I play too much guitar to post on fp now and days though, so whoever makes the next thread, congratulations
I love pissing around with compressors and reverb.

My vibrato is angelic.. I love this fucking guitar.

You post too much saying you play too much to play too much to post.
Also whoever makes it maybe copy the rig pics into the OP or something
What. Everybody has heard this:

Oh that's Knopfler.
Okay in that case him and Stevie Ray Vaughn are the only guitarists that I really LIKE that use single-coil pickups exclusively.
Oh, I'm not very familiar with the english terminology. I've only heard the pronunciation. What about open chords?
That's okay I was really pointing it out because that's a VERY common mistake. Even people fluent in English often spell that wrong. It's called a Barre chord because the person to make it popular's last name was Barre. It just happens to work nicely with the fact that your fingers kinda cross the frets and strings like bars.
What are you talking about fool.
Gilmour uses single coils.
Coil split isn't exactly the same as single coil
No, he's used the in-line humbuckers on most Pink Floyd albums. Pretty sure he still has in-line 'buckers on his Black Strat, and a good chunk of On An Island was recorded with a Gretsch...Duo, I think? Some Gretsch with normal humbuckers.
Also, almost all of the solos and most of the other parts of every song on The Wall was recorded with an old Les Paul.
I'm a total Gilmour fanboy, right down to wanting the book his guitar tech put out...except I'm too lazy to read through all his ramblings so I'd rather there be an e-book version of it.
On the topic of single coils used in metal, I think I'll just leave this here

And a Tele to boot.
I love using this as a "FUCK YOU ANYTHING CAN SOUND LIKE ANYTHING IN THE RIGHT HANDS" defense.
And that's pish, cranking the amp on any pickup is going to sound like ass (or like that).. that doesn't make it good for it. You lose all tonal quality when you crank it that much.
Not saying you flat out can't use a single coil for metal but beyond a certain point the amp takes over the pickup and it no longer matters.. except a single won't be as powerful without a plethora of pedals infront of them.
Speaking of some single coil-ey goodness, I just recorded this and slapped a bit of 200hz reverb on it.

Hear how defined and "single coiley" it is? That Wintersun guy is just overdistorting it and it just becomes nothing, no definition at all. Just noise.
Well that was a good laugh.
Jari Maenpaa is a VERY articulate player. Clean playing may be very unforgiving for proper fretting but distortion is very unforgiving for poor playing. Bump a string, miss a fret, accidentally let go and nail a natural harmonic instead of the note you meant? With distortion that sounds like a clusterfuck of noise embedded within what once was your solo.
Do you greatly seem to prefer clean playing, light overdrive, and bluesy kinds of music? It certainly seems so. And that is a completely valid opinion - hell, for anything with a guitar that isn't metal or hard rock I GREATLY prefer that same kind of bluesy sound...albeit with a little more OD/Distortion but still. Don't let your personal opinion cloud what is and is not fact.
I went ahead and took pictures anyway.
Double Muff - actually not really anything like the big muff, it's like two very creamy overdrives wired in series, ridiculous tone. I crank it and then roll back the volume on my strats for the nicest gain tone ever.
So what are your settings on the double muff? Thinking of buying one at the end of the month and I'd love to know what sounds good. I have a MIM Strat aswell so I should sound pretty similar to what you hear.

These are generally the settings I use on it, I know it's crude and stupid but hey visuals are great! :p

That's it just before being fully cranked, so when you roll the volume down on your guitar it will become really clean or you can get a gainy bite, then full volume will be almost fuzz/sustainer like.
It's my favorite pedal as far as tone-shaping goes.

Argh.. I just priced a gold bridge, machine heads, jack cover and strap buttons for import from the USA.
£110 for all of that. It's not a bad price, it's just a lot for cosmetics.. but I want the gold hardware on it.
Other customizations I'm making are adding either Tex-Mex or Texas Special pickups, they're essentially the same.. just depends what I can get cheaper.
This is the guitar I'm modifying.

Well, shit. I was adjusting the string height on my guitar earlier, and the little piece of metal you use to do that slipped out of my fingers and fell into the little vent on top of my amp. Will that do any damage to the speaker or cause any static or noise? I can't get it out, and I'm hesitant to open it up.

This is the same model as my amp. It fell in one of the two in front.
The action on my acoustic is way too high, like 6mm at the twelfth fret. The neck is straight, so I'm not messing with the truss rod. Sanding down the saddle is easy enough, right? Just sand it down enough to lower it but not so much that the frets start buzzing?

Buy one from a music shop and test it on that first, take in your current saddle and ask to see theirs and buy the closest size to yours to have as a back up. Make sure you file the bottom of that, the part that slots into the bridge, not the top where the strings rest :p

Hey we have the same amp. It shouldn't cause any problems but it'd be better to get it out lol
Alrite, I took off the back panel with a screwdriver, and the amp seems to be working just fine. Hey lasgunz, do you happen to get a lot of background noise on the "UK metal" setting? It seems to give me a lot of static even when I'm not turned up that loud.

I don't use anything after the AC30 amp model, I don't like hi-gain or distortion so I couldn't really tell you but I can tell you that most amps, especially this price range will be buzzy or static-y when kicked into hi-gain distortion, it's just the nature of these kinds of amps.
A tip though, hold down the tuner button and while still holding it turn the closest effects knob (the one that controls U-Vibe, Treble Boost etc) all the way to the right and then back just a little, it has a built in noise gate that you can manually adjust to kill some noise though remember the higher it is the less sustain and 'quite' notes the amp will put out. I tend to leave a bit of static but only really quietly.
Read the User Manual through, they're actually pretty diverse little amps and it's worth getting to know their features in and out.
Using a humidifier in acoustic guitars makes a noticeable difference.
I haven't used one in mine for a loong time, and after 5 days of refilling each night, my guitar already sounds a lot better.
My $100 Yamaha acoustic guitar is fine enough for me :colbert:
Does anyone know if the Boss acoustic simulator is too digital?
How close to the AC30-sound is the VT-series?

googled it, so one of the guitarists from slipknot uses a telecaster, never knew. to be honest i never watch video's by slipknot, they hurt my eyes. please note that i'm not saying you can't use them in metal, it's just not done a lot.
ahaha a telecaster with emg pickups.
Just two more days until my guitar comes! Wooooo!

No need to go defensive like that, i just gave you an example.
okay okay, i just don't like when people downs me

but stil a telecaster with emg's. it would match up with my strat with active pickups.

I actually have the ~$200 one that goes up to 60 watts, and it's awesome. I didn't know about the noise gate feature, so thanks!

John 5 also plays a Tele, albeit entirely equipped with humbuckers. Three of them.
And they're normal humbuckers, not the in-line housing ones.
How close to the AC30-sound is the VT-series?
Eh it's okay. There are 3 variations toe every amp model so you can really mess around with it to replicate sounds but nothing will sound as good as the original :p
dicks
I ordered a P bass pickup set and 1 J pickup for my PJ layout bass. They shipped the P and not the J, so I have to wait another month for the other pickup to arrive since they only do monthly shipping.
joy
Anyone else use Elixir Nanoweb strings?
For anyone interested in retaining that "new string" sound for months at a time, get Elixirs for your guitar. A tiny bit more pricey than regular strings but with the added benefit of not eroding in a few weeks (they last months while still being shiney) and that they're just fantastic to pay.
For example I can get Ernie Ball strings for £5.95 that last me a month at best or I can get Elixirs for £9.95 that last me 2-3 months still sounding brand new with no wear on them.

They came with my bass, and I feel they can be a bit flat, without much brightness unless I have them higher than standard tuning. (because I have a 5 string, I use drop C, but the B string is C instead of the E string)

We know, some of use use them, including me. Here in The Netherlands they cost €17 though ($23).
They never come with the "just bought" sound, which I quite like. I love them for general playing but for gigging and recording I would buy rotosounds.
No "Just bought" sound? Wat.
They're specifically designed to retain the "just bought" sound for months without wearing out like almost any other brand of strings.
Though I will sort of agree with you in the sense that rotosounds are the "next best thing" to Elixirs in my opinion.
Strings will never really determine what the guitar sounds like beyond how thick they are and thus how warm or thin they sound, which is why opting for Elixirs is better overall because they'll last you and if you have a decent guitar in the first place and/or a decent amp the strings won't matter.
