Definitely not a power chord, that's a sus2 chord
I never considered those power chords
It is though, the one I listed would be an A powerchord.
Definitely not a power chord, that's a sus2 chord
Oh, okay. I never really got into the name of these, i just see them as power chords with extended range :v:

Well that would be true if there was only roots fifths and octaves, but you got the second there too making it a sus2 or add9 chord

You'd have the mute the 2nd string because other wise you'll be playing a note other than the root or fifth. Writing out notes to shapes in the key of C always makes it easy.
You could maybe include the 2nd string in there if you really wanted, but you'd have to be able to easily reach up five frets above the the bar, and even then all you'd be getting is another E which would make the power chord a bit weaker. The root note, in this case the A, makes the power chord really strong. This isn't to say that you could purposely make the power chord weaker on purpose.

Power chords are really nice because they are strong sounding, don't get distorted nearly as much, and because they don't have a key associated with it. If the only notes you play in a song are the from the I IV V progression, you'll never know if the key is major or minor because there are no thirds included.
Welp, I need a upgrade from this piece of shit guitar i've had for around two years. Would a Dean Vendetta do the trick?
Might as well mention, what i have now is a Dixon SE series, and it sounds pretty damned bad, so even if the Vendetta isn't the best guitar in the world, I'm mainly looking for just an upgrade.
loldean
Why did you put dean and upgrade in the same sentence?

Depends on what price range Vendetta you're talking about, generally the low and mid-level Deans are shit(I can testify on this)
The 1000$+ ones are good though, or so I've heard
Hooray, got my amp.

That's a pretty big amp.
Indeed. Dual speaker cabinet and 100 watts. It's guess it's "valve" since it's a tube/ss hybrid, can see the little 12ax7s glowing inside it :3:
I'll take the first opportunity I get to haul it out camping so I can play it at the full 100 watts with the volume knobs cranked to 11. Im playing at 1 watt and 1/4 master/volume and it's quite loud. I'm afraid to set it to 100 watts and crank the volume out of fear that it will strip the drywall off my walls.
Not so great for modern "brvtal" chunky metal tone; it gets by works pretty well for 80's-sounding distortion. But it's got an amazing dirty amp sound which is mainly why I bought it, great for classic rock, and of course it retains some of that chimey clean vox stuff. Need to learn me some white stripes songs sometime, this amp would definitely be good for it.
Who would buy a vox for a chunky metal tone
Also fuck going camping to play it at full volume, just get an extension lead and do it in your backyard for 2 minutes or so
Learn The Denial Twist, that's one of the easiest White Stripes songs.
And congratulations on the new amp
Haha, I live in a housing coop so all the houses are very tightly knit, Id have a noise complaint within 1 minute.
Seems lots of these reviews for the VT100 would all people playing metal and reviewing it for metal purposes. It's a modelling amp, so it's not really like the vintage style vox amps. The reviews were sort of pissing me off because I wanted to hear the sort of "rock tone" but everybody was playing metal on it.

I like bone broke, would probably learn that first

When somebody says "Vox" I think of the Beatles kind of tone
I don't think of Meshuggah, or whatever
Yeah, as I said though it is a stray away from the stuff they normally make.
It can do the Beatles kind of tone too, though :v:
I knew it was inevitable.
My friend who spent money on his band broke up with his band. He spent $600 on his band buying two toms for his drummer and an assortment of effects for the other guitarist and a practice amp for the bassist.
Maybe he shouldn't have wasted his money, they should have bought their own gear.

The bassist didn't have a practice amp :raise:

Im more of a rough-tone person. I looked into it originally, the only reason I considered a vox in the first place was because of the features and tone of the model I bought. wasn't really looking for a Beatles tone, but its good to know it's there.

I might be killing a lot of time this year, so I'll get around to the guitar stuff when the weather clears up.
Might do a Jag after the LP

That's pessimistic thinking. Everything is designed for everything!
Except squares aren't made to go into circles.

Those amps get fucking loud, my friend has one. It always takes a bit to get the volume set low enough for bedroom practice, because the volume knob is sensitive. I have never ever had a need to turn it past like 4 to hear it clearly when I am playing the drums with my friend on guitar.
[editline]6th January 2011[/editline]
It also has beautiful clean, and vintage distortion tones. The 'metal' tones sound a bit flat and stuffy to me, but they are by no means bad.

Why the fuck hasn't this been answered yet?
His new album has an awesome title track (Fuzz Universe).

I really fucking like this song, it's got a jazzy upbeat feel to it.

Curse of Castle Dragon: has a really nice lively/expressive part around :30.

Then of course there's the staple stuff like Technical Difficulties, Scarified, etc.

My sentiments exactly. Its a sensitive amp, but if you fiddle with the settings you can get some great tones out of it, and a lot of variety at that. It's not a super-duper high end amp, but as long as it doesn't break I think I'll be satisfied using this for a very long time.
I am still eager to take it out into some secluded place and just let er rip at some ridiculous volume, hear it echo off the mountainsides :allears:
