I just bought new strings, D'addario .10 - .46 3 pack, they came with an extra pack of these "new" EXP coated nickel plated steel strings. They look pretty damn fancy, still deciding what guitar I should put them on.
Also, fuck yea extra high e string.
gotta love that new string feeling
kind of like new car smell or the taste in your mouth after going to the dentist
Forgot to say I got 1mm dunlop picks, with a motherfucking GRIP for those sweat youself dry gigs.
That I wouldnt know about
I don't understand how people can summon the balls to play shows
Metalheads like me rely on my hair to hide my face, and rely on the frontman to build up the crowd so you can headbang without looking like a retard.
Playing shows isn't the problem for me, it's getting off my arse and forming a band then getting booked to play gigs.

Reminded I still need to change mine.
Playing shows is easy, when you get out there the stage is yours, you own that place and if the audience doesn't like it then fuck them! However actually getting your shit together and booking them is entirely different, I've been meaning to book my bands first real gig for a few months now, but I can never get round to it.

Yeah I felt like an ass last time I went to a show and was headbanging
but everyone was doing it so it was cool

The idea of playing in a band terrifies me as well
Its always the atmosphere. At a pub where everyone was socialising and you can't start them up, you just gotta stand there with your badass stance and play like a bad ass. If everyone is bashing each other and headbanging, you headbang aswell. That's what long hair is for. You may look like an ass, but I always laugh at whoever is headbanging with a bald head unless they have some awesome facial hair (ie Kerry King). I like the different styles of headbanging aswell, I tend to just drop my head and spring it back up, it looks awesome with long hair. The windmill is cool too, but I can't play like that. I can headbang as I do while still looking at the guitar, and you can contentrate on that while the guitar plays itself, it's retarded, but cool.
By the way these D'addario strings are ORGASMIC.
I just headbang, there isn't really a formula

I agree with this post
Yeah I try to avoid fucking my neck up.

You can't do that unless you're Corpsegrinder.
On the subject of live shows:
Be prepared. Be prepared for EVERYTHING to break, fall apart and just plain not work (Including band members). A tool kit, Soldering Iron, Enough picks to open a shop (Even if it isn't you who uses them), Spare fuses, A spare of every lead you have, Torch, Pain killers, Pens, Gaffa tape... Kitchen sink. Seriously.
Playing a show is nothing once you have done it a few times.
I wasn't going to post this, but for any people just starting to gig, it must be said.
Just got some cactus picks. It's like they are stuck to my fingers when I play with them.
Get a micstand with pickholders. Thats the reason I offered to do backing vocals. I'm not even that bad, nor afraid to sing live, i just cant play and sing together. Plus singing and playing lead is just being a dick to the rhythm guitarist.
And all I bring live is all my guitars, a string set, an extra lead and ofcourse extra picks. The one with grips are great because you can loosen up when sweeping or playing open chords without dropping it. I always start playing with my JS1 incase something fucks it up or the crowd throws something. It's a good camo for those expensive guitars, and its not bad enough for the crowd to pick you up on it.

that's never usually the case here, especially on eistnaflug (metal festival in iceland) due to the fact that we are all so nice to eachother we let everyone use our amps and cabs.
Last year there was the option to have your own amp head, or use a Marshal JCM800 with 2 4x12 cabs for each guitarist.
Although yes. ALWAYS BE PREPARED.
Some concerts have the amps there in which case you bring guitars and maybe pedals.
Fuck meshuggah :colbert:
Never had problems learning a song on a guitar (playing for 5 years now) and now I got into meshuggah's 2002 album, thought myself "yea gonna learn this shit" then I tried straws pulled at random with perfect tab and I am having a jesusfucking hard time learning those weird ass rhytm's and now I am pissed because I could not learn the whole song in one run! HNNNG! Oh well, never thought that I encounter an hard for me to play song again... well I am wrong!

tl;dr, My hair is long and I head bang, it looks cool, my hair, my hair, my hair.
Just be yourself, short hair, long hair, who gives a shit?
I'm currently learning guitar. So, does anyone have any songs that will be fun but easy for beginners? To be honest, I'm thinking about giving up, but I really don't want to disappoint the people that know I am learning. Also, just give me guitar tips in general, please.

Yeah those are pretty tricky at first, but it gets easier after a while.

Try learning Pravus and Perpetual Black Second. I did it when I was in the process of stopping mouth tobacco (clean for 6 months now!). I almost broke my guitar...

It would help to know what type of music you listen to in order to provide some fun songs, but definitely don't give up. Guitar is a great thing to mess around with and occupy your free time, probably one of, if not the, best hobby out there.
Ugh. I need to learn a fair few things to be able to do this cover project the band I'm in has decided to do. We're playing thrash, earlier Metallica, Megadeth and such. Anyone got suggestions for what we can play? I'm not the most advanced bassist yet so stuff with a simpler bassline would be cool.
