Has anyone checked out the new Periphery music video yet?
It's sweet and no screaming which fits the song much better.

And I post it here because the instrumentals are awesome.

The Suhr Riot is one of the best best distortion pedals I've ever heard. Might have a bit more gain than you fancy but it's distortion sound is absolutely massive
I don't know about Rush and stuff, but the TL-2 is great for a variety of metal tones.

I'll have 20.
It's all pretty simple! Pre EQ for clean tones because if you use an pre EQ for dist it won't affect the distortion itself it will affect the way your clean string signal will come into the Distortion overlay (it also generates alot noise)
Haha. One more reason digital is supreme- extra processing stages don't add shit for noise.
But yeah so EQ's everywhere, woo.
Anything distorted sounds like ass on that
I thought the bit at 1:25 sounded alright, but most of it, yeah.
All distortion sounds disgusting (At least my ear hates it) direct without a speaker or a speaker sim to remove the horrible high end harmonics that kill your ears.
Of course one can simulate the roll off of a speaker with EQ.
On a totally unrelated note, I just put some lighter-guage rotosounds on my bass for a test, feel rough but nice and slack. I'm finding elixirs a bit "Tight". maybe DR coated (Black beauties?) will be next.

Put together new shit with old.

How would you describe this tone? I am trying to replicate it with my EQ pedal, Bugera 6262, and TL-2 distortion, but I am not the best for setting tones. I would just like a description, like "scooped mids, etc"
For Megadeth I normally hazard a guess at 7 bass, 5 mid, 7 treble, but that song is VERY produced sounding. Should get you close though, the treble on that track is very very tame, I'd imagine it would be difficult to get it right
Well, I'll try my best. Maybe if I get it right somehow, I'll record it and share it.
The thing with that tone is that it's really a blend of the bass drum, bass guitar and guitar that gets that exact sound. It would be impossible to replicate with a lone guitar.
I feel bad that I have nothing to talk about in this thread about gear
Somebody buy me a new guitar because I want one
So talk about something other than gear. Artists, songs, techniques, etc.
Actually, long as I'm thinking of technique, what's a good way to learn how to bend strings as a tremolo? It occurred to me that I never do that kind of thing, just simple shit like bringing something a half step up.
How does one LEARN to bend a string?
That's kind of like learning to move your fingers, you don't need to learn how to do it.
Also, question: Does anyone here know how to sweep pick?
Everyone does it a slightly different way really. You just have to practice it. Because I play with 10s I tend to try get my fingers 'under' the strings kinda, and for bigger bends wrap my thumb over the top of the neck to help. With big bends also sometimes I use 3 fingers just to distribute the force and make it feel easier.
Just see what works for you and feels right.

I know how to but I can't do it very fast :v:
I really want to learn how to do it, do you have any tips or suggestions?
Thanks for the pedal suggestions, I liked the Greenhouse distortion and the Suhr the most.
I wish the Suhr demo included some maxed out sounds, I really want to hear how heavy it goes.

There's a metric cockton of tutorials on Youtube but they all haven't given me the ability to do it. I understand the mechanics of it, I just can't get my fingers to do it.
I can sweep pick, but my left hand cannot follow that fast.

As with most things, start really slow, and with simple exercises. Only go faster when you can play it perfectly at the slow speed. Once you can play simple exercises quickly and precisely, move on to more advanced patterns but start slowly again.
Here's one of my favourite basic patterns to practice, really gets your fingers moving:
-------12-14-------------12-14--------
----13-------13-------13-------13-----
-14-------------12-14-------------12--
--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------
4 string version:
---------12-15------------------12-15-----------
------13-------14------------13-------14--------
---14-------------13-------14-------------13----
15-------------------12-15-------------------12-
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------

Same way I would describe any Metallica tone, save for Load/Reload and St. Anger.
Scooped mids with lots of extra treble and bass. Active pickups will give you a more precise tone for a Metallica sound, because they use EMG's. Also, crank the gain.

I figured as much, I guess I'll have to spend an afternoon or something finding the right balance/combo between my pedals and amp.

Practice like a bitch, I dunno, I found my own way to do it.. I dunno how many ways there could be.

I'd prefer advice from people here to youtube
It's a very advanced technique, I'm willing to try for hours to get it right, then I can show off to my friends :buddy:
It also sounds beautiful imo
