graphic novel medium other than the trashy, juvenile and for the most part, completely irrelevant superhero junk. Honorable mentions: Everything I mentioned in the semi-descriptions of the other books(other than Holy Terror, fuck that shit) Animal Man(Grant Morrison, Chas Truog/Doug Hazlewood) Batman: The Killing Joke(Alan Moore, Brian Bolland) The Maxx(Sam Kieth) Blankets(Craig Thompson) A Contract With God(Will Eisner) So yeah, you should read the stuff I mentioned because it's good stuff(other than Holy Terror, fuck that shit) because if it wasn't good stuff I wouldn't mention it because I have fine taste in literature and don't waste time reading and discussing bad stuff. [editline]11th January 2012[/editline] Also get the recolored edition of the Sandman because it's vastly superior to the old one.
The 'His Dark Materials' trilogy by Philip Pullman is great.
Got it for $1.90 on Kindle :D
Good man. Enjoy.
This book is great and has a lot of power.
It's funny because I only recently found out what the real message of the book was. [editline]10th January 2012[/editline] Also, Ender's Game was a lot better when I first read it in middle school, since I didn't pay attention to any of the subtext. I read it again in high school and found myself wondering why I ever enjoyed it.
fucking love this book: pretty much anything vonnegut touches is golden though
House of Leaves. Do it. It is truly one of the most amazing books I've ever read.

Any leon uris book is a good buy. Historical fiction. Like the Haj or Trinity or exodus. Explains alot of the formation of the middle east, and other historical events. Good buys man!
This is a very good book. It's a juxtaposition of an architect in the worlds fair and a murderer who uses the worlds fair to find his victims. Very good book, it goes through the building of the chicago worlds fair in the early 1900s and late 1800s. It was a very elaborate fair. Sort of America's debut of stuff more amazing than the Eiffel tower (it was claimed to be the first structure built with 0 deaths). This is the fair that the ferris wheel was debuted at. Although it didn't work the first day, it was a sight to see. Historical fiction I'm pretty sure.
I know it's already been recommended in picture format, but The Stand is 1000+ pages of post-apocalyptic goodness. The character development is great, the storylines all come together, and it's just well-written in general. It's really a wonderful book and it'll keep you busy for quite a while.
OOooh ooh ooh read metro it has russians and machine guns and radiation and it's awesome And the 2034 is now in english :D
Well, if you're into war, then I seriously suggest this book: I enjoyed the book so much, I actually read it TWICE. I've never read another book more then once.

Also this is awesome.
This and Naked Lunch are the best the movement(if you could call it that) has to offer.
You're forgetting Allen Ginsburg's Howl.
There is nothing out there like The Master And The Margarita. Read it.
I concur. When the book has a naked witch riding a flying pig in the middle of the night I know I have stepped into something different. Very funny book.

One of the better Sci-Fi books I've read in a long while.

I actually think "The Dead" is the best thing he's ever written. Ulysses is at number two and his Fuck Fart Letters rank in at third place.
To NORA Dublin 8 December 1909 My sweet little whorish Nora I did as you told me, you dirty little girl, and pulled myself off twice when I read your letter. I am delighted to see that you do like being fucked arseways. Yes, now I can remember that night when I fucked you for so long backwards. It was the dirtiest fucking I ever gave you, darling. My prick was stuck in you for hours, fucking in and out under your upturned rump. I felt your fat sweaty buttocks under my belly and saw your flushed face and mad eyes. At every fuck I gave you your shameless tongue came bursting out through your lips and if a gave you a bigger stronger fuck than usual, fat dirty farts came spluttering out of your backside. You had an arse full of farts that night, darling, and I fucked them out of you, big fat fellows, long windy ones, quick little merry cracks and a lot of tiny little naughty farties ending in a long gush from your hole. It is wonderful to fuck a farting woman when every fuck drives one out of her. I think I would know Nora's fart anywhere. I think I could pick hers out in a roomful of farting women. It is a rather girlish noise not like the wet windy fart which I imagine fat wives have. It is sudden and dry and dirty like what a bold girl would let off in fun in a school dormitory at night. I hope Nora will let off no end of her farts in my face so that I may know their smell also. You say when I go back you will suck me off and you want me to lick your cunt, you little depraved blackguard. I hope you will surprise me some time when I am asleep dressed, steal over to me with a whore's glow in your slumberous eyes, gently undo button after button in the fly of my trousers and gently take out your lover's fat mickey, lap it up in your moist mouth and suck away at it till it gets fatter and stiffer and comes off in your mouth. Sometimes too I shall surprise you asleep, lift up your skirts and open your drawers gently, then lie down gently by you and begin to lick lazily round your bush. You will begin to stir uneasily then I will lick the lips of my darling's cunt. You will begin to groan and grunt and sigh and fart with lust in your sleep. Then I will lick up faster and faster like a ravenous dog until your cunt is a mass of slime and your body wriggling wildly. Goodnight, my little farting Nora, my dirty little fuckbird! There is one lovely word, darling, you have underlined to make me pull myself off better. Write me more about that and yourself, sweetly, dirtier, dirtier. JIM
Holy Shit the Kindle Edition of Ulysses is free on Amazon
Ringworld, if it hasn't been mentioned already.
