We didnt like them at first. We still dont like Jake, I THINK we like Roxy now, and I know Im more or less indifferent to Jane and Dirk

From what I've seen, Roxy was well received while Dirk was in second. Jake and Jane were/are tied for last because they haven't been developed as characters at all.
Personally, I just gave up at the start of Act 6. I was already too busy to catch up with things up to that point, and after Cascade I just didn't have the motivation to keep going.

Most of them seem to like them, while there also seems to be a sizable minority that do not like them. Many people were also desperately confused.
Jane is legit just john, which I can get behind. Dirk had a lot of potential, being (arguably) the crowd favorite guardian going in (he IS supposed to be Bro, right? I didn't get the timeline thing fucked up along the way?) but every chatlog I've read of his just seems super bland. I mean maybe that's the point, that this supposedly badass character is really just kind of a dork and/or asshole, but Ed Edd and Eddy pulled that same shit back in 2002 so whatever.
Jake's literally the worst and I hope he gets dropped in a volcano or something equally awful.
And Roxy is the only one I'd say I like out of the new kids.

I thought it was well-established that 90% of the kids and trolls are dorks and/or assholes
Jane is bland, Roxy is the best, Jake is basically a tumor that Hussie used in order to go "oh, you want romantic bullshit? HERE, HAVE ROMANTIC BULLSHIT, HAVE IT CONSUME THE PLOT" out of his neverending spite for Tumblr, and Dirk is fine except half his shit revolves around Jake. If we didn't have the romantic bullshit that there is no way isn't deliberately dull and tedious we could have put that time into developing Jane or making Jake less of an insult to the intelligence of rocks.
Basically if Hussie hadn't cracked and begun a neverending tirade against Tumblr we'd be better off. I want to say it started when Nepeta had whatever role she was going to play removed just because the fandom really liked her, but that's just the "haha fuck you" that Hussie has always had. It just got out of control in Act 6.
That being said I still like Homestuck and never got into this "man homestuck sucks after x point" that people seem to have gotten or are deciding they have due to the gigahiatus.

Super gross. I dunno if Hussie just collapsed under the weight of his own need to write dumb shit, or if this character is just awful, but it just feels needless.
I can understand Jakes vernacular, because he's supposed to be a great white hunter blah blah blah, but the way Dirk speaks makes no sense to me. Like sure it's his glasses talking there and not actually Dirk, but for the character he's (albeit silently) been portrayed as, it just feels anachronistic.
It's like in Game of Thrones if all you heard was "man The Mountain is a badass, he's pillaging everywhere and doing bad things and blah blah blah" and then The Mountain shows up and he's like "hey guys y'all like horses? i wrote a book on horses"
I'm probably not the first to suggest this, but I think the best course of action in a situation like this is to literally just call him Dave Strider and give him roughly the same personality as the original. It gets the easy gag of "wow they're the same fuckin' person" and doesn't have to try and paint Bro for the audience. The audience already painted their own picture of who Bro was like 3 years prior.

I agree with this, a lot of people have been very quick to totally give up on Homestuck all of a sudden and it's very strange to me.

To be honest, I don't consider Bro and Dirk to be the same character, even if they are genetically.
If you think the Alpha kids are tough to like, just you wait till you get to the whole new set of trolls Hussie designed to specifically mock the fanbase
which the fanbase at large ended up liking a lot anyway despite the malice being outright instead of subtle like the first round of trolls
I think what hussie tried to do with the ancestors was take the main parts of the beta four's personalities and then split them to the extremes.
Dirk is stoic while Roxy is flirty both of which are main traits of Dave and Rose
Jane is prankish and Jake is derpy as shit, both of which are (slightly muted) traits of John and Jade.
The beta kids are mixes of said traits (leaning towards one parent or the other).
It didn't work, like, at all, but I think that's what he was going for.

like, I don't know how you can manage to have KC Green write something for you and have it not be funny. it's remarkable how genuinely unentertaining the three comics so far have been.

I dunno, I liked KC's comic. The one before it was kinda eh but this one one was good IMO. Besides, there have only been two real comics (since the first one was basically a title page). It's far too soon to pass judgement on it.

I have condensed several paragraphs worth of musing down to this:
We can all agree that Act 6 is the weakest act. Hussie did not leave us on a strong note, he meandered around, deliberately made things tedious to spite the fanbase, and then got right up to the part that everybody was looking for, went "lolnope" to save time and jumped around it, and then immediately went "fuck it no updates until it's done come back in eight months".
As a result people have been stewing over the negatives and since it's so much easier to pick out bad things and focus on them than to think about the good parts, coupled with the lack of excitement that comes from the gigahiatus people have just decided they don't care at all.
If Hussie had left us with more than just ending in the middle of something, or we had gotten something better then we'd have a very decreased case of this. Personally I wish he would give us something inbetween to tide people over. Imagine dropping something like the Midnight Crew intermission in and then going "ok have fun no updates for six months". People would probably be more excited, instead what is happening is that people have passed the start of any excitement for it and are actively being dehyped.
Personally I'm going to get excited like a week before it updates assuming it doesn't just update with no warning, but I'm worried that a lot of people are just going to go "yeah whatever i'll read it later".

It's basically what I starting reading Homestuck for in the first place: Nonsensical, hilarious horseshit shenanigans.
The comics can be literally anything starring the Homestuck cast.
It's like comedy fanfiction, but with a filter to prevent shit garbage from getting through.
