Might get a job exclusively to get the money to buy more guitars and a better amplifier.
When I needed a bigger amplifier (my first one was some 15 watt thing that came with a starter pack) my dad was googling around and decided that the best choice would be... the Line 6 Spider IV 75 watt digital amplifier. Sigh.
While it's been okay, the digital sound is really starting to annoy me, and it's frustrating that I know I can get a better sound out of smaller, cheaper alternatives. It works for some sounds, and I'm sure it would sound great with some drums accompanying it, but on its own (and with no drums anywhere nearby) it sounds a bit pants.
Everyone hates the Spiders?
Why, A friend of mine has a stack version (100 watts or something) and another one has the 75 watt combo version
I've never seen my other friend actually use it, except for a couple of shows he played with it.
My other friend digs country and old school rock and roll and says that his combo handles it perfectly, while my other friend likes metal
If it can please both of them, then why is it a bad amp?
For me, after a while it just sounds too... Digital-y. It just seems too fake and computer-generated.
Like I said, if I had a full complementation of other instruments, like drums, bass and vocals, it'd probably be fine. But the way it is at the moment, when I play on my own the sound has an obvious fake edge to it.

Because (not to put too fine a point on it) they're tone deaf idiots. They're passable starter amps at the very VERY best, but as you go up in size and in volume you will see where all of their faults are. For low volume jamming they are acceptable, try turning them up and you'll get an earful of locusts and a room of people booing at you.
But hell, YMMV

This is my new Lee Ranaldo Signiture Fender Jazzmaster - I got it a couple of days ago. Unfortunately these have to be shit webcam pictures because I can't be bothered waiting for camera.
As you can see the plastic is still on the pickgaurd. w/e
I'm getting a Line 6 Pod Plus (Hopefully) for Christmas, and I recently discovered my friend is a sales associate for Guitar Center, and as such gets obscene deals on everything, So I was thinking I might return the Pod Plus, raise the extra $100 and get a Line 6 HD 500 in it's place, Would anyone else do this? The prospect of running 8 effects simultaneous is an exciting to say the least.
Solution to line6' apparent digital sound?
Use an external distortion. The amps themselves are actually pretty transparent. (IF that's your thing, 'Tis mine, I use GK Amps)
Something you might like to know, the Line6 Cabinets (Such as the 4x12 they make) are built damn well and weigh a ton. (Moving from gig to gig was never fun) I rewired one for 16Ohm for a friend to use on his new tube amplifier and there is so much bracing inside and it is loaded with celestion drivers. Still going strong after something like 35 gigs.

yesyesyesyesyes, how is it?!
Is it good?
Is it brilliant?
Is it GODLIKE?
A cheap amp simulator might not sound like the real thing or may just have that digital sound, but the average listener isn't going to pick up that it doesn't sound like an authentic amp. It is going to sound good as long as the tone is good. With mid to high grade amp simulators, in a blind test most people who know their amps can't tell the difference (there's an article about that, but I can't find it). I personally prefer a very modular piece where I can get a wide variety of tones in one box, which is why I prefer digital. I also don't care for authenticity, I just care about sound quality. If I became rich, I'd probably have more of an incentive to buy real amps.

IT IS SO FUCKING AMAZING.
I haven't stopped playing it. It sounds SO good. YOU MUST PLAY THIS GUITAR AT LEAST ONCE BEFORE YOU DIE

only thing I don't like about amp sims right now is line noise

My gripe is with all of their solid state amps. I have yet to play one that I liked. I've played one of the newer tube half stacks, and some of the Bugera-assisted tube preamp combos, and they were fine...albeit far overpriced for what you get.
The only solid-state amps I actually like are the high-wattage Crates (like my GTD 120, or the FlexWave 120), and the Peavey Vypyr series. The rest...really pale in comparison to those, and other better amps.
Lol you guys be hating on the Spiders while I jizz to my awesome recording tone I get out of it :buddy: All you need is an EQ and some knowledge about the spiders.
There is stuff inbetween my pickups
ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

But you shouldn't need a separate EQ to make your amp good. It's not like we're talking 8-or-9-string guitars here, where you need to even out a much more broad sound spectrum.
My Line 6 is good enough for practise, I'm just saving up for a super decent stack, thousands of dollars, etc etc and probably will record with my M-II.
And I just found out what amps Timo Tolkki uses in every album he has been involved with, so if anyone cares I'll message them.

You better clean that shit up boy
I'm satisfied with my 30W Spider II. Nothing bad to say about it.
Note: That cover video for Tools - Parabola was indeed played through a Line 6 amp.
Buying a Delay and maybe a Noise Gate this week. I'm so psyched!
Cool. I was thinking about buying a Chorus and Phaser.
You better clean that shit up boy
yeah, I cleaned it up before I touched it again.
I was just playing and I noticed some dust around the bridge and pickups and I went to scratch it off and was like
"damn guitar is dust-OHGOD"

We are talking about an spider with an 6 string baritone guitar tuned to an 8 string guitar tuning with an orgasmic painkiller pickup :colbert:
More often than not you need to add a bit of EQ to a guitar track to help it sit in the mix better anyway. That's not to say I don't agree with "Get the sound right at the source" because that is of great importance.

Line6' are not Great amps but they aren't as terrible as people make out.
The amplifier the player chose has rarely stopped me from enjoying the music. (One time our supporting act used tiny combos and the guitarist used one of them small Kustom 10W things, the sound was horrendous I had to go outside. But then I also have a newer version of the same amp in this room and it sounds fine. The person setting the thing up is a big deal)
With distorted guitar you always have to EQ them because they mask everything. It's one reason why palm muting is used a lot in metal. The cliche metal voice is usually the way it is because it is edgy enough to cut through the guitar.
Getting a different tone relying on distortion is near impossible without a preamp/equaliser
Mic position and orientation can also be used to differentiate tones a bit. Also mic choice.
Assuming we are talking about a situation where there even IS a mic. Otherwise putting your amplifier through strange speaker cabinets can be interesting (Don't do this if you don't know what you are doing).

How's the sound?

Hate me, I just bought this bad boy. I'm gonna have no money when I go back home.
It makes a tiny bit of noise, but it's not bad considering it's not True Bypass.

It's very nice. Pure, wide and not too noisy. :3:

I have that, Boss is a good brand.
Also, it only makes noise on the distorted channel I noticed. If I go Guitar > TL-2 Distortion Pedal > GE-7 > Clean channel on amp, it makes no noise.
