Anyone have any experience with building their own guitar? I've been wanting to do this for a while, but would probably have to order a kit with the wood already cut since I don't have the tools to do it at home. Does anyone know somewhere where you can buy already cut kits but without the stock pickups/bridge etc. which are usually crap? edit: Forget to mention I can find plenty of strat/tele shaped bodies and necks, but can't find many of different shapes, like V's.
I chose it over the stilleto and dual rectifier. I really love playing metal, but mesa is incredibly tight. The low end on the Orange Dual Terror is much wider and the mid range really gets to you. The sound from it is so incredibly warm aswell. Price was also kept in mind. The sound of the orange is really sludgey for me and that's what my band plays. Sludge Metal. The cleans could use a proper 3 band EQ. The portability of the Dual Terror is amazing aswell. I have an Orange PPC112 closed back cab and that's enough to carry around Everywhere I need to go. I don't need a massive head that would be way to loud for my bedroom and I may drop due to my clumsiness. The EL84's really attracted me to the amp aswell. The tubes get incredibly hot and you can switch from 7, 15 and 30 watts so I can always get them hot even at bedroom levels. Over all the Orange Dual Terror had a lot more perks over a Mesa for my situation. I would LOVE to own a Mesa/Boogie 5:50 combo though.
I haven't found anywhere that offers Orange amps for sampling but I've only ever heard good things about them. Frankly if I'm getting a Mesa I want a Triple Rec. The Dual isn't quite as powerful (literally, it has less gain I feel, even though the Triple Rec was designed from the Dual), and I did not like the Mark V I played at all. The 5:50's cool but again I do not feel it has enough gain.
My bass isn't recording properly. I use the line out straight to my laptop's mic input (probably wrong but oh well), and all I get is shitloads of distortion or quiet, flat tones, I've tried changing the amp volume, volume on the bass, mic volume, combinations. Nothing. halp
Jesus christ man you need a lot of gain then.
I play anything ranging from Pink Floyd, to progressive death metal. And I'm looking for an amp that can provide that without a distortion pedal. And from the looks of things, the Triple Rec is exactly that. Retarded amount of gain on the high end, with a full-on lead AND rhythm channel, and Mesa's typically good cleans for those times I don't want mind-numbing distortion.

It feels like Mesa is just you know... Mesa. Orange appeals so much to me because of the natural sound if you get what I mean. That's just my opinion though :v:
g string on my bass came untied at the top of the neck is this easy to fix?
What do you use to record? As in, what software
Audacity. I'm cheap.

There is a small chance that there is something else to it, but that's really hard to determine over the internet so I'll just give you some steps. 1. Hook everything up. Verify everything is done right. 2. Plug in some headphones to the line out, check to see if there is distortion and if you can get a nice sound to it. If you can't, something is up with your amp. 3. Turn the amp volume to 0. 4. Open up audacity. Set your mic as the recording interface. Record. 5. Play the bass and gradually increase the volume on the amp until the amplitude is decent (you don't want to be at risk of clipping). 6. Listen to it and see what it sounds like, if you did everything correctly it will sound decent. Make sure that you aren't boosting the mic volume by 20db. Check and make sure of this because it may be your issue. If it for some reason still doesn't work, try the same process with another computer. If it works on that computer, then you know that it's something to do with your laptop. [editline]9th November 2010[/editline] Also, with my computer I've found there is a big issue with recording bass through a mic port. There is a lot of noise leakage, from my computer, and this is not at all the case with my guitar. You could actually hear my hard drive spin sometimes. The reason for this may perhaps be that the guitar masks a lot of those sounds since it is more in that frequency range, but a bass is much lower and doesn't cover nearly the same range, so it doesn't mask as much. Now I've got a nice recording interface, so I don't have to worry about all that crap. I'll sort it out tomorrow (if Black Ops hasn't arrived, if it has I'll be playing that the whole night), but thanks.
g string on my bass came untied at the top of the neck is this easy to fix?
bump
Probably? I think it depends on how cocked up the top of the string is. Just, you know, pull it lengthwise, run it through the tuner and wind it again, and see how it sounds.
I'll sort it out tomorrow (if Black Ops hasn't arrived, if it has I'll be playing that the whole night), but thanks.
You should considering getting an interface or at least something like this http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GuitarLink/ Recording straight into a low end soundcard is always a little sketchy.
g string on my bass came untied at the top of the neck is this easy to fix?
Untied as in it's completely loose and only attached to one end of the bass? Yes, it's easy to fix! Just stuff the string in the holder and semi-tie it. Then tune it up. The tension of the string will hold it firmly in place.

There really is a silly amount of gain on offer with both of those, and truth be told once you wind it past 7 you're just adding more noise and losing definition. The Mark V I tried was marvellous, the gain channel was excellent, mid gain was alright and the clean was superb. Shame they're a retarded amount of money anywhere but the States, cos I do love me some BTBAM tone. Oh well, we get Orange's, Engl's, Diezel's and Blackstar's :v:

Though I hear they're better for metal than blues now? If that's true than I might go with a fender vibrolux or blues deville 4x10

I like being able to lay down bitchin' riffs by improvising now Makes me feel like a boss
I really don't have much interest in learning songs. I like improvising and coming up with songs so much more.
Yeah me too High five that shit
Okay, I just learned Dread and The Fugitive (megadeth) mind solo. It's not a hard solo, but it is one of my favourites.
that's all that matters
Reasking since noone awnsered. Is there a cable I can plug into my headphone output of my BLackstar amp so I can record on my computer?

Find a cable that has this on the other end (the one on the right) and this on the other end
What is the best way of learning to improvise and write riffs? Would the basis lie in learning the major and minor scales as well as all the notes on the guitar?
What is the best way of learning to improvise and write riffs? Hurdy Gurdy. I fucking want one
