My fucking dad. So I was restringing my shitty acoustic guitar, when suddenly the high E peg flies out and I have no idea where it went. I look for about an hour with my dad, (I'm supposed to be taking this guitar to my friend's house tomorrow to practice) when he's all like "well, if there's no other option", goes into his room and pulls out a fucking $3000 Ovation he's been saving for my birthday. Jesus fucking christ. Still haven't gotten over it.
One of these:

Are those nylon or steel strings?
Are those nylon or steel strings?
Nylon.
Ahh, I have the shittiest luck.
Went to a guitar convention in Gateshead today, and I paid £10 to get in. While I was there, I saw a Fender Blues Junior for £275. The guy that was selling it had put new tubes in on the day of the show, and was willing to give me some replacement tubes as well. Fucking bargain. So, I managed to heckle the guy down to £260, then I realised that I only had £250 in my wallet, and he wouldn't accept that. I went looking around, and saw a mate there that lent me £10 to buy the amp. So, I went back and this kid is sitting there playing Metallica songs through it. Metallica through a fucking Fender Blues Junior. So, I hang around for about 10 minutes, waiting for him to leave so I can buy the amp. Eventually, he gets up, and I walk over, cash in hand, ready to make my purchase. I could not believe it when this kid's dad buys the amp. Basically, I was just left standing there, open-mouthed with cash in hand. In other words, looking like a tit.
Fuck my luck.

Arent those like atleast 400€ normally
We cut down a load of wood today (Oak) and I was wondering what you would need to do to the wood to make it suitable to build a guitar out of it? If it's something I can do with limited equipment, then I'll do it.
Dave Mustaine used .88mm Jim Dunlop Tortex's, and now uses Dunlop Tortex .73mm
Also, har har at Dave's description of his Signature GHS strings:

welp time to stop using .73s
Hey everyone i have a ltd ec-100, it has a TOM bridge and on the B and high e string, the saddles won't move in enough towards the neck to intonate properly, they wont go any further. Is there anything i can do to fix it? will new strings help? Thank you.

Need to get better at bass but im focusing so much on drums so I can record this summer

So does anyone have experience in building guitars?

Yes, my dad and I are getting the custom we made together painted right now.
Anyone here ever stained their fretboard? I want to get rid of these inlays and fret marks from my converted fretless.
DADGAD tuning is fun as hell, currently picking up the start of Drifting by Andy McKee. The fun thing is it sounds good if your a beginner to guitar and sounds amazing if your an intermediate.
Well.. Im too busy to keep playing, I've been playing for about 4 years now and I'm getting ready to sell some of my gear.
I have
1 - ESP LTD Viper-400 w/ EMG 81/85's
2- Crate GFX1200h Head
3- Behringer 4x12 (MEH)
How much do you think I could get per item? The ESP is flawless with the exception of a small dent in the back of the neck.
Don't stop playing. D:
Im going to keep playing, but I need the extra money.
Ill have a 15watt Line6 and a Squier Stagemaster still after I sell this.. plus 3 Acoustic guitars.

You need to kiln it or let it air dry (which takes about 2 years)
Go to a lumber yard and see if they'll kiln it and plank it for you. Some of them will do it for you. If you can't find anyone then you'd be better off just buying some wood, it's really not that expensive
Bought a G&L Stratocaster the other day. It's an absolute fucking bombshell.
A little history on G&L for those that don't know.. when Leo Fender founded Fender he knew shit all about guitar, but he built them anyway and after he sold Fender decades later he moved on to start a company called G&L (George Fullerton and Leo Fender) where he finally got to step outside the standards of of "Fender Strats" and 'improve' what he thought needed work on Strats.
The result are the G&L Stratocasters..
Welp, here's mine..

Best £450 I ever spent.
I've never heard a more thick, stratty sounding guitar.. even from real american fenders.
The best part? This thing is made from Swamp ash in Indonesia and it toppes some American made strats i've played.
The Fullterton pickups were designed in the Fullterton Fender Cali factory as was all the hardware and wiring. They're the chunkiest pick ups I've ever used.. never heard such a tone before.
Also the 2 tone pots are individual treble and base controls instead of an over-all tone control I can manually drop the bass, treble or both from my signal providing for some very interesting tones.
I'm in love with it.
As an added "win", on Tuesday I'm buying a second hand 2002 Mexican Standard Strat in Midnight wine, Maple fingerboard with all stock electronics. Mint condition 9 years after manufacture.. for the lovely almost-theft price of...
£200.

Blues Jams with Rain in the background, whoop whoop.
I am thinking of building a project stratocaster...

Like this but Rosewood neck and all black hardware and plastic.
I'm looking forward to getting this Mexi strat. I kind of want to buff it up a little. It's all stock but I want to add in graphtech saddles and replace the pickups with either a set of Texas Specials or Barenuckle Sultans.. both great pick ups but I'm not sure. I love the distinctive sound of the Texas Specials but the Sultans are just raw Strat tone through and through.

Also this is essentially what I'm getting on Tuesday..

I personally don't like light necks like the ones in the picture above. I generally prefer darker, browner necks. Dunno why, just personal preference I guess.

Andy McKee would be insanely hard to play
[editline]7th March 2011[/editline]
I've been afraid to play my guitar for a week because I can't tell if the neck is bowed or not
There was no string rattle before I changed my strings, and there isn't heaps of excess string on the machine heads so I'm not sure why there is rattling
I cut one or two strings when there was tension on them, one by accident. I hope I didn't cause this
My hands really arent used to fender strats necks, my hand cramps after about 2 songs and i cant really get around on it..
Also, birthday this Sunday, getting the MT2 and the GE7. Oh, and a fuckload of money :)

And name a indy rock guitarist who doesnt use an Orange amp :colbert:
Oh shiiiiiiiiit.. thanks to this guys work he can't make our meet on tuesday for me to check out his prestine 8 year old Mexi Strat so he's coming up to my house in a few hours and I'll get a chance to play around with it and then hand over £200 for it :D sooooo excited.

From my experiance fender necks are some of the most comfortable nexts to play.
i own a maverick f1 and the neck on it is renowned for being thinner than any ibanez neck. cramps my hand up like nobodys business.

It feels so fluid playing a fender neck and surprisingly the glossier the neck the better it tends to sound. I prefer maple fingerboards of rosewood too but there are some nice RW strats I like but if I had to choose, maple all the way.
