May sound stupid but I'm actually learning the notes on the fretboard and other scales other than "da box". Also some music theory.
Thanks Franke for showing me those sites :smug:
Now, how the hell can I remember modes?
I remember the staff easily(FACE and Every Good Boy Did Fuck) but how in the name of God I'm supposed to remember dorian and dunno wat shit.
Modes are basically just the Major Scale in different keys,
C - Ionian
D - Dorian
E - Phygian
F - Lydian
G - Mixolydian
A - Aeolian
B - Locrian
I COULD be wrong.
I need some songs to play. I'm an intermediate guitar player (playing an acoustic Yamaha FG750s) but the reason I'm not getting any better is because I don't have any songs to play. I'm learning stairway to heaven and Little Lion Man.
I know Wish You Were Here by heart, and I can play One by metallica, solo and all.
I'm not looking for any seriously chord heavy songs, but if they are mostly chords, I'd at least like them to have a unique strumming pattern.
Oh, and I have a capo, in case you wanted to know that.

"Just memorize them by name + what number they are. Memorize the names for if you ever have to, and remember the number because usually that's what most people refer to them as (once you're out of serious music theory)." Quote from my dad, TX State University Professor.

That would be correct in terms of C major, but it's a very simplistic and largely incorrect way to look at it. A more correct way would be to say
1st - Ionian
2nd - Dorian
3rd - Phrygian
4th - Lydian
5th - Mixolydian
6th - Aeolian
7th - Locrian
makes more sense that applies to every major scale
Just finished some recording with the band (Drums tracked for 3 songs) :D
After writing new songs with the band, the first thing I do the same night is open guitar pro and notate it, vocal melody included.
Does anyone else do this? I find it rather relaxing.
I should put some more work into scales, I've just been learning the ones I've been told

Yeah that's what I do. That's just how I write: mess around on guitar/instruments, when I do something I like I write it into Guitar Pro until I have the whole song done.
It's just a good way to see how the song will sound as a whole without bothering with messy recordings.
(After using this method for a little while I found out some Pink Floyd albums were done this way too apparently :v:)

It's also fun to make drums so it doesn't feel empty.

Maybe I'm spoiled, but I can't stand MIDI or just-better-than samples in stuff like Guitar Pro or Finale anymore. I have no ideas how anyone uses it to get a feel for how something sounds, it's all too tinny for me to take seriously.
I do all of my notation in something else and just get all the parts sequenced, then if I want a tabs or scores or whatever I port the midi to the respective program and print it, that's it.
Here my stratocaster i build .. years ago now i want to make it look good again
Well it depends on how out of tune it was, the neck could get bent
Not all that out of tune, I'd say they'd only be about one.. note or whatever out.
EADGBE is standard IIRC
So it'd be DGCEAG at worst...
Which sounds like some kinda metal tuning to me :v:
It could bow the neck a little, you should tighten the truss rod
I'll look into it.

DGCEAG is D-standard (1 step down) tuning.
Also, your strings are probably all over the place in terms of tuning. They don't all lose equivalent amounts of tension in tandem, after all.

Personally I don't think it's a massive problem, your guitar isn't going to be unplayable or anything.

Nice, I like the strat the way it is. Assuming the paint loss is from wear and tear, it's cool imo
I've got tons of songs made with GuitarPro. Thought I'd share one of them:

Still WIP but I like it. Feedback appreciated :)
If you want I can upload them all.

More importantly, anyone know if the Framus sorella 59 is any good, I might be able to get on for under €400/€500,-.
I would primarily use it for blues and maybe a little Jazz.
holy shit.
i'm actually proud i'm a romanian right now...

fucking speechless.
if he'd work a bit on the rhythm it'd be perfect.
Remember kids, recording a $5000 amp with a $20 microphone is like recording a $20 amp with a $5000 microphone.

Just wondering, I noticed that Cynic's lead guitarist/singer doesn't have a headstock on his guitar. Has he just done that because he can or does it make a difference to anything? :v:

they're fucking amazing guitars.
The main reason behind Ned Steinberger's original headless design was to reduce the weight and improve the balance of the instrument. You had 6 to 8 inches of wood plus extra string length plus metal tuning machines hanging out past the nut. Ned's idea was to flip that around and keep the mass on the body. It also eliminated much of the excess string past the nut and behind the bridge saddles, which also improved tuning stability because there was less string to stretch and slip.
He uses a Steinberger headless guitar. They pretty much have their own thing going on, good travel guitars but they're not designed as cheap pieces of shit. They're seriously good guitars provided you're into that sort of thing
[editline]28th January 2011[/editline]
Like Peavy said, Strandberg is another example of a headless builder, but Paul Masdival definitely plays a Steinberger
Figured it would be something along those lines, thanks guys :v:

whoops sorry man I'm high and got strandberg and steinberger mixed up :downs:
What is the technique you all stuggle the most with?
Just asking out of curiosity.
Sweep picking... lol
Nah seriously, for me it's doing stuff like tapping.
Everything else is easy as hell
everything

I find tapping piss easy, but I sure as hell can't do sweep picking.
Hmm.
