Fingerstyle is especially usefull in the Master of Puppets riff, but hey that's just me. You do not have to use fingerstyle ofcourse but you should at least get your fingerpicking as good as your picking style. And also learning how to tap increases your finger strength a lot.
Yeah, I'm working on increasing my finger strength at the moment, I then plan on picking up speed.
The bass is very high to be honest. I'd boost the guitars just a tiny bit or lower the bass a bit to have a better blend of the instruments.
Doing that tomorrow and trying to get the rythm guitars pop out more.
What's wrong with them? I think they're great. :raise:
Snare is definitely the most prominent thing in the mix right now.
How do people not notice the horrid mistakes I make when I play live?
Stage presence? Unless you get up there and put on your best poker face and stand stiff as a board. Then, uh...sex appeal? Unless you're ugly, then, uh...Unicorns.
Working again! Here's the WIP song I've been making with all instruments. Bass is too loud, I know, but listen with headphones if you can, because the sound quality is much better with headphones. Comments are very welcome!
That sounds really cool!! The riff at 0:50 is fucking awesome. Reminds me of the X-Men intro :v:! But yeah, the bass kind of eats up the whole mix. I think you need to lower the very lowest frequencies of it, in addition to lowering the whole volume. Try that.
Everyone is so helpful in this thread :3: its great
Guitars are fucking awesome, I went into a music shop and demoed a DS-1 and a Rat, they sound the same :v: That's the bad thing. I'll take the DS-1...
I think you should be able to do the Glass Prison apreggios with a six string. I learnt about half of it on my Les Paul but I forgot to finish learning it.
The first solo doesn't seem to bad. A lot of arpeggios. Should get me up to par on my sweep picking.
guitar is a shitty fender strat/squier wannabe i sold to some nice fella. hes giving it to his son for christmas. :downs:
Guitar hero IRL! Will likely end up in the attic in a few months. You should have modded it :saddowns: Arbitrarily posting my current stuff. obviously only "the one" guitar is still in one piece. My other red one got a new neck and a strat tremolo but I never really got around to finishing it. need more parts and drillbits.. I want that so bad...

Stupid question again- anybody know of a guide out there for making one's own pickups? I'm sure I can figure it out, but a starting point (that doesn't come from me just disassembling one) would be nice.

But it could be a learning experience, it could get you into working on guitars...
If you're making a pickup, should probably start with a dogear p90, since they are quite simple.
Unless you have your own pickup winder, I would suggest you don't attempt it.
I can rig up something that spins fairly easily, same for something that counts rotations. I'm just wondering what a good "template" to go off of is. And if it were tolerable I'd jam it in my crappy plywood Lotus and restring it. Though now that I'm thinking about pups, I gotta keep reminding myself not to throw something like an EMG 60-7x or set of Blackouts on my shopping list for tomorrow. Just gotta chant "707s are good enough for now" and chillllll.

Eh. I was thinking I would wait a while until I was actually ready to record some projects I'm lining up and then maybe go crazy and get BKPs. I just really, really don't like how muddy my 707s sound for heavy low end stuff, but I can kinda work around it with the 18v mod and keeping the preamp as quiet as possible until then. Definitely am going to that, though, but probably just for monitors and a turntable. I dunno, I might get a cheap nylon string like an LC100 while I'm there.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/100ksweepstakes Holy fucking shit.
I know I won't ever win those kinds of contests, but there is always that small glimmer of hope.
I'd enter but I'd be afraid they'd sell my phone number to a fucking annoying add or survey agency. Best to avoid giving out your phonenumber online unless it's really crucial.
Think my cheap bod pedal broke FFFFUUU.
Wait, hold on. I need to ask you something about your broken pedal. is it a wedge shape? Because if it is, you can use it as a doorstop.
~groovy downtuned midi content~ :v: New song I started working on. This is the first time I've tried composing using Guitar Pro to create a midi instead of recording my ideas. I'm liking this method so far, because I like to visualise (so to speak) how the song will sound as a whole while I'm writing. Criticisms welcome, just don't criticise the mix because I know it's a midi and I know it sounds bad. Rest assured the final song will be recorded with real guitar and bass, but probably not real drums :P. The lead guitar in the midi is in place of vocals. Edit: Updated the song, and started a guitar solo in a groovy breakdown section
Now I've reduced the bass in my song and boosted some of the guitars. Still a rough WIP, but tell me if I'm going to the right direction. Would it help to recognize different instruments, if I would put rythm guitars entirely to the left or right channel and leads to the middle? Also, TheGuru, that sounded really nice! I use the guitar pro method too.
I haven't listened to it yet, but a lot of guitarists put the rhythm in the left channel with quiet lead. Meaning that in the left channel the lead sound is there, but the rhythm is more prominent in that part of the mix.

There's also some clipping at some stages, but otherwise it sounds a lot nicer than the last one, and it's definitely comping along as a composition.

Trying to cut away all the needless chorus out of there.

I haven't been able to stop thinking of Doom since I started writing this :v:
