Goodbye Carvin.
Hello ESP.
What ESP do you have?
That looks like an over sized chapman stick to me
That's because it is an oversized Chapman Stick.
Also,

Your image is broken sir.
Betterer?
That's the son of the oversized chapman stick I take it?
I´m thinking about buying a new amp soon. Right now I have a Microcube and it´s allright I guess, but it´s only like 2 watts so I can´t really get a lot of power from it. That and it doesn´t have an EQ, which really limits the sounds I can get from it.
Right now I´ve been thinking about the Roland Cube 40XL. I´ve played a 20XL at a guitar store and I quite liked it, it was like the Microcube but better in every way. It would be a pretty safe choise because I know how Rolands sound, and I guess 40 watts would certainly be enough for band practise, if we ever get a band up, or even for light gigging.
I´ve heard good things about Peavey Vypyrs, so I guess a Vypyr 30 would be a good choise too(?). It seems to have a fuckton of features, at least. It costs 20€ more but has 10 watts less, though, but I don´t really give a shit about 20€ and I don´t think 10 watts makes such a huge difference. As long as it sounds good.
So which would be better? I´m also open to other good amps in the ~200€ price-range. They need to be versatile, though. I play anything from clean arpeggio stuff to 70s prog rock to doom metal.
Solid-state or tube?

Anyway, I'm not too sure about this one being 1 watt, but the 5 watt (HT-5) is incredibly loud and has a really good sound, both clean and distorted. http://www.thomann.de/gb/blackstar_ht_1r_combo.htm

If you want metal sounding distortion then you need to get a distpedal too.. I'd recommend the Maxon OD-808.
what other than an amp of course (hurr durr) what do i need to do to my guitar or equipment do i have to get to get that "Electric" sound as opposed to amplified acoustic?
Distortion, most amps have it built-in though, it's the gain knob
any amps that have that, that are reasonably loud for about 100-120 usd
Line 6 Spider III I suppose....

spider 3's are no longer made
i actually have the opportunity to buy like an amp for 30 bucks, but i dont know wattage and if it had distortion ect. kids gonna give me the info tomorrow
do most amps have distortion built in?

That seems like a decent amp. It sure sounds good, but it doesn´t seem that versatile. Anything about the two I suggested?
Yes.

Don't know much about Roland. Peavey is generally good so I'd give that a try.
Is a bad habit that I never ever use open chords when I'm playing my electric with the band, or on my own for that matter?

A friend of mine has one but the sound is too digital-y for my taste compared to many other amps but that's completely subjective.

I used an older model of that amp for ages a while back, if you're just practising at home I can thoroughly recommend it

Almost every guitar amp has gain/distortion built in, but that doesn't mean they can all get as distorted.
For something that can play mostly hard rock and assorted metal, in that price range, you want a Peavey Vypyr. Pretty sure I mentioned it a while back when you asked what guitar to get, and I always recommend this as a starter amp for pretty much everybody (the exception being people mostly playing clean stuff, in which case a Vox is better).
The Vypyr 15 falls right in your price range if I'm not mistaken, and if you can afford to up the ante a little the Vypyr 30 has many more features.
Oh god don't get the spider, you'll regret it later. Peavey Vypyrs are SOOOOO much better, and theres so much you can fuck about with on them.

They're pretty solid for the price. Just don't get the big ones, they're a total waste of money.
$300+ on another solid-state Vypyr (60+ watts), or save up a little longer and spend $500 or so on a 6505+ combo, which is all-tube.
I don't understand why everyone says Spider sucks? I had a Spider II a few years ago and it was alright for a second amp.
yeah my friend in school recommends spider and most of their equip so im gonna disregard tommys statement

Please for the love of god play it before you buy it.
I have yet to hear one get a tone that I liked.
Except their Spider III (or IV, I forget) HD tube head, but that was also well over a thousand dollars. For the same price or lower, I could have gotten an amp I liked more.
The Spiders just seem too...flat. Too bland. And I don't like the distortion on it, either.
You might, though I honestly have my doubts.
i listened to the previews on the site and just spent about 20 minutes combing through various youtube reviews.
honestly im looking for value over quality of sound. as long as it sounds decent i dont care. i cant pay any more than 100-120 anyway
I just played my first real gig, it was for charity and such. I have never felt so ALIVE, people stopped me to shake my hand, someone even bought me a diet cola. :v:
