Too bad i'm not getting a piezo system for christmas :(
can you guys recommend a good 5-string bass with neck-through construction?
Ibanez BTB205
EDIT: or the BTB705 if you have some more money.
Thanks! But in reality that Dime head is a joke and does not do justice to Dime's tone.
well for that you'd really need the pickups and the Krank he used (no idea who he was with before Krank)

Iv researched his tone a lot. The amps he used for all of Pantera were solid state Randalls, on cowboys from hell he used a RandallRG100ES (which i also have) with some rack effects. He only used Krank when he was in Damage Plan.
When you guys improv, do any of you think about what you play? Or do you guys just let it flow like I do. Because the most I can do is sing and play at the same time. Thinking about what I'm playing only takes place when I do repetitive bends
I think a lot, but I'm not going to describe it so much as thinking but more as knowing and general planning. I think a lot about the direction I'm going in and how I am playing, and also the notes I'm on. Just as an example: if I know the jam track decent enough and I know that it has a builds in and releases and then goes to an ever bigger build and and that the real release, then I'll create a lot of tension by play embellishing the melody, play more dissonant tones and then on the first release I know to relieve some tension but I'd probably land on the 3rd of the chord being played since that gives the least resolve and then continue on creating tension and build it up more by almost alluding to the main melody but not playing it. The final resolution would of course be the main melody. Anyway, I do that kind of planning, and I don't really know what I'm going to be playing exactly but I figure it out while playing. When I come on to something that sounds good and can be repeated it gets repeated.
A lot of the time when I improvise I can and will just throw in licks that I know sound good over everything and those are just filler until I come up with something from my head. What I've been practicing a bit making the same melody sound interesting through small changes.
I just need to listen to the backing riff and I can figure out if it's major, minor, phyrgian, pentatonic etc.
A lot of the times if something is pentatonic minor you can add the whole minor scale into it.

Is this any good? I want to buy one to
I actually like it :D well worth the money because compared to my fender amp's built in distortion, the stuff coming from this pedal seems to be more rich and clean
As posted before it's a very simple pedal :P but also very versatile because I can get a decent ACDC sound going on or a Green day feel :P it satisfies my need as I sometimes play some Cradle of filth and Kalmah stuff here and there
I was looking through guitar amps with my friend the other day (He is downsizing his rig from the massive 4x12 Cabinet + Ma50 Setup), then it hit me...
What is with the lack of digital guitar amplifiers? (I don't mean modelling or DSP, I mean "Class D" Amplifiers), It's rife in the bass world.
Take this GK MB500 head for example:

500 Watts into 4 Ohm and it only weighs 1.36KG, Or the MB200 which is 200 Watts into 4 Ohm and weighs Less than a KG. Can fit it into a gig bag...
The closest I can find for guitarists is the crate powerblock? - Have I just totally overlooked a load of products or do guitarists not value their back?
I must be like the only person in this thread who didn't get any guitar gear for Christmas :smith:

All I want for christmas is something to clean up my amp. It was in storage forever because my dad didn't play it, in the knobs there are large hair clumps (more lint than actual hair). Then it's dust everywhere in the inside and outside.
I found rubbing "Pledge" orange on the outside of the amp (whatever it is, leather or something), it cleans it very well and shines it up. It also hasn't affected the black color of it, or my red little fender amp.

lol could be worse, I was offered a pedal but I refused, I need to do some research into the kind of tone I want
At least it's a nice day here :)
Speaking of cleaning. I spent a good two hours last night cleaning all my guitars properly.
It's so rewarding being able to see your reflection properly in the finishes.
I didnt get any guitar stuff for christmas either, but i got $550 US, so I can look forward to a new guitar soon :D
Holy fuck that's substantial
Holy fuck that's substantial
Yeap. I usually get about that, but most of this year's money is going to paying off my new baby. No way in hell were my parents dropping $800 on a new guitar for me alone.
I got $100 AUD
Then again I did get $100 a week ago, but that's a once in a lifetime kind of thing
I'm not buying new gear simply because I can't afford it, and I don't really need it.
That said if I did have 2 grand I'd go out and buy new gear.

I'll be waiting a good, long time before I get any major gear additions. Maybe a 7-string down the line, but really everything on my list is trivial compared to the prize at the end of the tunnel: A Mesa Triple Rectifier half-stack.
I just want a new guitar that can handle dropped tunings better
The next guitar I buy will be something designed to be a little heavier, an ESP or an Ibanez or something
I don't have a problem with my amp, and I'm not going to buy a new one, the only reason that I'd buy a new amp is so that I could have more effects, and to solve that problem I'm going to buy a multi effects pedal and just use that
Then again who doesn't want new gear?

I don't have a problem with my amp, I just greatly prefer the tone of a Triple Rec to my Crate.
I see
I don't really know, if I had two amps I'd be able to compare tones, but I haven't been able to do that yet.
Been trying to fix my old midi controller. Not working out, and I don't know why. But it has me quite irritated
Does anybody else get mad when they smash a bunch of guitars in a music video?
I when the smash a bunch of guitars in a music video?.
What?
I got a stone pick, assortment of wooden picks, guitar tuner-crank, my Bugera 6262 212, pick holder on mic stand.

Now you envy me.

I'd love to play that.
