The further forward your red dot is (if it isn't a form of scope), the easier it is to eye up to it and get target acquisition, leaving you with a better field of view, too. A good reason not to put it right at the front is weight distribution, it would increase your weapon's moment of inertia way too much, crunching your ability to switch targets quickly. It's why you see special forces sometimes mount their Aimpoints right at the end of their upper when operating in close quarters, but also why hardly anyone else does it.
This is not true on my AR-15, too far forward and sight acquisition becomes hard, it's good to find a balance.

As someone who owns a CA LWRC, I can assure you it's not terrible(It's also not $550, subtract $125). The sportline version may be, I don't know though because I don't own that one. I generally don't understand why people like to dump on CA, my first gun was a CA MP5SD2 which I still have from over six years ago and it still works fine. The only time it failed on me was a few months after I purchased it, and it was because the fuse blew (13 year old new guy mind couldn't comprehend or figure this out). Back to the LWRC though, is it worth $425? Fuck no, but I'm impulsive and she looks good. The "Ranger" there though is a total ripoff.
There is one thing though which I just remembered, the LWRCs love to rust on certain pieces, as in the second the outer coating starts to get worn and the gun's exposed to moisture it'll start rusting up a bit. That does get annoying and it's a pain, easy enough to get the rust off atleast.

Okay good to know. However, I'm inclined to think that you've had two incredibly lucky guns, because every CA I've owned or encountered has been total garbage. My G36K burned out in less than 10,000 rounds on a 9.6v with a fuse, whereas my Galaxy MP5K's are at probably 20,000+ with most of those on 11.1v lipos.
Other CA's I've encountered were an Armalite AR-15 that exploded with ease, several MP5's that forgot they were supposed to shoot instead of break, and several other pieces of junk that have been sure to disappoint.
Throw on their ridiculous price levels and I can easily see why they've almost gone out of business.
Yeah, their prices are disgusting I completely agree there. And I've heard plenty of CA horror stories which is why I tend to keep away from them now and imported a G&P recently. I have a fairly mixed opinion with CA's as I also own a CA M14 which is four years old and started to quit on me a few months ago, I don't know how long an airsoft gun's supposed to last but I think that's long enough for $220 purchase at the time. I might be lucky, I really don't know as I haven't really had a horror story with them but again I have heard of plenty. With LWRC though, what might have helped increase the longevity of its life is that I disabled the blowback to increase the rof... which increased by a whopping two, bringing the rof to 16.
