Are there any decent Dream Theater solos that you can play on a six string guitar with 21 frets. I don't feel like running into the problem where I run out of frets. Had the same issue with Money but I was able to get around it because it was slower and I could bend up to the 22nd fret in time. There's no way I could do that with In the Name of God.
I THINK you could get away with it for like...Repentance. Petrucci really likes to play the high frets, so there aren't very many.

I learnt about half of it on my Les Paul but I forgot to finish learning it.
That's what it is yeah, I paid £450 for it with a 0% APR deal. Don't know much of the details though, saw it, played it, bought it.
It looks awesome, and it's got EMGs. Win win
The idea came to me out of nowhere. When the sound stops it's done, im not sure why it's 4 minutes when it's like 15 seconds.
I demand more opinions
I demand more opinions
It was okay, recording was a little quiet.
I demand more opinions
It's very short.
I demand more opinions
It would appear to have discernible pitches.
Im looking into a interface and mic for when I have the money :v: Any suggestions for the interface? The Shure SM-57 has stolen my heart.
FUCK YEAH! Now I can record my shiz! I might get something done today! :buddy:
Posting because I'm about to go play
Finally got my drum track recorded. Still a WIP, but opinions welcome.
cool sounding guitar. I like it.
Oh hey a new thread, so that's why I didn't see any new posts in V5.
So I decided to change all the strings on my Jackson (my main player). Some of the strings were like 2½ years old (No foolin'. They were the original ones). And the rest were maybe "only" 6 months old. So my strings are now glorious shiny instead of blackened greyish rusty. But noticed no difference in tone or playability! Fucking pointless!
I demand more opinions
I can't really tell what's was going on with it. Didn't sound too interesting or clear, just seemed like some basic arpeggios.
behold happy riff!
score. there is one in the music store in town I just played today, smooth and easy to play, feels great in the hands. I've heard Squier QC is hit and miss, but I reckon you have a keeper there. what were you playing before?
yeah it's amazing, nice low action, sounds pretty punchy, but the crappy amp I have for it sucks the potential moments that could be had :/, Before it I was playing nothing, I either sold or broke them, but I was playing a VOX Standard 'vintage' bass but I sold it because it was too heavy, pick-ups were fucked for the bottom strings and the sound was shit. had a kill switch though I had my fun :>
behold happy riff!
The riff is good. The drums sound awful. And they're too loud.
So even though this is for normal guitars, I thought I'd share since I'm rather happy, my auntie just surprised me with a new bass guitar, a Fender P bass, I'm fucking stoked! [img_thumb]http://i55.tinypic.com/2vd60rk.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://i55.tinypic.com/52x3ir.jpg[/img_thumb] It's a shame though because my better amp is in a band practice room, Can't wait to try this out on a much better amp!
Squier affinity, you should've gone for the VM or CV series.
The drums sound awful. And they're too loud.
What's wrong with them? I think they're great. :raise:
A beginner here to bass playing, I have the Ibanez Gio bass. I plan to play heavy/thrash metal mainly. The amp I got with it was apart of the pack, so I'm unsure about what model it is. This good for a beginner? I'm also using a 1.5mm Dunlop pick, I can't get into rhythm with my right fingers for the life of me. My friend also somehow managed to get the Fender Starcaster 1985 edition for £50 when it should of been a grand, that lucky bastard. The Strings are also soft as shit.

Still.. Affinity :'( actually hurt now. also I didn't choose it, So I had no control over who bought it. Gah
A beginner here to bass playing, I have the Ibanez Gio bass. Beginners packs are alright, stick with it, if you like it enough and are confident with bass, then start spending major money on better equipment, don't make a fools choice of buying a lavish guitar only to not play after 3 weeks whilst a good guitar sits there collecting dust, The amount of times that's happened to my friends. :frown: Also learn scales, Bass scales get anyone far, for learning and playing styles.

You don't need to use a pick for bass, that's just elitists who want all bassists to use fingers. While I don't play loads, I don't leave my guitar to collect dust, due to the fact I share a room with a completely contrasting brother, so I can't get much practice done, I do plan on buying some headphones for my amp though. Right now I'm focusing much on increasing the strength on my 4th and 5th right fingers, they are too weak to press on E and A. I'm also learning to speed up really pressing on the strings, I'm currently learning the Master of Puppets riff, as you may know, is fast. You'll be glad to know I'm going to lessons every week in school, shit is cash when your teacher can play Flight of the Bumblebee on guitar.

You do not have to use fingerstyle ofcourse but you should at least get your fingerpicking as good as your picking style. And also learning how to tap increases your finger strength a lot.

Never assume it's an elitist thing, I play both because I jam to anything. But it's definately something you need to learn, also mixing playing with fingers then slapping and popping will just make you look like a rugged bad ass. also about the collecting dust thing, I'm just saying bass might not be your cup of tea so don't invest too much cash into it yet, You never know, you might lose interest, wasn't trying to make a stab at you!
How do people not notice the horrid mistakes I make when I play live?
Working again! Here's the WIP song I've been making with all instruments. Bass is too loud, I know, but listen with headphones if you can, because the sound quality is much better with headphones. Comments are very welcome!
The bass is very high to be honest. I'd boost the guitars just a tiny bit or lower the bass a bit to have a better blend of the instruments.
