I like your LP, looks classy
It's actually an ESP/ LTD EC-1000, sort of like the epiphone of gibson. That being said, it's an amazing guitar, and I've been completely satisfied with it. From the shape to the feel standing up/playing live with it. It's extremely light and has a thin neck compared to a Les Paul.

I'd say that the quality gap between ESP and LTD is smaller than that of between Epiphone and Gibson. At least in my experience. That said, all four brands make good guitars.
Well then you should go with the C-7 Standard, it has set-in neck that feels REALLY good and I couldn't tell it apart from a neck-through.
Also it has Duncan Designed 'buckers which sound awesome, heavy and hot yet warm and genuine

I got it from ProGuitarShop
I thought it had a bolt on. Or is that just on the Omen?
Apparently. There have been plans in the pipeline for a while according to a PRS worker on SS.org. And apparently Allender let something slip about a sig model during an audience interaction thing on an interview. So I guess it SHOULD be a matter of time :v:
Dave Weiner who plays for Steve Vai already has 2, Wes Borland had one, (ugh) Chad Kroeger has one I think. Those are all Private Stock's mind you :v:
Alright it's decided. To hell with Schecter and Agile then!
I was tempted to buy a new guitar over the holiday, but I've come to realize that I could just upgrade my pickups for a lot less. The process should be simple. I am handy with a soldering iron.
So, I'm going to upgrade my crappy bridge humbucker. Any suggestions? I'm thinking about getting this one, but that's really just me picking the cheapest one I can find with good reviews.

Genre and current guitar? Also, how long have you been playing? And what amp?

Yeah I knew it wasn't a Gibson LP by looking at the pickups
It's still a LP, in shape at least bro.
And I meant to rate you winner, not disagree
That SG looks pretty amazing. Is that just a standard ebony finish on the wood or something?
It's really nice looking

Played my SG earlier, feels like a dream
Aside from my psych exam, today has been okay :unsmith:

What Kab2tract said. A pickup is really just an augmentation on existing tone. Most of the tone comes from your amp. Don't get me wrong, you'll notice a difference definitely, particularly with a big jump from own brand passives to something like handwounds. But the amp you're playing through is responsible for a lot more, so I would put your money towards that instead.
Couldn't agree more, I've watched so many people ignore my advice and buy a new guitar to get a better tone, and then get dissapointed.
They don't look as nice as a shiny new guitar, and a fat black box coming in the mail isn't very exciting, but amps are a lot more important than people think.
My switch from vintage singles to texas specials really changed everything coming from my amp.
The Neck pickup sounds like low neck + the bite on the middle pickup in the highs. That plus gauge 14 strings, I have a tone that I like.
But pickups will change your tone depending on what you change about them. Like humbucker to EMG's will definitely change your tone. But humbucker to a $27 won't do anything. It might make it worse depending on what guitar you bought and if it has stock pickups.
No doubt an amp has a major role, but it's not the only factor.

I never said it was the only factor. Far from it. But amps completely change the character of your tone, whereas pickups will do little past augment it (providing like you said you keep the same "style": Humbucker, Singlecoil, P90, Active, Passive etc). You could play a Strat through a Fender Deluxe, then play the same Strat through a Fender Frontman, it's not gonna sound even remotely as good. Play the same Strat with a different set of pickups through the Deluxe, you'll hear the difference, through the Frontman, little will change if anything.
Alright it's decided. To hell with Schecter and Agile then!
Bear in mind it's gonna be a LOOOONG time before they start producing them :v: look into the Agile for the time being
Yeah. My little Frontman 25R sounds nothing like the Vibrolux or the Mesa/Boogie.
Different guitars will bring about different levels of sustain, which can be pretty important, but I don't think that would be categorized under a tonal quality.
my blackstar has an amazing tone when combined with an EQ pedal.
the effects loop is great on it as well.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
Well, I leave for 10 minutes to come back to a fire burning the body I was working on. Managed to extinguish the fire, but the wood is far too charred to hope to salvage the project. This is the last time I work with hard maple..
You probably could still use the wood, even if only to keep it, purely for the looks. Charred guitars look badass
Playing the concert tomorrow. IM FUCKIN' PUMPED. It's gonna be awesome
So even though this is for normal guitars, I thought I'd share since I'm rather happy, my auntie just surprised me with a new bass guitar, a Fender P bass, I'm fucking stoked!

It's a shame though because my better amp is in a band practice room, Can't wait to try this out on a much better amp!
whats a good pedal for recording and looping stuff?

score. there is one in the music store in town I just played today, smooth and easy to play, feels great in the hands. I've heard Squier QC is hit and miss, but I reckon you have a keeper there. what were you playing before?

The idea came to me out of nowhere.
When the sound stops it's done, im not sure why it's 4 minutes when it's like 15 seconds.

That's really cool, how did you compose that? Was it just a random improv tune you thought of in your head all of a sudden?
That's really cool, how did you compose that? Was it just a random improv tune you thought of in your head all of a sudden?
Basically yeah
My equipment:
Washburn acoustic/electric
Fender squier strat (yuck)
Gretsch vintage '64 chet atkins Tennesean (My baby)
Epiphone wilshire (this years reissue, it's my shredding guitar)
Rogue A-Style mandolin
Hofner 50's era mandolin
Big ol' Ampeg amp, don't know the specs on it, the guy who willed me the Tennesean gave it to me as well.
That's a Prophecy EX or something right?
It looks fucking awesome, and that combined with EMGs is fucking awesome.
How much you pay bro?
[editline]24th November 2010[/editline]
Speaking of SGs, I finally get mine back today
Yesssssssssssssssssss
That's what it is yeah, I paid £450 for it with a 0% APR deal. Don't know much of the details though, saw it, played it, bought it.

More Bugera awesomeness.
So even though this is for normal guitars
I thought it was for the entire guitar family. But yeah, nice bass get.
whats a good pedal for recording and looping stuff?
Reading up on 'em it sounds like the Boss RC-50 is the cream of the crop, unless you're going to get into ridiculously expensive tape units. There's USB support for actually backing up your loops and shit, a shitload of room for loops, etc. But by the time you get to the RC-20XL and RC-2 you're stuck with 11 loops and no way to back them up or anything. I mean, technically you could record loops again externally with either and just plug that source back into the pedal to rerecord them when you needed them, but that would be a stellar pain in the ass.
Then there's the Digi-Tech JamMan stuff, which all sounds very nice and all of which have SD card and USB support. But there are a lot of complaints out there that they fuck with the incoming signal a bit too much- like everything sounds EQ'ed funny. There's also a Line 6 unit that allows saving with SD cards but it includes a bunch of shit like amp models and drum loops, and the demos sound kinda spunky to me. And the E-H 2880, but it's really oriented on dicking with the loops, not live use.
Depends what you want to do with it, I guess. If there's a store you can test them at, try the JamMan stuff against the Boss stuff and see if you notice any discoloration problems, then it's just a matter of what feature set you want and what you can afford.
Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm going to stick with what I've got in terms of pickups.
I play on a couple different amps, depending on where I am. The only amp I actually own is a cheapo peavey 15W amp, but I pop into different things when I'm at someone else's house. I'll keep my ears open a bit more in the future as to how it sounds differently.
Are there any decent Dream Theater solos that you can play on a six string guitar with 21 frets. I don't feel like running into the problem where I run out of frets. Had the same issue with Money but I was able to get around it because it was slower and I could bend up to the 22nd fret in time. There's no way I could do that with In the Name of God.
