Is that the movie where the epic quote came from? "You can't handle the truth!"
Yeah, for the most part. So don't get the idea in your head that the only thing in the Army is Infantry and ground fighting. There's a lot more careers within that Army a person can be placed in.
Ahaha, 'Serve his country.'
Tell him he's a fucking idiot.
Ahaha, 'Serve his country.'

How so?
Mind your own business and let him do what he wants to do. Free country.
No offense to you, just saying that everyone should do what they want to do without people making threads about it.
Ahaha, 'Serve his country.'

Because actually wanting to give back to the country that gave you the rights of freedom, speech, religion and such by serving in the Military forces is such a dumbfucking idea. Yeah, this guy is a real fucking idiot for doing something that most average American citizens would never want to do. What a dumbass

Don't mind him, he's just trying to be "Hard" and "Anti-Establishment."

Get out.
Army training is pretty good, you can never know when you will need it. So if he wants to, let him go. Unless he goes into warzone where he can die.
I cant believe what my friend is doing?
I don't know. Can you? :v:
Lol politics in the military, all presidents have (well, except obama). Just let him do it, maybe he wants to do it for his country, money, maybe just to tell some stories to his kids when hes older. It's really nobody's business except him.

The way we see it in the Netherlands, the army is just another career line. Not much of a national symbol like in the US. I think a country would benefit more from good doctors and businessmen than soldiers. It's typically American to instantly relate "doing something for your country" to "join the army".
He won´t be on the frontline genius. He´ll become an officer
With that law degree he basically gets to skip having to be infantry, gets promoted a shit ton, and will likely serve as a lawyer in military court. When he gets out not only will he have an impressive resume but he'll be able to say he served our country.
Did he do ROTC during college? That would make a lot of sense because if you want to join JAG (The lawyers of the army) you need to be a commissioned officer. I really doubt he just decided to join on impulse.
I just got off the phone with him now, I asked him "so tell me, why is it that you wanna join the Army with such a useful skill on your other hand"? (I was pretty franc)
He said "I like the whole idea of war-zone and in general fighting for a cause. I grew up around wars and violence and have been using rifles since the age of 13 so war does not scare nor intimate me me. I want to serve my country for many years then when I am out do all that boring stuff when I'm older, right now I wanna do something with my life that is brag-able and when or if ever in later years I am ever questioned by people or even family/kids I can truly say, yes, I protected the United States of America."
I typed it out word for word.

I think he would die fast in a warzone. Real heroes never brag

That's nice.
Just let him do what he wants

Aren't Humans already free?
are you telling me that he should be happy that USA let's him stay free? shouldn't he be free either way or another? so he should be happy that USA lets him be free? is it their choice to decide if their people is free or not? :psyduck:
Yeah, i like how people saying that joining the army is protecting america, more like doing the bidding of whatever the corrupt government thinks can earn them money.

Speaking of hero's, today the designer of the Kalashnikov, otherwise known as the world's most lethal weapon, was today named a Hero of Russia.

There are tons of careers in the military. It isn't crazy, if that is what he enjoys he should do it. You can be a lawyer in the army, it's called being a JAG Officer.
People like you make me angry thinking going from a "law degree" to the military is downgrading or a lesser job. Being in the military (British, American, whatever) is a honor and if anybody says anything other then that they can go shove it.
The Kalashnikov is by no means the most lethal weapon, though perhaps the most prolific firearm design.
Just because he says he's joining the military doesn't mean he's off to the frontline infantry. The military offers a lot more jobs than just that.

It kinda is, lawyer to army-man is not downgrading?

Hey, that's a picture of him I don't have! Thanks.
It's his choice. Maybe its pride, or just wants to do something exciting like the others said in the
thread. I laughed at "Say your username out loud to him"
Maybe he just wants to live a little before getting locked down as a lawyer for the rest of his life.
It kinda is, lawyer to army-man is not downgrading?
You can be a lawyer in the army. There's basically every civilian career in the army.
I totally agree. I cannot see what the American Army benefits at all for him?
Training?
Being a lawyer won't exactly help you beat the fuck out of people. It'll help you get around the punishment though.
