Need to restring my Fender Telecaster, what are your opinions on different string brands? Which brands are the best etc, probably looking for some 9-42's but willing to try some higher gauge strings.

String up with .10s man it feels much better and you get a chunkier sound. You could also use Ernie ball Hybrids .10 to .052.

As in I can just take my current 9-42's off and install 10-52's?
Ernie Ball strings feel good man

Have a screw driver and an allen wrench on hand and you'd be fine.

There isn't really a best brand of strings out there. There are duds out there but EB strings are generally pretty well regarded, as are D'Addarios (my favoured brand) and Elixir strings (though lots of people argue they don't sound as great, they certainly do last longer and sound better than other strings after a while).
what are some good scales i should learn?
what are some good scales i should learn?
Penatonic Minor in all boxes, regular Minor, Harmonic Minor, Major, Pentatonic Major [editline]05:05PM[/editline] Maybe diminished for riffing
Which mesa do you think? And Vader is a cab.
Pretty sure Vader also makes heads, but the typical head for any kind of metal - be it groove, death, or even just plain 'ol heavy metal - is the Triple Rectifier. It has three channels of gain and a fourth (which is identical to the third) so you can have different settings for rhythm and leads. Should that not be enough gain, I recommend a good tube screamer, but honestly, I can't see how 150 watts of class AB tube isn't enough gain. Also my preferred strings are DR .10's.Even when I get a 7-string, I plan on using DR.10's (and an extra lower string that's thicker than the low E). I don't like how thin all of the 7-string sets are.
Penatonic Minor in all boxes, regular Minor, Harmonic Minor, Major, Pentatonic Major [editline]05:05PM[/editline] Maybe diminished for riffing
I'll agree with that. Although you really don't need to learn the pentatonic scales if you learn the scales they are derived from. The minor scale is the same as the pentatonic minor except with a minor 2nd and a minor 6th. It is very good to learn some music theory and learn what scales are, how they are used, what gives them certain tonalities. Learn about making chords and intervals before learning about modes.
I agree, but I still don't care when it happens because my bass guitar was only €170,- and it gives the bass some character when it happens on accident (imo).
Just be careful with your bass, it's an instrument that needs love and gives performance in return. (Same applies for guitars)
My birthday is coming up soon and I'd like a new guitar. Budget is around 1000 USD. Any ideas? :v:
I just ordered a ESP LTD Deluxe H-1001fm in red. Schecter didn't ship to Canada on a bunch of different music stores, and Canada guitars are increased in priced by like $300, so I got this. I am more comfortable with ESP anyways. [editline]11:38AM[/editline] Also for strings, I usually use Elixir, if you feel like shelling out like $5 extra. They last a hell of a long time with good tone.

I just like 'em because I can buy a super light set and a single bass 55 and I've got my seven taken care of, EB doesn't have a set in the right gauges.

I take Ernie Ball when they aren't available. I don't know I just prefer them because they are cheap and last me a good 2-3 weeks.

My DR's last me a few months before they get all grimy and bland, which is when I replace them.
I change my strings whenever I look in a spare pack I've got and notice that my current strings are the wrong colour.
I change my strings whenever I look in a spare pack I've got and notice that my current strings are the wrong colour.
That's when it's really necessary. I once stubbornly kept the same strings on for nearly 6 months and dear lord were they grimy and gross. Now I try to clean my guitar once a month - strings included - and whenever I snap a string, or when my strings just don't feel right, I change the whole set.
It didn't sound too bad at the time, but after changing there was a huge difference. They were some Martin Extra Light Acoustic strings, wouldn't recommend them they don't sound good but for £3 I cannot complain.
I change my strings whenever I look in a spare pack I've got and notice that my current strings are the wrong colour.
Reminds me, I should probably change my seven again. I still haven't actually swapped the bass string that came on it, just the top six. It's starting to look...splotchy brown. Actually now I'm tempted to restring it with some of these useless fucking GHS heavyweights and a spare EB bass string just to see how it feels, but I really don't want to dick with the FR right now.
Why use a bass string when you could just order a single guitar string for considerably less?
That's it? How often do you play?! My DR's last me a few months before they get all grimy and bland, which is when I replace them.
I'm practicing nearly 2-3 hours non stop daily then you could add one or 2 more hours just fiddling around. Then I have constant band practice and the strings die out very fast.
Alright that makes alot more sense but I'd still think you'd get a month out of them.
I don't know I see that you're one of those bazillion notes a minute men, but I have very strong solos that people consider to be soulful. I bend alot, I'm playing chunky rhythms, I'm also on a jazz course here in Iceland.
That's it? How often do you play?! My DR's last me a few months before they get all grimy and bland, which is when I replace them.
Guitar strings in general should be replaced every month or so to keep them at their peak. Having the same strings on your guitar for months is far too long (although I must admit, I don't restring that often because I'm poor. I just restring when I have to perform or when I record). D'Addarios do generally have a short lifespan though, but I really like sound and feel of the gauges on their 10 sets, especially for 7 strings as they offer a decent sized low B string unlike EB.
Why use a bass string when you could just order a single guitar string for considerably less?
I mean spare as in I literally have guitar and bass strings just laying around being useless piles of shit. It is like, please, go get a job, you lazy douchefucking strings. Same for the pedals. I don't use these pedals. Who left me these pedals? Why will no one fess up to leaving me these shitty pedals? But those you can just hock to Guitar Center. Spare strings just hang out and eat cheetos.
sup guitar thread, haven't been in here in a while. Just posting to say that I just successfully sold my Jackson SL2H, the original one I bought ages ago, for £780 cash. Glad to finally get rid of that thing but also sad to see it go, the purchase guitar was a real event for me, in guitar playing and in life in general. I must say I loved the smell of that guitar, smelt like a new car mixed with old furniture.
