• Why pointing out significant numbers is stupid
One could argue that they mean a whole lot more as cultural symbols than as mathematical ones. As mathematical symbols they're stripped of every bit of extra information and the only thing that remains is their exact definition. As cultural symbols they retain their thousands of years of history and everything they're associated with. The position is called 69 because of the very complex events that led to 6 and 9 resembling each other, except upside down. Math wouldn't care if the symbols looked like baboons and rainbows.
I guess, but if someone's pointing out what their post-count is, or something similar, then a number will retain its mathematical meaning whatever the symbols being used. I don't see why pointing out numbers with pretty trivial meanings should be pointed out. Sure how the numbers 6 and 9 came to look how they are has some history but some people point it out every time they encounter the number 69 and most likely they won't be thinking of how the numbers came to look that way, just that they do. On a somewhat unrelated note it seems that often, people who point out 42 haven't even read the Hitch-hiker's Guide in the first place.
You see hundreds of numbers every day. There's 7 numbers on this page alone at the time of posting, and over 100 on the first page of the General Discussion thread listing. The chance of one of them being 1337 or 69 or 42 or whatever stupid shit number you think is hilarious to have seen is pretty high. So shut up about it I guess e - omg 30000 posts!
lol did your friends on the schoolbus make you feel aloof and superior or what
