It's short scale. (Well, actually that isn't a good reason, buy it if the regular 34 inches are too much for you.) It's completely hollow, so it breaks easily and is prone to feedback. It's unbalanced, due to the hollownes of the body it has extreme neckdive. There's virtually no thumb rest available. It sounds crap. Seriously, I still don't know how Paul Mccartney got his bass to sound like that.
Some people actually like hollow basses, the only two reasons you gave were "There's virtually no thumb rest available." and "It sounds crap", but you don't explain really why, what's your experience with the sound of it? How did you test it?
Electronic song on guitar. Was fun. Gonna do Bass version later.
Some people actually like hollow basses,
I know that people like hollow basses. I like them myself. But with a body that small, the hollow body sound is absent. Plus what I mentioned before, neckdive.
the only two reasons you gave were "There's virtually no thumb rest available."
The pick-ups are either too far away from each other to get a good clear tone out of it. It's either muddy or treble-ish.
and
Hmm?
"It sounds crap", but you don't explain really why, what's your experience with the sound of it? How did you test it?
I tested it like I test every bass. Play it unplugged and feel the vibrations. If it sounds good like that, I go on with playing it plugged in.

Play using floating thumb technique, then you are not bound to pickup positions.

Does anyone here have any experience with Michael Kelly Guitars yet? Looks like they're quite good for the money, so I'm thinking of buying a les paul copy before prices rise.
I had a dream last night that I found a light blue telecaster at a thrift store for $30. I bought it and beat up a couple muggers with it. So now it's my dream guitar.
That's an Esquire :buddy: [editline]08:58PM[/editline]
Are orange amps good for metal sort of tones? because it looks like it's strictly classic rock kind of stuff yeah I don't think I'd ever buy a vox I've heard a lot about blackstar amps, are they any good?
1. Orange amps either have an incredible metal tone (for example the Rockerverb) or they have a massive amount of headroom (Thunderverb) meaning they work very well with pedals, so a good dirt pedal will make most Orange's sound unbelievable. Their cabs are ridiculously good too, the bass is incredibly tight since they use very thick ply. 2. Vox's are great amps. Some of the best clean and lightly overdriven amps there is. End of. 3. Blackstar's are also awesome. I'm saving for a Series One 200 head. Very versatile and great tone with good features for a great price
Mah gear: Nothing too fancy. But I get around. :banjo:
I demand hella banjo shredding. Right now.
Play using floating thumb technique
Oh, shit, I completely forgot to try this. Feels good.
I've made something that everyone here will enjoy, the recording process was like the other piece "deep melody" that I posted some pages back, but this song just sounds better (It's a 5 layer guitar only song with lots of harmony in it, sad type) Reverse : http://soundcloud.com/dekay-snug/reverse Made that in an hour, no metronom just pure guitar and pure feelings
That bass is surely a short scale one. And for the love of fuck CLEAN THE HEADSTOCK OF YOUR JACKSON IT'S SO DUSTY :froggonk:
you're dusty
I kind of want a banjo
My dad plays banjo, here's a video of him playing whiskey before breakfast: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/286964/WBB.mp4
^Holy shit.

Maybe I'll consider an Orange combo then

If you can find one, I LOVE my Crate GTD 120.
Why the Hell does a song I don't like get the most downloads? To clarify, it's a song I made, but it's gotten downloaded the most out of all the other songs, and personally I don't like and it just threw it on because it was some of my old work.
It's worth a try, I'd just like some more effects or a new amp I kind of want a new amp and then I'll buy some pedals I reckon
Well I can attest for the GTD120's tonal versatility - from a nice classic rock clean, right up to a Pantera level of distortion (or at least pretty damn close), and pretty much anything in between. Only effect pedal I have for it right now is a Crybaby 95Q, but that's a whole different level right there (discussing pedals as opposed to amps).
How much for that washburn banjo?
It was something like $230. But I wouldn't recommend it. There are better budget banjos available.

I love the fact that you can switch from 30 all the way down to 7 watts. You can really get that hot tube sound at lower volumes with this. I wish it had a bit more gain though, but that's just me. Nothing a boost pedal can't fix.

I've only found one that I truly like the versatility of gain/clean in. The Mesa Roadster. Granted I'm pretty sure your Dual Terror is a head/cab, but still, I have similar problems. Is it really too much to ask to have at least decent cleans on the low end, and high gain on the other? Not even mind-numbing distortion. Not Pantera-and-beyond distortion. Just high gain.
After half a year of playing guitar I´m now thinking about buying a bass, but I don´t really know shit about bass guitars. So, what would be a good versatile bass + amp for rougly 600€ total? I´ve been sort of looking at the Epi Thunderbird IV. Is that any good? Also, how important is music theory really in learning guitar (and bass guitar? I haven´t really bothered learning much of it so that playing wouldn´t feel like studying. I don´t want to take any lessons either for the same reason. I´ve been playing for well over a hour every day and I wouldn´t want to lose my interest. My friend who started playing roughly the same time as I did says you can´t play shit without knowing a whole lot of music theory, so part of me would want to ditch theory all together just to show him. An other friend of mine writes his own music after playing for 2-3 years and he hasn´t really studied theory at all. So should I start learning a bit of music theory? If so, where should I start? Lots of questions...
Can't go wrong with a P bass. Very common, so they're infinitely customisable, they can be used in any genre as well. Might wanna go for a Ibanez or something though. Example, you can get: http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/15424-ibanez-btb200mkf.html http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/43222-fender-rumble-75-v2-bass-amp.html#sterling_uk http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/43776-dolphin-9m-30ft-guitar-instrument-cable.html http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/30736-guitar-tech-nylon-strap-black-.html all for 548.68€
how important is music theory really in learning guitar (and bass guitar?
It's one of those things where you could get by without ever learning it and just using your ears, BUT, once you start learning it you start to realise just how useful it is and can help you come up with something totally out of the box that you have never done otherwise. Take walking bass lines for example, I don't know how I could even do it without knowing even simple music theory.

Really man the Orange has decent everything. Some people think the cleans are very thin, I personally think they have fine cleans, but I'm using an Orange cab so the low end is really boosted by that. The reason I want a teeny bit higher gain is because I enjoy playing Meshuggah stuff and djent aswell, but I'm more for progressive/sludge metal.

Love its versatility though. I'm looking for something to get a Lamb of God tone out of out of the box at maximum, and a nice airy clean that's very even. Doesn't have to be a Vox-style pristine bit of perfection, because then the distortion would be quite lacking. Just something to play clean parts on without too much trouble or any one range dominating the others.
