I was hoping the same thing, like somehow Caliborn had actually learned how to draw really well through a needlessly complex process like with how he draws circles.

Comedy potential
I did't really like Doc Scratch myself, he kinda seemed like a dick.
So last night was pretty terrible. I hadn't slept the night before, so I was extremely tired and I also had a very bad headache. I decided to catch up on Homestuck and for reasons I can't fully remember I got really mad and started thinking things like "holy shit this comic is awful why do I even read this crap." The only thing I do remember was me getting most angry at the fact that Aranea was able to dodge Dirk's attack. The fact that she could even move in between them really bothered me. I ended up getting into a big dumb debate over it on another board which had me trying to explain that I didn't think that moving at Strider-like speeds was within Aranea's scope as a character and trying to convince them that no amount of mind reading will save you from an attack that's sufficiently swift. The thread died and I was so tired that I really couldn't do anything else but take some aspirin and hit the bed.
As the painkillers melted my headache away and I began to drift to sleep, I realized my error. It laid not with any of the logic I had presented but with the humble, age-old sin of taking Homestuck way too goddamn seriously.
TL;DR did something stupid laugh at me

first time through I didn't really appreciate it because the kids were in the middle of something and the impatient me wanted to see what happened next
I love it now though, its one of the funniest parts of homestuck
