I don't get what made people not like her. Sure she did not figure much into the plot, but it was not like reading her pesterlogs was scratching a blackboard with nails or anything. She's okay.
She's funny, in like a few conversations with Equius right before she dies horribly. Yeah she is hard to defend.
Nepeta was funny, cute and charming. She was as innocent as trolls go so you felt bad when she died, ultimately her purpose in the plot was to make you understand how evil Gamzee is, but I don't think that makes her a bad character

Well, trolls are insectoid aliens. That means they have to have features like:
Tentacle penises on both sexes
Lion tails with poofs on the end
Being three feet tall with cat features
Kanaya literally just being a bat/moth hybrid
Chicken-like legs
many other dumb things I've seen trolls been drawn with that I can't really remember right now.
Because Homestuck is not a visual story where you can see that characters. At all.

A lot of the Homestuck fans I've met are pretty respectable and chill people. There's always the obnoxious ones, though.
