Yea, i don't quite understand the practicality of that. Its certianly awesome technology, Best use I'd see is taking it to a music store and profiling the amps to save money?
Yea, and you'd have to hit up guitarcenter or sam ash when they're dead and empty.
Orange amp? Put on a british accent, and hey presti, $1,000,000 from indy music.
orange computer is great though, how much is it gonna cost?
Around £1020 according to the site.
When I first opened the video I thought "this is fucking stupid". After watching it, I think it's awesome.
I couldn't really justify getting one because I don't really do much recording (and what little I do doesn't need to be of such a good standard) - but it's an incredible idea.
oh thats a reasonable price for a brand product like that. i recon the specs aren't that good.
would be better if you could also use it as amplifier witouth starting it up and everything.

oh wel 500 gb HDD. 4gb DDR2.
i3 @3.06GhZ
decent i guess, doesn't have a graphics card though. comes with expensive software as they say
Could probably do it for half that with some DIY skills if you really wanted one.
Get an orange combo practice amp, strip it out, modify rear plate, insert Mini ITX board. Make a new baffleboard for 2 x 6" speakers, done.
Nice novelty product.
To anyone willing to try it, CGCGCE is a wonderful tuning to use.
Right now, I'm saving up cash to put down on a rockerverb 50. good shit

we are not all as educated as you, unfortunately :smith:
okay so is it safe to say that the Blackstar HT-5 is a GOOD amp?

Yes, it's a very good amp, great sound at reasonable volume levels.

I'm pretty satisfied with mine.
that modelling amp is quite interesting, but the fact that you have to own the moddeling amp, a pre amp, a computer, recording software, the actual amp that you are modelling and about a hundred dollars worth of cable kind of puts me off.
The pre wasn't necessary, just part of his setup. You could do it with just the modeling amp and your mic'ed regular amp if I'm reading the spec sheet right.
Though, like I said, it seems kinda sketchy when they don't mention anything about how it actually works, information you can find for any other modeler out there. Cristoph Kemper is a pro with synthesizers (I mean, this is the guy responsible for the Virus TI), but something about this just doesn't seem quite right to me. One demo, no library (logical extension of the tech- you don't see altiverb coming without IRs, for example), no explanation. Really odd.

Yeah, and I can't see even that end result being any more convenient then a portable interface, laptop and small cabinet in a pack, but it's still a hilarious concept.
Right, VOX AC15 with a Marshall MG412A cabinet, or just a single Vox AC30 amp?
I just got a beautiful sound from my boogie.
Oh my god i'm in love. If my fingers stop hurting, I'll play the stereotype song that I've been working on and record it (with a real mic this time).
Right, VOX AC15 with a Marshall MG412A cabinet, or just a single Vox AC30 amp?
The Marshall MG412 is one of the worst cabinets on the market. If you want a cheap cab, go on Thomann and look for the Harley Benton 2x12. Cheaper than the Marshall and comes loaded with Celestion V30s.
However, chances are you won't actually need it. Considering your avatar is The Beatles, I'd just go for the Ac30 and be done with it
what'd be a decent but cheap bass head and cab setup to get in the future? nothing outrageous, 200W max

I use it on a regular basis, it's a lovely tuning. Why don't you try CGDGCD?

Also everyone post their gear. I wanna hear what everyones got.
Hi people!
I've been toying with the idea to learn how to play guitar for a year now. And I haven't really looked into what I need, and I really don't know what brands are good and what a decent entry level guitar is (Acoustic). Can I get like a list or something?
I'd suggest a simple starter kit for your first guitar. Maybe a Fender Acoustic one or Ibanez or something.
right, i've got a bit of a dilemma, guys.
I want to buy a guitar, but i dunno what's the best idea:
I play bass, so i already have a bass amp
Is it smarter to buy a starter kit with guitar + amp, or am i better off with a higher end guitar that i just plug into my bass amp? Cos I've found a nice second hand epiphone LP.
So I finally got to play my dream amp today.
Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier, attached to a Mesa 4x12.
It was absolutely beautiful. SO glad I brought my PRS to the store with me.

Keep in mind unless your bass amp has distortion you will have no distortion on a bass amp.
Also, I know very little about bass amps in terms of what they offer.
So for any distortion you will need effects pedals. I presume you could use bass effects with a guitar, though I might be entirely wrong about that.

I have one of these:

Maybe its usable?

I would suppose so. the ABSOLUTE WORST thing that can happen, assuming there's no shorts in the connections or anything, is that it does absolutely nothing because it is a bass pedal and the guitar does not fall into the affected range of frequencies of the pedal.
I guess so
I'm considering it, cos i've heard from lots of sources that starter guitar packs are awful
like this

i don't know...
I only got a bass amp and that has no distortion. When I play my les paul I use my shitty bass overdrive pedal and I get some distortion. It's not the best sound but it works.

I'd be concerned about the speakers causing vibrations in the hard drive. That probably isn't likely to happen because I don't think the amp vibrates very much because most of the energy is transferred into the air, but it's still something you'd want to avoid. It would be easily avoidable with solid state drives.
I'd suggest a simple starter kit for your first guitar. Maybe a Fender Acoustic one or Ibanez or something.
How much do you suggest I spend?
I would recommend that you spend around $500 all up. Get a USED guitar for ~300-350 and spend the rest on an amp, cables, picks, etc.
I say used because you can get a very nice used guitar for that price range, whereas any brand new guitar will be awful. The amps that come in starter packs are also always terrible.
A good idea might be to buy the guitar first, then go amp shopping with a guitarist friend that knows what to look for, so you can make sure you get a decent practice amp, because some actually sound really decent. I have a little Kustom amp and it it packs some real punch, and has some excellent sounding gain.
As for what guitar to get, here are my recommendations:
Metal/shred/virtuoso stuff: Ibanez RG/RGA/S (avoid Gio/GRG)
Rock/Blues/basically everything else: Fender/Squier Strat (Mexican Fender if possible, otherwise Standard series Squiers are still good players), Fat Strat (Same as strat but with a humbucking pickup which makes this a very versatile guitar), avoid Affinity series and Bullet
And AVOID floating tremolos! Stick with the fixed bridge guitars or Fender style tremolo. Cheap trem systems are a total pain in the ass and will do nothing but discourage you from playing.
Guitars sound lush through bass amps.
Guitars sound lush through bass amps.
This too. Bass practice amps usually sound better to me, but you will have to also buy a distortion pedal if you want to play anything dirty.
Clean guitar through bass amps = ear sex though
bass amps work fine for guitars
guitar amps for basses though, not so much
