I'd be interested if were were doing improvised lead over a backing track. It'd add to the variety.
I suppose we would have to decide on whatever the subject would be for each week
ie x song cover, x lick, x number of improvised bars in x style etc
I'm down for anything really
I'd watch, but I'm not capable of recording any of the stuff you guys would want to play.
I play everything.
how about bollywood film scores
eh?
yeah I thought not
you don't play everything
Why don't we just do song covers, that would be a lot simpler. I doubt many people here know the seven modes of the diatonic major scale and added-note scales. Even though it is a simple thing to learn.

I definitely don't. I am not going to lie, I don't know much musical theory, I know a couple main scales and can name my keys and all that, but I've only focused on just simply playing for the past 2 years. I am not very good at improv, but I am one of the best rhythm players my guitar teacher knows :buddy:
well when I said 'x style' I meant like 'blues' or 'metal' or 'reggae'
no need to be technically accurate if it sounds good

You don't even know what modes are to improvise. Anyone with a somewhat good ear will automatically gravitate towards the chord tones. You really don't even need music theory at all to improvise to common progressions.
yeah like I said
you don't need to know what you're doing to sound good
take mastodon for example
I was thinking of starting a little weekly competition or something where we'd post things like 'betcha can't play this' or full song covers
something like songfight but more relaxed
a little competition never hurt anyone especially if you're looking for some extra motivation to practice
though I don't know how many of you guys would be interested in this
Sounds nice!
I don't know what would come of the "Betcha can't play this" competition, because there's only a few who can really shred here.
I think the song covers might be better, because anyone can pull them off with decency at least.
I'm going to go play guitar instead of talking about it
It would be kind of cool to play along with others. We could critique each others playing too if it was cover songs and hopefully become better players because of it.

I play everything thrown at me, so fuck you sir.
I play everything thrown at me, so fuck you sir.
Me too. Atleast I do my best at it.
I've struggled with weird jazz progressions.
I've struggled with weird jazz progressions.
They aren't easy at all. The best you can do is just practice with a metronome like any other thing you'd practice. It also helps to know the modes and what not. It really helps me with progressions to know what scale it's based off of, or if I'm switching from one scale to another.
So i have this standard SSS strat, and i wanted to change the bridge pickup to a humbucker. well said and done, the problem now is, that the humbucker produces a really low sound, can't hear it for shit,
So my question is
What fucking wire did i put wrong. OR what is wrong? The humbucker works. that i know
Still no one who can help me?

How I play?
:tinfoil:
It would be kind of cool to play along with others. We could critique each others playing too if it was cover songs and hopefully become better players because of it.
yeah
the 'become better players because of it' is the main idea
and pepin, some of us may end up having to do some improvisation if the song we cover has a part that we just can't get down :v:
so does anybody have any suggestions for songs
I'd love to do this competition thing if I had anything to record with
I'd be up for doing some recording and all that sort of thing. Once I can figure out how Logic works :byodood:
ALso, I think I'm gonna be getting one of these in the coming months :buddy:

It's not that hard once you get the hang of it. You'll pick it up in no time.
Also nice guitar!
Damn, I need to quit playing so much bass. Had it for 2 weeks and Im already learning stuff like Opeth on it, kinda proud of myself. Shame my drum kits going to be collecting dust :(. Also, id trade my left nut for a Warwick

Sweet ride. I love P90s.

Don't ever force yourself to do something.
I myself have a bass that I play every now and again, but I love my guitars too much to give it up. Don't give up your drums, but dont give up your bass either. Being multi instrumental REALLY has it's perks man and it will only make you a better musician.

I wouldnt give up on bass, its way too much fun. I just feel bad that I dont have as much fun on MY drum kit than I do on my friends bass

I don't think that the competition would be anything too serious, I imagine you could just record straight into audacity from a mic that was good enough and receive crit's like that.
To be honest it'll be good for me to have something which will kind of force me to get my ass in gear with Logic. I've had it for months and have barely done anything :saddowns:
