Some albums are very hard rock, others push into metal, Judas Priest is still awesome.

You need other bands like AC/DC, KISS and Aerosmith.

All I have to say, deal with it. Why they are overplayed? Because they are popular. If that band pops in my head, I write about it. The idea of this thread is to bring more people in to old rock scene, because old rock was the best rock. These so called overplayed bands are the best start for new people.

Van Halen is more rock imo, and Metallica doesn't have heavy drums at all. All the drumming is either your standard thrash drumming at best or something simpler.
