Who the FUCK said that
Kill them
I recently read Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell. I found it enjoyable.

Funny, I came on this thread thinking of posting this exact book. Btw lots of Lovecraft's stories exist as free eBooks.

King is a huge let-down, the later you get in his career. While his earlier works are sharp, concise, and brilliantly told, the farther down the path of his career you get, the longer and clumsier his books become. What he could have told in three hundred pages earlier in his career now takes him seven hundred, and the extra pages offer no real substance.
Cell is awesome.
So is The Dome and 11/22/63
Sounds a bit like a rip-off of "The Giver"

also a great book, btw.
As late as this is, let me assure you Shades of Grey, aside from the color aspect (and even then there's massive differences) is nothing like The Giver.
Its very humorous at times and it's a lot longer, so don't just disregard it because it may seem similar.
I would go as far as to say its better.

Made me realize just how much of a genius Wells is.

Can't believe 2001: A Space Odyssey hasn't been mentioned.

(It's a mock autobiography by a fake character, it's very very funny)

I've heard anything by Cormac McCarthy is really good, such as No Country For Old Men.

I'm trying to figure out why this image is saved as a gif. Anyway, good short story - what The Thing From Another Planet and John Carpenter's The Thing were based off.
Also, The Girl With The Dragoon Tattoo. I wouldn't bother with the two sequels, they're not as good.
Also, can't Kindles just read PDFs? Pretty sure you can get them free easily. That's what I did - but I have some lame Sony one.
Call of Cthulhu.

Yes but it's kinda weird. It zooms to fit the page width, which is usually way too far out and you have to zoom manually. Better just to convert epubs or whatever.
You can get a program that changes the files from PDF to a e-book file.
1984

http://www.2epub.com/ <- Much better.
Also, going to say Hunger Games again, because anyone who hasn't read it clearly doesn't know what they're missing.
Clockwork Orange, The Great Gatsby, 1984, American Psycho, Farenheit 451. The more popular ones I like
The Client, by John Grisham.
not wanting to be 'that guy' that brings this up when ever ender's game is mentioned, but Card's a fucking cunt
If you read the book and didn't realize the Buggers were an analogy for homosexuals, there might be something wrong with you.
RationalWiki's article on O.S. Card
If the fact that the plot of Ender's Game involves the annihilation of an insectoid race called the Buggers didn't tip you off, Card really, really doesn't like gay people. In fact, he's out of the closet about it, having voiced his opposition to same-sex marriage in a 2004 essay, "Homosexual 'Marriage' and Civilization," which is over five thousand words long and features this slice of batshit:[3]
“Now, there is a myth that homosexuals are "born that way," and we are pounded with this idea so thoroughly that many people think that somebody, somewhere, must have proved it.
In fact what evidence there is suggests that if there is a genetic component to homosexuality, an entire range of environmental influences are also involved. While there is no scientific research whatsoever that indicates that there is no such thing as a borderline child who could go either way.
Those who claim that there is "no danger" and that homosexuals are born, not made, are simply stating their faith.
The dark secret of homosexual society -- the one that dares not speak its name -- is how many homosexuals first entered into that world through a disturbing seduction or rape or molestation or abuse, and how many of them yearn to get out of the homosexual community and live normally.”
Yeah, though he's a good author, he's as batshit crazy as Michelle Bachmann.
Now, on topic, I recommend Next by Michael Crichton if you're a fan of his work.

It's a novel about a band of abandoned children.
It's pretty good, one of the best pieces of brazillian literature.
You're like this friend of mine who claims he hates The Beatles, but when one of their more popular songs comes on, a song he's actually listened to before, he says "well actually I like that song, but none of the rest".
You like those books because they're the ones you know, so why not try and get to know some more? You're not guaranteed to like every book you try to read, but I bet you that 9 times out of 10 you'll find yourself engrossed and entertained.
And most people who say they 'hate reading' are just intimidated by it because they lack confidence in their reading skills. You don't really hate reading, you just don't think you're any good at it and that makes you feel bad. But don't feel bad, how could you possibly expect to be good at something you never practice? Just read some more, all things become easier and more approachable when you have more experience with them.
That just blew my mind. And honestly, makes sense. Creepy!
I would have to recommend reading John Dies at the End. Easily one of the best books I have read in a long time.
THIS. The movie is being finished up also, so expect to see that in theaters in the next half year.
Also, The Coldfire Trilogy by C.S. Friedman has an excruciatingly phenomenal magic system, so if you're into dark fantasy this is a must.

Jeff somers writes some pretty cool books.
The digital plague, the eternal prison, the electric church are all good books. They're very deus-ex/perfect dark like. I enjoyed them, good reads.
Along with hammerjack by marc d giller.

No HG Wells works mentioned yet? I am horribly ashamed.
