Having a swastika on you means something like: "I am a proud member of master race. All other races are subhuman and deserve to die. I think holocaust was a good idea.".
except the swastika is an international symbol of peace in dozens of ancient cultures.
except the swastika is an international symbol of peace in dozens of ancient cultures.
International symbol of ancient cultures? Awesome. Too bad we don't live in ancient times. 70 years ago millions of civilians were murdered by bearers of that symbol. Tell them that it was an international symbol of peace. Maybe in ancient times it was a symbol of peace. Now it is a symbol of Nazism. If OP lived in ancient times I would agree with him that his teacher overreacted.

The Nazi stigma only exists widely in the Western world. In the East it is still a symbol of peace. And the symbol's historical place is still vastly that of a peaceful and symbolic one. The Nazi stigma primarily relates to a tilted Swastika with deep reds surrounding it. Square swastikas are an entirely different matter. This is all irrelevant, because offending people is none of your goddamn concern. We live in free countries with free speech, I'll be goddamned if we start acting like fascist because of the Nazis of all the goddamn ironic reasons.

It's not because we all gonna go "lets burn jews lol" out of sudden.
UK isn't in the east. I thought we were talking about how people from western world react to swastika. And I don't think they are overreacting.
You don't think acting like a fascist is an overreaction? You realize the entire reason the Nazis were fought was BECAUSE they reacted so violently to simple symbols, ideas, cultures and concepts? It is not your place to tell people what they should think, lest you be a Nazi yourself.

I'm just saying that western world sees swastika as a nazi symbol. And nazism is a bad thing last time I've heard. You can see whatever you want in that symbol I don't give a fuck. But you have to consider what others think about it before you paint your house in swastikas.
You can see whatever you want in that symbol I don't give a fuck. Anyone who doesn't like it can suck it, regardless of what the opinion in question is.
Fuck no I don't. This falls under the same rights that allow us to burn flags around here. The Swastika isn't an original Nazi symbol. Created by hindus. It's extinct anyways..
its more of the intention of why it was drawn that what it symbolizes really. but humans automatically connect what they see to what they have been taught about it, good or bad.
We were talking about WW2 during class, and I go over to my friend, do a Nazi salute, and say "MIEN FUER!" [This was a friend I watched 'Downfall' with :P] The student teacher sees, gives me a bad look, end of story, no detention, no nothing Even if you did put a swastika on anything, you shouldn't be punished for your political views, it's the Nazi party.
It's been over 60 years now. Get over it World! You too Germany.
So it's ok for me to go outside with a loudspeaker in a t-shit saying "ALL NIGGERS DESERVE TO DIE" and start shouting above text?
That depends entirely on the phrasing and context. If you organize a "Hate Niggers" protest then yes you can. If you go out into the street and verbally threaten people with death then no, you cannot. You can advocate death and murder but you can show no intent to do so yourself, nor can you intentionally incite threats upon your own life.
Please don't lock this for "My day at school", this is more of a rant about overreaction to swastikas. If this is in the wrong section, please could a mod move it. I thought it was suited to GD because it does raise some issues and isn't just me blogging, but it's up to a mod whether that's correct or not... It is a normal Economics lesson, I had just pointed out to my teacher that taking notes every lesson wasn't a great method. Bad idea... Later when she sees the swastika someone had drawn on my planner (where I write homework etc.) she freaks. If I hadn't made that earlier point, she probably would have given me a warning and told me to get rid of it. But no, she freaked and took me outside after the lesson...where she promptly told me where my planner was going next. Now, I will never know whether this was coincidence or not. She could have chosen any teacher to send it to - the most obvious being my form tutor or maybe the headmaster. But no, she chooses to send my planner to the moderately high-ranked Art teacher. Normally this would be unremarkable, but this particular teacher just happened to be Jewish. Meh, knowing what a bitch my Economics teacher is - she most likely did it on purpose. At this point I still wasn't that worried, I'd decided that I would explain away the swastika as someone else doing it and it'd all be fine (even though she's very strict and is a complete bitch, I thought she'd understand :v:). The next morning, I was told in registration to go to the Art teacher's office straight away. I obviously obliged...and what came next was a huge surprise... She started off by asking me to explain, and I went with the "It was someone else, I couldn't help it" excuse. She immediately rejects this, and continues to attack me (not physically) about why it's there. Then she completely threw me off by actually accusing me of putting it there, which I deny. Then she goes on to rant about how if I can't prove who it was, she'd just assume it was me...what a bitch. Then she actually accuses me of having these political views, and then when I deny it she goes on to stress that it's not something to joke about. At this point I am just repeating that what she's saying is absolutely ridiculous, but by now my input is completely irrelevant. Now my mum has received multiples calls asking for a meeting with the Art teacher, and I have had to answer so many questions...until I told my mum the whole story, she was severely worried and had got the impression that I was in incredible amounts of trouble. Surely not all Jews react like this? I'm not retarded, I do know that swastikas are/can be perceived as incredibly offensive but surely the way this teacher has reacted is in a slightly melodramatic fashion? And I would like to see more examples of how Jewish fellows have reacted to a similar situation, or maybe just a swastika in an everyday environment. Is my teacher justified in what she thinks...? I wouldn't know, not being Jewish and all... TL;DR Someone drew a swastika on my property, Jewish teacher rages and might suspend me, I question the nature of the said teacher and whether they are correct in reacting like this. [editline]23:12[/editline] I live in England (Hertfordshire, about an hour out of London). [editline]23:15[/editline] To clarify, expression of pro-Nazi beliefs is illegal. Maybe if it was clearly the BNP logo, I'd get away with it...but it wasn't. [editline]16:56[/editline] I was isolated (like in-school suspension). I had a GSCE French speaking exam later that day, after spending 5 hours in small room with very little human contact - I can safely assume I got a terrible grade in my exam.
Do you go to Kimpton?
It's illegal to share the views of Adolph Hitler? Move to a better country.
sue the school im sure you can also, i agree, ive seen swastikas before, not a big deal oh and did this person by chance play wolfenstien 3d? i heard the levels are swastikas
People draw backwards swastikas on my planner since they don't know left from right
Man I love german WWII engineering. Oh hey cool thread. Sounds like you live in America.
In my math book, I drew a swastika and a little comic with Stalin and Hitler having a picnic. The teacher laughed and put it on the overhead.
Your teacher is fucking awesome
Jews control America. [editline]04:12AM[/editline]
Ok guys, my parents had a meeting with The Art teacher today. My mum briefed me on the highlights (she didn't say much herself at the meeting): Art teacher: This is the planner Lawyer Step-dad: That's very rude, hello my name is ******** Basically they kept at it, while the Art teacher was losing horribly. But because the Art teacher was being childish so my parents requested the headmaster got involved. Headmaster: May I ask your profession? Lawyer Step-dad: I am a lawyer. Headmaster: How would you feel if an employee defied you in such a manner? Lawyer Step-dad: I don't tend to employ 14 year olds. Also my Step-dad said that the isolation punishment myself (and many others) faced could be an infringement on human rights. The headmaster wasn't happy to say the least. :v: Oh yeah, and at one point my Step-dad was talking to the headmaster, and the Art teacher tried to have an input. He told her to be quiet as he was trying to have a conversation with the headmaster. She went quiet until the end of the meeting. Victory :v:
Everyone you know is fucking retarded, its a doodle get over it.

Situation told by OP happened in UK. Whole world doesn't follow American laws. Many countries see "hate speech" illegal. I have been raised in one of these countries. I do not tolerate it. In UK it goes:
In the United Kingdom, the Public Order Act 1986 prohibits, by its Part 3, expressions of racial hatred, which is defined as hatred against a group of persons by reason of the group's colour, race, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origins. Section 18 of the Act says: A person who uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or displays any written material which is threatening, abusive or insulting, is guilty of an offence if— (a) he intends thereby to stir up racial hatred, or (b) having regard to all the circumstances racial hatred is likely to be stirred up thereby. Offences under Part 3 carry a maximum sentence of seven years imprisonment or a fine or both.
Symbol of some belief/party is always propagating it. Swastika is a symbol of nazism. Nazism was propagating hatred hence propagating nazism is illegal. And don't get me wrong. I don't give a fuck if I offend people. But I do think hate speech is wrong (not because it offends people but because it propagates hatred). And btw 1-man "hate niggers" protest might be legal but I don't think it would end nicely for me.
He didn't even draw it, that's the problem.
Oh, well in that case does it really matter it's a swastika? get your parents involved, tell them you didn't draw the swastika, if the teacher takes it further, maybe it's worth talking to the police? Or i dunno. School teachers are fucking morons.
Having a swastika on you means something like:"I am a proud member of master race. All other races are subhuman and deserve to die. You can't really think everything written/drawn on students assets was done by the owner. tl;dr I don't think your teacher overreacted but I think she's dumb to reject your excuse without even considering it. edit: Rating me dumb just proves that swastika means something else (less) for those who only read about it in books. Next thing you gonna say it's ok to walk around in KKK robes. I mean it's just a sheet why would anyone get angry about it.
BRB,writing that on the front cover of my math book + a bonus swastika. The guy who is going to get the book next years is going to have fun....MWAHAHHA. Edit : Wait, I'm being racist, hurr. Whatever.
