The guitar is worth $200 alone, so if you think you want it, go for it. That said, I didn't know they made guitars out of plastic wood. Was kinda expecting it to be plywood when I read the reviews...agathis is just odd.
i think my guitar is made out of agathis [editline]4th November 2010[/editline] in fact it is
My pride and joy.
Don't really need a $400 six string for my kinda first bass. Thinking about this one http://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier-Affinity-5-String-Jazz-Bass-V-104482054-i1173424.gc Ive only heard nice things about it. Anyone have any opinions?

I've decided no matter what my next guitar is going to be an RGD2127Z [editline]4th November 2010[/editline] if only there was a hardtail model
I've decided no matter what my next guitar is going to be an RGD2127Z [editline]4th November 2010[/editline] if only there was a hardtail model
I would have bought that seven string if it was out when I bought my RG prestige 7-string. Even though I don't like the band Emmure too much (too simplistic at times), I like their tone and that fact that their guitarist uses this backs up how heavy that guitar can be with a good set of pedals.
Could someone recommend me a good but cheaper acoustic? I'm starting out, and I think that Acoustic would be easier than Classical or Electric.
It might be, it will differ from person to person. You should learn what you want to learn though, learning acoustic first when really you want to play electric will probably take longer.
I'm really stricken, I like the sound of Classical with Nylon strings, but I want to be able to play the heavier things such as the 1942 theme also.

You need to watch out for your pick attack, the way you pluck the strings, how you mute or dampen them. There are so many elements you need to be aware of to make your sound sparkle. Once you got them down, it'll be natural.

And things such as proper form and technique are exceedingly important to classical guitar and less so for the others. Classical is a more demanding instrument to learn overall in my opinion. The standard of technique is much higher overall

Acoustic, is far more subtle, just because theres no processing or amp doesn't make it any easier. For one the action is usually different and requires more focus and finger strength, I could go on. I believe it's better to start on one of those then graduate to an electric, it makes it much easier.

I find it much easier not to make fucked up noises I hear on acoustic than on electric. Maybe it's just because I'm a high gain metalhead I don't know. It's also a matter of opinion.
A question for fellow shredders, is there any good fretboard mastery sites out there? I'm pretty much learning my scales and modes out of a book from the local store with just hardcore memorization, but I was hoping to find some places that can push me ahead faster.
http://www.musictheory.net/
That could not have a more straight forward domain name. Thank you anyway!
Anyhow, back onto the topic at hand...
I'm really stricken, I like the sound of Classical with Nylon strings, but I want to be able to play the heavier things such as the 1942 theme also.
I mean theres no noise to hide behind, it's all you. And as we both know clean can sound just as fucked up as distortion out the ass can :P
Anyhow, back onto the topic at hand...
Get a classical guitar if you want to play finger based arrangements. Get an acoustic guitar if you want to play strum based arrangements. You can play just as dark on a classical as you can on an acoustic btw. I don't understand what you mean with the Battlefield Theme even (there's no guitar in it). Are you split between an acoustic and an electric guitar? In that case I would recommend getting an electric. They're just easier to get started with.
I started with an acoustic and looking back now I wouldn't have it any other way [editline]5th November 2010[/editline] a real trial by fire for your fretting hand

Now I can play some chords on the acoustic, and I was wondering if I could play just as easily on an electric.
Yes you can.
Well that's good to know. Now I just need to know what guitar to start with, that's affordable.

They're somewhat rare, but I see them go up for sale on sevenstring.org every month or so. They usually go for around $600, and with a new bridge you're essentially looking at a prestige-quality Ibby.

Hell, trying to practice a cover I'll be doing soon and this MAB DVD, I'm seeing every little mistake of mine coming through loud and clear on my new GR4 lead presets. That makes it even more painful, because wrong noises + digital amp head = HAAAAaaaaa aaaaa a aaa squeeka squeeka hiss
I don't know about that either, At high volumes, I find distortion to mask a lot more then straight up clean does. You can lay out a big chunky muddy thump and it's practically impossible to identify any more about it than its pitch. Similarly, you can be Jack White and have everything so clouded it sounds like you very well may have just amped a cordless drill.
I started with an acoustic and looking back now I wouldn't have it any other way [editline]5th November 2010[/editline] a real trial by fire for your fretting hand
I don't even understand how you play the top of the fretboard on acoustic anymore. I play my electric, and, ooh, there's a big ole' cut there so I can actually reach that shit. They I grab my acoustic and woah hey what the fuck is all this fucking wood doing here.
