Recorded with a Guitar Hero World Tour Microphone through Audacity :smug: And a shitty player who hasnt had enough coffee.
I don't have a guitar, so whenever I want to use guitar in my songs, I use FL Slayer in Fruity Loops. But I don't like it much, it's so terribly overused. So, do any of you guys know about any good guitar VSTs or other methods of creating a good guitar sound in FL studio?

FL studio 9 something... :v: I'll look into it.
I'd prefer advice from people here to youtube It's a very advanced technique, I'm willing to try for hours to get it right, then I can show off to my friends :buddy:
Sweep picking is as much a case of muscle memory as it is naturally picking, and still something I haven't mastered though I know a few crazy bastard sweepers. Basically make sure your picking technique is right off the bat, since that's probably the most alien thing about it. You're not "picking" each string, you're gliding over them in a very fluid motion catching the strings as you go. The left hand technique is basically just chord shapes on the move, with muting and shifting as you go. Once you nail it I'm told it becomes incredibly easy, and many other techniques remain incredibly hard
FL studio 9 something... :v: I'll look into it.
Well it came out on FL Studio 6 I think and I saw it on 7, not sure about after that.
Practiced pinch harmonics all day today. Finally can do about 7-8 times out of 10 instead of 3-5. fine tuned my amp and distortion so they work together and don't fart and it sounds fucking awesome. I almost literally jizzed when I first got a REAL (not muted, like newbies do) pinch harmonic.
doing that sweeping exercise atm
Keep your left hand relaxed. Also try these basic 5-string Major and Minor patterns: Major (C)
e:-------------12^15h-12p-------------- B:----------13^-----------13v---------- G:-------12^-----------------12v------- D:----14^-----------------------14v---- A:-15^-----------------------------15^- E:-------------------------------------
Minor (C)
e:-------------11-15h-11p------------- B:----------13------------13---------- G:-------12------------------12------- D:----13------------------------13---- A:-15------------------------------15- E:------------------------------------
Thanks Well this is going to be difficult, I'll crack it eventually [editline]21st January 2011[/editline]
Sweep picking is as much a case of muscle memory as it is naturally picking, and still something I haven't mastered though I know a few crazy bastard sweepers. Any one here remembers their first guitar? I sure do: Kinda related (not really). Lesson learnt, always have a spare set on hand :) (D'Addario did a free coated set with any double-set of XLs as a promotion here in the UK at one point)
Lesson learnt, always have a spare set on hand :)
Frankly in almost 6 years i've only broken 4 strings, i never really believed in spare sets but i'll consider having one after today's accident :v:

Multieffects aren't that bad if you can get the right sound out of them. Here's a something i recorded back with my Zoom G1 and Epiphone Special II: Have upgraded to a G7.1ut since and it's alot better and I'm completely satisfied with it.
I must have a blackstar HT-5, i can't bare the sound of my line6 for practice at home
Alright, great news, after sitting with my distortion pedal, eq pedal, and amp for 2 hours, I finally have the beginnings of my System has Failed Megadeth tone. The low end needs to be adjusted a bit, and there are some issues with the highs, but overall, it sounds very similar. I tryed recording it, but my cheapo $30 mic picks up way too much low end, so I'd have to compensate for that, but I am trying to borrow my friends Shure sm57. I am very happy!
I must have a blackstar HT-5, i can't bare the sound of my line6 for practice at home
seriously its the best practice amp you can buy. Get one and destroy the line 6 with a shotgun
So my brother never uses his guitar, a really bad fender Squier, and a friend of mine gave me his old pickups because i soldered his new humbuckers into his guitar. now these pickups are pretty nice, they come standard in the ibanez ART models, they are active pickups. [the pickups on the guitar] now i decided to install these new pickups into the crappy guitar, to make it slightly less crappy. i'm going to try to keep this a low cost project, but i will be doing all the wiring completely from scratch because these are active pickups and thus require a completely different wiring prodedure: much like this, or... exactly like that basically. the power supply is going to be two AA batterys in a fitting holder of course. i think it's going to work out but there are two things i'm concerned about that any of you might be able to help me with, as shown there are two types of potentiometers 50k-A and 50k-B, i figured one of both will be linear and one will be logarythmic (sp?). but i can't figure out which is which. also i'm disappointed it isn't specified what connection goes to what part of the jack connector, but i figure the battery will be connected to the tip and both the connections to either of the other connections because it will be a mono jack. I just ordered a new pickguard with cutouts for two humbuckers, and i managed to get hold of the 104 capacitator, soon i will be ordering the potentiometers and switches i'll need, then i'll need to cut out a lot of wood out of the body to be able to fit the humbuckers sized pickups in it, then solder everything up and pray. i'll just keep updating here, because i don't think it deserves a tread, but i think it will be quite interesting. If this all works out this is going to be one great squier.
seriously its the best practice amp you can buy. Get one and destroy the line 6 with a shotgun
no, i will sell the line6 to an idiot
Getting a Schaller PJ pickup set for my Shine at some point.
Everyone does it a slightly different way really. You just have to practice it. Because I play with 10s I tend to try get my fingers 'under' the strings kinda, and for bigger bends wrap my thumb over the top of the neck to help. With big bends also sometimes I use 3 fingers just to distribute the force and make it feel easier. Just see what works for you and feels right.
What "feels right" right now is to let my right pinky hover near the trem arm and just use that rather than bend. But yeah, I'll just spend an hour screwing around with it if there's no default way of doing it. If you're dead set on trying to do it with software, try Musiclab RealStrat, a Prominy library, Ministry of Rock, or Musesamples. Maybe a Pettinhouse or whatever library. But for what you'd have to spend to get a decent sound, you might be better off actually buying a $200 guitar and interface and going at it yourself.
