I myself have no solid ideas yet but I hope my next school is gonna fix that.
I already know all the techniques I need for playing what I want but my speed is horrible, only 180-210 BPM max if I practice a lot :ohdear: Stupid Technical Death Metal and it's high bpm.
Playing what specifically at 180BPM? Whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, triplets, sixteenth notes? Without context it's pretty inconclusive especially seeing how many people get confused, like one guy in the CC who claimed to have wrote a song at 220BPM. That's may have been what he sent the tempo at, but he was really just playing in 4/4 at 110BMP and the metronome was clicking at every eighth note as apposed to every quarter note.
When I write something I usually come with a beat in my head. Then I make that beat in GuitarPro(the drums). The the guitar kind of comes naturally. Sometimes.

16th notes.

I usually sing something first because I find it easier to write that way.
My songwriting process is "Yeah this song is about the depression after war so it's going to be in E flat minor yah"
My friend thinks much like this
"Is this song happy"
yes - E standard
no - Drop D

There should be an additional thought
"Is the song supposed to be evil or choir-like?"
(Answer: C-Standard)
Lol those tunings ain't got nothing to do with major/minor.
No bruises but I almost knocked out my front teeth, when mucking around with my bass, and the strap slipped off. The headstock flew directly into my face. Also after playing the crappy school bass like a maniac (that's my playing style) my calluses are a mile thick, almost thick enough to play on Steve Harris' bass.
My song writing goes much like this. I muck around in b minor (I have a five string, this is the easiest scale to work with for me and I can't be assed to retune) until I make a riff that I like (often stolen from Doctor Who or Iron Maiden) and I work with that until I get bored. Rinse and repeat.
But I love doing improv, I can play for hours just improvising.
My songwriting technique is basically "yeah, I'll make a song about (some subject), it'll be awesome."
Then I get sidetracked and start doing something else.

I just feel that C-standard has that cathedral-like feel to it when you throw enough gain at it. Sounds pretty awesome to me.
I was going to finish writing my song, but I had a fit of me playing the piano. So I played piano all of last week and learned a song :D.
I might upload it later if I can find a better recorder than my laptop mic. It's a Beethoven piece.
Is there anyone else who plays piano?
[editline]my_anus_reaks_of_brut[/editline]
It turns out my only other option is a decent mic from the late 80s early 90s. I guess that'll work.

I used to play piano if that counts for anything. Forgot absolutely everything, and can no longer even locate middle-C without using my guitar as a reference :saddowns:
I did keyboard back in primary school then started bass when I went to high school, after a year I went back to piano and found it boring after 6 months so I went back to guitar/bass. I forgot what I learned but I do remember I could play the first part of apologize by timberland and the vocal notes of still alive from portal :v:
Since my computer is being slow and laggy due to backing up my hard drive and downloading something pretty big, I decided it would be a good idea to record some keyboard drumming. To add to all of the screwiness, youtube doesn't like the encoding or something.

Maybe I'll do one of those things where I tape myself playing a bunch of instruments and combine them. I'd have to play something cool though.

Meh, I'll show something better when this stuff finishes.

c for cathedral
Might start taking bass lessons soon, having a lot of fun with it. Sad thing is, id be the only student at my music school that plays bass, and one of the few that plays drums
Just ordered the last necessary item for my custom guitar, the ferrules.

I though you were gonna use a PC keyboard(i don't have a midi).
But airdrumming on a drum track like this one is satisfying and you can learn to coordinate your movements. At first it was like impossible to maintain the rhythm with the cymbals/hi-hat but after a while I got used to it.

This is just annoying. Since I've bough the acoustic (like 2 1/2 years ago) the G string keeps breaking faster than the others. Not in the way that it snaps, but like this:

The wire is breaking and unwinding from the string. Some strings(like GHS) last more but they do break after a while. What's causing this and what can I do about it?
Try different strings (brands)?
I believe it's erosion and then it gets worse over time.
Going to school today to record my piano piece, might get to do it in front of my orchestra class.
God damn it.
So getting rid of the last holdovers of how I used to pick I finally started to stop...am making an effort to stop using my knuckles to mute, particularly since I managed to give myself a blister on whatever knuckle first from the nail on the ring finger (R 4 distal.) This shit hurts.
Just discovered somethings disturbing :ohdear:
I can play better with spaghetti strings.
[editline]15:26PM[/editline]
Well not disturbing but weird.
And spaghetti strings as in strings with low tension.

It's free at my local guitar store.
But only if you're a regular from what I understand.

Heh, lucky. I read up that £40 is pretty reasonable.
I believe the price includes doing everything to the guitar.
[editline]3rd February 2011[/editline]
They also said this includes new strings.

For the most part it does. Except nut replacement, as far as I know.
