also, whoever said my favourite picks aren't on the Dunlop site...
When you're playing a gig, you have GOT to go all out and put these badboys on:
[img_thumb]http://cdn2.ioffer.com/img/item/105/137/825/13qT.jpg[/img_thumb]
These guys know how to make god damn guitar strings. It's like playing on an amazing awesome of awesomeness.
They cost so much though :smith:
The .12-.52 models are my favourites.

I dislike Ernie ball bass strings. I am lucky if I get 2 gigs out of them before they go dead. - Used to swear by them but I am a complete elixir convert now. Get 10s of gigs per set. Providing you don't snap one :v:
I agree, Completely. - Even if they do run about £39-50 for a 4 string set for bass.
You pay more, but they're so worth it in the long run.
I wouldn't mind trying D'Addario strings. What ones are recommended for bass?
Anyone? I wouldn't mind trying them out either
Dunlop 1mm, they're black and grippy.
Guys, I need some tabs/exercises to increase finger strength and speed
Guys, I need some tabs/exercises to increase finger strength and speed
I know Michael Angelo Batio (yes, that ugly guy) has made a dvd just for that. I have tried it some myself. Really good stuff. It's called "Speed Kills".
It's funny how awesome solo neo-classical guitarists like MAB and Rob Marcello have been in Glam Metal Bands...
Also, ofcourse he's ugly, I don't know a metal guitar player that isn't.
I'm using Rotosound myself.
They work like a charm.
Rotosound make lovely acoustic strings.
It's either Dunlop or Ernie Ball for the elctric though
D'addarios are fucking great.
I have Dean Markley strings. :colbert:
Me too
Fuck me 7string is awesome, not just for the really low powerchord but for other things as well
I wrote a little sequence that's very moody and soulful(if I may say so myself :v:) that uses it, and it's worth the extra money just for that
In fact just the added solo possibilities makes it worth it
And yeah, the djenting without having to tune down more than dropping the B string is a nice bonus
I remember somebody was trying to convince me to buy a 7 string for a first guitar
was never going to happen
I sort of wish I had
Then I wouldn't have my dreadful thumb technique :v:
I bought some Elixirs a while ago, and while I loved them at first, I'm now so tired of them, they're just so bright!
I sort of wish I had

do you use your thumb as a pick?
do you use your thumb as a pick?
No I fret with it
That's fucked, how the hell do you even manage that?
also cbf practising today, I'm going to go play halo :)
Big hands
I can reach the A string with my thumb on a 6 string :v:
thats fucking weird
also boom my guitar teacher is best mates with the local guitar shop owner and can probably order an iceman for me and i could get it cheaper as well :v:

It's actually not that bad. I think it's a good technique to be able to use, but it shouldn't always be used. For example, Hendrix used it a lot to play chords like this, otherwise practically impossible:
---3---
---1---
-------
---3---
-------
---1---
Sure, you could barre that, but it would be difficult to slide it around and get it to sound articulate.
I used my thumb back when I played bass.
Big hands

I can reach the D string :smug:
I can reach the B string with my thumb.
:colbert:
Can do a barré with my thumb if I place my hand right, and yes, I can position my other fingers that way too.
Okay I lose
Anyway, I developed a technique where my thumb is wrapped around the neck at all times, and that bad for some reason

Thanks mate

There are other companies. Most notably DR and Elixir.
Love the sound of DR Lo-Riders. Might get a set again one day, Coated.
GHS make nice strings too.
So my friend let me borrow his 4 string bass, what are the first things I should learn?

Fingerstyle, it's quite useful for funky songs.
